Deuteronomy 13

1 If there arise in the midst of thee a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams — and he give thee a sign or a wonder,

Wenn in deiner Mitte ein Prophet oder einer, der Träume hat, auftritt und dir ein Zeichen oder Wunder ankündigt,

2 and the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spoke unto thee — saying: 'Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them';

und das Zeichen oder Wunder eintrifft, das er dir ankündigte, indem er zugleich aufforderte: Laßt uns anderen Göttern nachfolgen - Göttern, die du nicht kennen gelernt hast - und laßt uns ihnen dienen!

3 thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or unto that dreamer of dreams; for the LORD your God putteth you to proof, to know whether ye do love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

So sollst du auf die Worte jenes Propheten oder jenes Träumers nicht hören; denn Jahwe, euer Gott, stellt euch damit auf die Probe, um zu erfahren, ob ihr Jahwe, euren Gott, von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele lieb habt.

4 After the LORD your God shall ye walk, and Him shall ye fear, and His commandments shall ye keep, and unto His voice shall ye hearken, and Him shall ye serve, and unto Him shall ye cleave.

Jahwe, eurem Gotte, sollt ihr nachfolgen und ihn fürchten, seine Gebote sollt ihr beobachten und auf seine Stimme hören, ihm sollt ihr dienen und ihm anhangen.

5 And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken perversion against the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of bondage, to draw thee aside out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put away the evil from the midst of thee.

Jener Prophet oder Träumer aber soll getötet werden, - denn er hat gegen Jahwe, euren Gott, der euch aus Ägypten weggeführt und dich aus der Sklaverei befreit hat, Auflehnung gepredigt, um dich abwendig zu machen von dem Weg, auf dem du nach dem Befehle Jahwes, deines Gottes, wandeln sollst; und sollst so das Böse aus deiner Mitte hinwegtilgen.

6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, that is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying: 'Let us go and serve other gods,' which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

Wenn dein Bruder, der dieselbe Mutter mit dir hat, oder dein Sohn oder deine Tochter oder das Weib an deinem Busen oder dein Freund, der dir so lieb ist wie dein Leben, dich heimlich verlocken und sprechen sollte: Laß uns doch hingehn und anderen Göttern dienen! - Göttern, die dir und deinen Vätern unbekannt sind,

7 of the gods of the peoples that are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;

von den Göttern der Völker, die rings um euch her wohnen, sei es nun in deiner Nähe oder in weiter Ferne von dir, von einem Ende der Erde bis zum andern -,

8 thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him;

so sollst du ihm nicht willfahren und ihm nicht gehorchen, auch keinen Blick des Mitleids für ihn haben, noch seiner schonen und seine Schuld verheimlichen.

9 but thou shalt surely kill him; thy hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

Vielmehr umbringen sollst du ihn; deine Hand soll sich zuerst gegen ihn erheben, um ihn zu töten, und darnach die Hand des ganzen Volks.

10 And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to draw thee away from the LORD thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

Du sollst ihn zu Tode steinigen, weil er darnach getrachtet hat, dich von Jahwe, deinem Gott, abwendig zu machen, der dich aus Ägypten, wo du Sklave warst, hinweggeführt hat.

11 And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is in the midst of thee.

Und ganz Israel soll es hören und sich fürchten, damit fernerhin niemand etwas so Böses in deiner Mitte thue.

12 If thou shalt hear tell concerning one of thy cities, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to dwell there, saying:

Wenn du etwa hörst, in einer deiner Städte, die dir Jahwe, dein Gott, zur Wohnung giebt,

13 'Certain base fellows are gone out from the midst of thee, and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying: Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known';

seien nichtswürdige Leute aus deiner Mitte aufgetreten und hätten die Bewohner ihrer Stadt abwendig gemacht, indem sie sprachen: Laßt uns doch hingehn und anderen Göttern dienen! - Göttern, die ihr nicht kennt -,

14 then shalt thou inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in the midst of thee;

so stelle genaue Nachforschung und gründliche Untersuchung an, und ergiebt sich dann, daß es sich in der That so verhält, daß solcher Greuel in deiner Mitte verübt worden ist,

15 thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.

so sollst du die Bewohner jener Stadt mit dem Schwerte töten, indem du an ihr und an allem, was in ihr ist, und an ihrem Vieh mit dem Schwerte den Bann vollstreckst.

16 And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the broad place thereof, and shall burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, unto the LORD thy God; and it shall be a heap for ever; it shall not be built again.

Alles in ihr Erbeutete sollst du auf ihren freien Platz zusammentragen und die Stadt und alles in ihr Erbeutete verbrennen als ein Ganzopfer für Jahwe, deinen Gott, und sie soll für immer ein Ruinenhügel bleiben und nie mehr aufgebaut werden.

17 And there shall cleave nought of the devoted thing to thy hand, that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of His anger, and show thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as He hath sworn unto thy fathers;

Nichts von dem mit dem Banne Belegten darf an deiner Hand kleben bleiben, damit Jahwe von seinem heftigen Zorn ablasse und dir Erbarmen beweise, und damit er in seinem Erbarmen dich mehre, wie er deinen Vätern geschworen hat,

18 when thou shalt hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep all His commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the LORD thy God.

wenn du so auf die Stimme Jahwes, deines Gottes, hörst, indem du alle seine Gebote, die ich dir heute gebe, beobachtest und thust, was vor Jahwe, deinem Gotte, recht ist.
