Amos 5
1 Hear ye this word which I take up for a lamentation over you, O house of Israel:
Hört diesen Spruch, den ich als Totenklage über euch anhebe, ihr Israeliten!
2 The virgin of Israel is fallen, she shall no more rise; she is cast down upon her land, there is none to raise her up.
Gefallen ist, nicht kann wieder aufstehen die Jungfrau Israel! Sie ist auf ihr Land niedergeworfen, keiner richtet sie auf!
3 For thus saith the Lord GOD: The city that went forth a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went forth a hundred shall have ten left, of the house of Israel.
Denn so spricht der Herr Jahwe: Die Stadt, die tausend Krieger stellt, wird hundert übrig behalten, und die, die hundert stellt, wird zehn übrig behalten im Reiche Israel.
4 For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel: Seek ye Me, and live;
Denn so spricht Jahwe zum Reiche Israel: Fragt nach mir, damit ihr am Leben bleibt!
5 But seek not Beth-el, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beer-sheba; for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beth-el shall come to nought.
Aber fragt nicht nach Bethel! Gilgal sollt ihr nicht besuchen und nach Beerseba nicht hinüberziehen! Denn Gilgal muß in die Gefangenschaft wandern, und Bethel soll zu nichte werden.
6 Seek the LORD, and live — lest He break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and it devour, and there be none to quench it in Bethel —
Fragt nach Jahwe, damit ihr am Leben bleibt! Sonst wird er wie Feuer den Stamm Joseph überfallen und ihn verzehren, ohne daß ein Löscher für Bethel ersteht, -
7 Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and cast righteousness to the ground;
Sie, die das Recht in Wermut verkehren und gerechte Sache zu Boden werfen,
8 Him that maketh the Pleiades and Orion, and bringeth on the shadow of death in the morning, and darkeneth the day into night; that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth; the LORD is His name;
er, der das Siebengestirn und den Orion geschaffen hat, der tiefe Nacht in Morgen wandelt und den Tag zur Nacht verfinstert, der die Wasser des Meers herbeirief und über die Erdfläche hin sich ergießen ließ: Jahwe ist sein Name!
9 That causeth destruction to flash upon the strong, so that destruction cometh upon the fortress.
Er läßt Verwüstung aufleuchten über Starke und Verwüstung, die über Festungen kommt.
10 They hate him that reproveth in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.
sie hassen den, der im Thore für das Recht eintritt, und verabscheuen den, der die Wahrheit redet.
11 Therefore, because ye trample upon the poor, and take from him exactions of wheat; ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them, ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine thereof.
Darum, weil ihr die Geringen niedertretet und Geschenke an Korn von ihnen nehmt, sollt ihr wohl Häuser aus Quadersteinen bauen, aber nicht darin wohnen, sollt ihr wohl köstliche Weinberge anlegen, aber keinen Wein von ihnen trinken.
12 For I know how manifold are your transgressions, and how mighty are your sins; ye that afflict the just, that take a ransom, and that turn aside the needy in the gate.
Denn ich weiß wohl: zahlreich sind eure Schandthaten und eurer Sünden gar viel! Ihr bedrängt die Unschuldigen, nehmt Bestechung an und beugt das Recht der Dürftigen im Thor.
13 Therefore the prudent doth keep silence in such a time; for it is an evil time.
Darum schweigt der Kluge in solcher Zeit, denn es ist eine böse Zeit.
14 Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live; and so the LORD, the God of hosts, will be with you, as ye say.
Fragt nach dem Guten und nicht nach dem Bösen, damit ihr am Leben bleibt! Dann erst würde Jahwe, der Gott der Heerscharen, mit euch sein, wie ihr gesagt habt.
15 Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that the LORD, the God of hosts, will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.
Haßt das Böse und liebt das Gute; richtet das Recht im Thor auf! Vielleicht wird sich dann Jahwe, der Gott der Heerscharen, des Restes Josephs erbarmen!
16 Therefore thus saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord: Lamentation shall be in all the broad places, and they shall say in all the streets: 'Alas! alas!' and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and proclaim lamentation to such as are skilful of wailing.
Darum spricht Jahwe, der Gott der Heerscharen, der Herr, also: Auf allen Plätzen soll Wehklagen herrschen, und in allen Straßen soll man rufen: o weh! o weh! Die Bauern sollen die Klagekundigen zum Trauern und Wehklagen aufrufen,
17 And in all vineyards shall be lamentation; for I will pass through the midst of thee, saith the LORD.
und in allen Weinbergen soll Wehklagen herrschen, wenn ich mitten durch euch dahinschreiten werde, spricht Jahwe.
18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! Wherefore would ye have the day of the LORD? It is darkness, and not light.
Wehe denen, die sich den Tag Jahwes herbeiwünschen! Was soll euch doch der Tag Jahwes? Er ist ja Finsternis, nicht Licht! -
19 As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; and went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.
wie wenn jemand, der einem Löwen entflieht, von einem Bären gestellt wird und, wenn er endlich nach Hause gelangt ist und sich mit der Hand gegen die Wand lehnt, von einer Schlange gebissen wird.
20 Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? Even very dark, and no brightness in it?
Ja! Finsternis ist der Tag Jahwes und nicht Licht, dunkel und glanzlos!
21 I hate, I despise your feasts, and I will take no delight in your solemn assemblies.
Ich hasse, ich verachte eure Feste und mag nicht riechen eure Festversammlungen.
22 Yea, though ye offer me burnt-offerings and your meal-offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace-offerings of your fat beasts.
Wenn ihr mir Brandopfer und eure Gaben darbringt, so nehme ich's nicht gnädig auf, und wenn ihr mir ein Heilsopfer von euren Mastkälbern herrichtet, so sehe ich nicht hin.
23 Take thou away from Me the noise of thy songs; and let Me not hear the melody of thy psalteries.
Hinweg von mir mit dem Geplärre deiner Lieder; das Rauschen deiner Harfen mag ich nicht hören!
24 But let justice well up as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
Möge vielmehr Recht sprudeln wie Wasser, und Gerechtigkeit wie ein nimmer versiegender Bach!
25 Did ye bring unto Me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?
Brachtet ihr mir etwa in der Steppe vierzig Jahre hindurch Schlachtopfer und Gaben dar, ihr Israeliten?
26 So shall ye take up Siccuth your king and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.
So sollt ihr denn nun den Sikkut, euren König, und den Stern eures Gottes, den Kewan, eure Bilder, die ihr euch gemacht habt, auf den Nacken nehmen,
27 Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith He, whose name is the LORD God of hosts.
und ich will euch bis über Damaskus hinaus in die Verbannung führen, spricht Jahwe - Gott der Heerscharen ist sein Name!
