Deuteronomy 5
1 And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them: Hear, O Israel, the statutes and the ordinances which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and observe to do them.
Moïse appela tout Israël, et leur dit: « Écoutez, Israël, les lois et les ordonnances que je prononce aujourd'hui à vos oreilles, afin que vous les appreniez et que vous ayez soin de les mettre en pratique. »
2 The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb.
Yahvé, notre Dieu, a fait alliance avec nous à Horeb.
3 The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.
Yahvé n'a pas fait cette alliance avec nos pères, mais avec nous, même nous, qui sommes tous ici, vivants, aujourd'hui.
4 The LORD spoke with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire —
Yahvé vous a parlé face à face sur la montagne, au milieu du feu,
5 I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to declare unto you the word of the LORD; for ye were afraid because of the fire, and went not up into the mount — saying:
(je me tenais alors entre Yahvé et vous, pour vous montrer la parole de Yahvé; car vous aviez peur à cause du feu, et vous n'êtes pas montés sur la montagne) en disant,
6 I am the LORD thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
« Je suis Yahvé ton Dieu, qui t'a fait sortir du pays d'Égypte, de la maison de servitude.
7 Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.
« Tu n'auras pas d'autres dieux devant moi.
8 Thou shalt not make unto thee a graven image, even any manner of likeness, of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
« Tu ne te feras pas d'image taillée, ni de représentation de ce qui est dans les cieux en haut, ni de ce qui est sur la terre en bas, ni de ce qui est dans les eaux sous la terre.
9 Thou shalt not bow down unto them, nor serve them; for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the third and upon the fourth generation of them that hate Me,
Tu ne te prosterneras pas devant elles et tu ne les serviras pas, car moi, Yahvé ton Dieu, je suis un Dieu jaloux, qui punit l'iniquité des pères sur les enfants, sur la troisième et la quatrième génération de ceux qui me haïssent
10 and showing mercy unto the thousandth generation of them that love Me and keep My commandments.
et qui fait preuve de bonté envers les milliers de ceux qui m'aiment et qui gardent mes commandements.
11 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain.
« Tu n'abuseras pas du nom de Yahvé ton Dieu, car Yahvé ne laissera pas impuni celui qui abusera de son nom.
12 Observe the sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD thy God commanded thee.
« Observe le jour du sabbat, pour le sanctifier, comme Yahvé ton Dieu te l'a ordonné.
13 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work;
Tu travailleras six jours, et tu feras tout ton ouvrage;
14 but the seventh day is a sabbath unto the LORD thy God, in it thou shalt not do any manner of work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy man-servant and thy maid-servant may rest as well as thou.
mais le septième jour est un sabbat pour l'Éternel, ton Dieu, où tu ne feras aucun ouvrage, ni toi, ni ton fils, ni ta fille, ni ton serviteur, ni ta servante, ni ton bœuf, ni ton âne, ni aucun de tes animaux, ni l'étranger qui est dans tes portes, afin que ton serviteur et ta servante se reposent aussi bien que toi.
15 And thou shalt remember that thou was a servant in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God brought thee out thence by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.
Tu te souviendras que tu as été esclave au pays d'Égypte, et que Yahvé ton Dieu t'en a fait sortir par une main puissante et un bras étendu. C'est pourquoi Yahvé ton Dieu t'a ordonné d'observer le jour du sabbat.
16 Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God commanded thee; that thy days may be long, and that it may go well with thee, upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
« Honore ton père et ta mère, comme Yahvé ton Dieu te l'a ordonné, afin que tes jours se prolongent et que tu sois heureux dans le pays que Yahvé ton Dieu te donne.
17 Thou shalt not murder.
« Tu ne commettras pas de meurtre.
18 Neither shalt thou commit adultery.
« Tu ne commettras pas d'adultère.
19 Neither shalt thou steal.
« Tu ne voleras pas.
20 Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbour.
« Tu ne porteras pas de faux témoignage contre ton prochain.
21 Neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour's wife; neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour's house, his field, or his man-servant, or his maid-servant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour's.
« Tu ne convoiteras pas la femme de ton prochain. Tu ne convoiteras pas non plus la maison de ton prochain, ni son champ, ni son serviteur, ni sa servante, ni son bœuf, ni son âne, ni rien de ce qui appartient à ton prochain. »
22 These words the LORD spoke unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice, and it went on no more. And He wrote them upon two tables of stone, and gave them unto me.
Yahvé adressa ces paroles à toute votre assemblée sur la montagne, du milieu du feu, de la nuée et de l'obscurité, avec une voix forte. Il n'ajouta rien de plus. Il les a écrites sur deux tables de pierre et me les a données.
23 And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, while the mountain did burn with fire, that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders;
Lorsque vous avez entendu la voix au milieu des ténèbres, pendant que la montagne était embrasée, vous vous êtes approchés de moi, tous les chefs de vos tribus et vos anciens,
24 and ye said: 'Behold, the LORD our God hath shown us His glory and His greatness, and we have heard His voice out of the midst of the fire; we have seen this day that God doth speak with man, and he liveth.
et vous avez dit: « Voici que Yahvé, notre Dieu, nous a montré sa gloire et sa grandeur, et nous avons entendu sa voix au milieu du feu. Nous avons vu aujourd'hui que Dieu parle à l'homme et qu'il vit.
25 Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us; if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, then we shall die.
Maintenant donc, pourquoi mourrions-nous? Car ce grand feu va nous consumer. Si nous entendons encore la voix de Yahvé notre Dieu, nous mourrons.
26 For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?
Car qui, de toute chair, a entendu comme nous la voix du Dieu vivant, parlant du milieu du feu, et a vécu?
27 Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God may say; and thou shalt speak unto us all that the LORD our God may speak unto thee; and we will hear it and do it.'
Approchez-vous, et écoutez tout ce que l'Éternel, notre Dieu, dira, et dites-nous tout ce que l'Éternel, notre Dieu, vous dira; nous l'écouterons et nous le ferons. »
28 And the LORD heard the voice of your words, when ye spoke unto me; and the LORD said unto me: 'I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee; they have well said all that they have spoken.
L'Éternel a entendu la voix de tes paroles quand tu m'as parlé, et l'Éternel m'a dit: « J'ai entendu la voix des paroles de ce peuple, qu'il t'a dites. Ils ont bien dit tout ce qu'ils ont dit.
29 Oh that they had such a heart as this alway, to fear Me, and keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!
Oh! s'il y avait en eux un cœur tel qu'ils me craignent et gardent toujours tous mes commandements, afin que tout aille bien pour eux et pour leurs enfants à jamais!
30 Go say to them: Return ye to your tents.
Allez leur dire: « Retournez dans vos tentes ».
31 But as for thee, stand thou here by Me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandment, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it.'
Mais toi, reste ici près de moi, et je te dirai tous les commandements, les lois et les ordonnances que tu leur enseigneras, afin qu'ils les mettent en pratique dans le pays dont je leur donne la possession. »
32 Ye shall observe to do therefore as the LORD your God hath commanded you; ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
Tu feras donc ce que Yahvé ton Dieu t'a ordonné. Tu ne te détourneras ni à droite ni à gauche.
33 Ye shall walk in all the way which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
Tu marcheras dans toute la voie que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'a prescrite, afin que tu vives et que tu sois heureux, et afin que tu prolonges tes jours dans le pays dont tu auras la possession.
