Deuteronomy 25
1 If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, and the judges judge them, by justifying the righteous, and condemning the wicked,
Wenn zwischen Männern ein Hader entsteht, so soll man sie vor Gericht bringen und sie richten, und den Gerechten für gerecht erklären und den Übeltäter verurteilen.
2 then it shall be, if the wicked man deserve to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to the measure of his wickedness, by number.
Und wenn der Übeltäter Schläge verdient hat, soll der Richter ihn niederfallen lassen, und man soll ihm vor seinen Augen die bestimmte Tracht Prügel geben, je nach dem Maß seiner Missetat.
3 Forty stripes he may give him, he shall not exceed; lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should be dishonoured before thine eyes.
Wenn man ihm vierzig Streiche gegeben hat, soll man nicht weiter schlagen, damit er nicht zu viel geschlagen werde, wenn man ihm mehr Streiche gibt, und damit dein Bruder nicht verächtlich gemacht werde in deinen Augen.
4 Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn.
Du sollst dem Ochsen, wenn er drischt, das Maul nicht verbinden.
5 If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not be married abroad unto one not of his kin; her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother unto her.
Wenn Brüder beieinander wohnen und einer von ihnen kinderlos stirbt, so soll das Weib des Verstorbenen nicht einen fremden Mann von auswärts nehmen, sondern ihr Schwager soll zu ihr kommen und sie zum Weibe nehmen und die Schwagerpflicht an ihr vollziehen.
6 And it shall be, that the first-born that she beareth shall succeed in the name of his brother that is dead, that his name be not blotted out of Israel.
Und der erste Sohn, den sie gebiert, soll auf den Namen seines verstorbenen Bruders erzogen werden, damit sein Name nicht aus Israel verschwinde.
7 And if the man like not to take his brother's wife, then his brother's wife shall go up to the gate unto the elders, and say: 'My husband's brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel; he will not perform the duty of a husband's brother unto me.'
Gefällt es aber dem Mann nicht, seines Bruders Weib zu nehmen, so soll seines Bruders Weib hinaufgehen unter das Tor zu den Ältesten und sagen: Mein Schwager weigert sich, seinem Bruder einen Namen in Israel zu erwecken und will mir die Schwagerpflicht nicht leisten.
8 Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him; and if he stand, and say: 'I like not to take her';
Dann sollen die Ältesten der Stadt ihn rufen lassen und mit ihm reden. Wenn er dann dabei bleibt und spricht: Es gefällt mir nicht, sie zu nehmen!
9 then shall his brother's wife draw nigh unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face; and she shall answer and say: 'So shall it be done unto the man that doth not build up his brother's house.'
so soll seines Bruders Weib vor den Ältesten zu ihm treten und ihm seinen Schuh vom Fuße ziehen und ihm ins Angesicht speien und soll anheben und sagen: So soll man jedem Manne tun, der seines Bruders Haus nicht bauen will!
10 And his name shall be called in Israel The house of him that had his shoe loosed.
Und man soll ihn in Israel «das Haus des Barfüßers» nennen.
11 When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets;
Wenn zwei Männer miteinander hadern, und des einen Weib läuft hinzu, um ihren Mann von der Hand dessen, der ihn schlägt, zu erretten, und streckt ihre Hand aus und ergreift ihn bei seiner Scham,
12 then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall have no pity.
so sollst du ihr die Hand abhauen; dein Auge soll ihrer nicht schonen.
13 Thou shalt not have in thy bag diverse weights, a great and a small.
Du sollst in deinem Beutel nicht zweierlei Gewichtsteine haben, große und kleine!
14 Thou shalt not have in thy house diverse measures, a great and a small.
In deinem Hause soll nicht zweierlei Hohlmaß sein, ein großes und ein kleines!
15 A perfect and just weight shalt thou have; a perfect and just measure shalt thou have; that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
Du sollst volles und rechtes Gewicht und volles und rechtes Hohlmaß haben, auf daß du lange lebest in dem Lande, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, gibt.
16 For all that do such things, even all that do unrighteously, are an abomination unto the LORD thy God.
Denn wer solches Unrecht begeht, ist dem HERRN, deinem Gott, ein Greuel.
17 Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way as ye came forth out of Egypt;
Gedenke, was dir Amalek antat auf dem Wege, als ihr aus Ägypten zoget;
18 how he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, all that were enfeebled in thy rear, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not God.
wie er dir auf dem Wege begegnete und deine Nachzügler abschnitt, alle Schwachen, die zurückgeblieben waren, als du müde und matt warst, und wie er Gott nicht fürchtete.
19 Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget.
Wenn dir nun der HERR, dein Gott, Ruhe gegeben hat vor allen deinen Feinden ringsum im Lande, das der HERR, dein Gott, dir als Erbe einzunehmen gibt, so sollst du das Gedächtnis Amaleks unter dem Himmel vertilgen; vergiß es nicht!
