2 Samuel 1
1 AND IT came to pass after the death of Saul, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in Ziklag;
૧શાઉલના મરણ પછી, દાઉદ અમાલેકીઓની કતલ કરીને પાછો આવ્યો. અને સિકલાગ નગરમાં બે દિવસ રહ્યો.
2 it came even to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes rent, and earth upon his head; and so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and prostrated himself.
૨ત્રીજે દિવસે, છાવણીમાંથી એક માણસ શાઉલ પાસેથી આવ્યો તેનાં વસ્ત્રો ફાટેલાં હતાં, માથા પર ધૂળ હતી. તે દાઉદ પાસે આવ્યો. તેણે દાઉદને સાષ્ટાંગ દંડવત પ્રણામ કર્યા.
3 And David said unto him: 'From whence comest thou?' And he said unto him: 'Out of the camp of Israel am I escaped.'
૩દાઉદે તેને કહ્યું કે, “તું ક્યાંથી આવે છે?” તેણે જવાબ આપ્યો કે, “હું ઇઝરાયલની છાવણીમાંથી નાસી આવ્યો છું.”
4 And David said unto him: 'How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me.' And he answered: 'The people are fled from the battle, and many of the people also are fallen and dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.'
૪દાઉદે તેને પૂછ્યું કે, “કૃપા કરી મને કહે ત્યાં શી બાબતો બની?” તે માણસે ઉત્તર આપ્યો કે, “લોકો લડાઈમાંથી નાસી ગયા છે. ઘણાં લોકો ઘાયલ થયા અને મરણ પામ્યા છે. શાઉલ તથા તેનો દીકરો યોનાથાન પણ મરણ પામ્યા છે.”
5 And David said unto the young man that told him: 'How knowest thou that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?'
૫દાઉદે તે જુવાન માણસને કહ્યું કે, તેં કેવી રીતે જાણ્યું કે શાઉલ તથા તેનો દીકરો યોનાથાન મરણ પામ્યા છે?”
6 And the young man that told him said: 'As I happened by chance upon mount Gilboa, behold, Saul leaned upon his spear; and, lo, the chariots and the horsemen pressed hard upon him.
૬તે જુવાન માણસે કહ્યું કે, “હું અનાયાસે ગિલ્બોઆ પર્વત ઉપર હતો અને ત્યાં શાઉલ પોતાના ભાલા પર ટેકો રાખીને ઊભો હતો. અને રથો તથા સવારો તેની ખૂબ નજીક આવી ગયેલા હતા.
7 And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called unto me. And I answered: Here am I.
૭શાઉલે આસપાસ નજર કરીને મને જોઈને બોલાવ્યો. મેં ઉત્તર આપ્યો કે, ‘હું આ રહ્યો.’”
8 And he said unto me: Who art thou? And I answered him: I am an Amalekite.
૮તેણે મને કહ્યું કે, ‘તું કોણ છે?’ મેં તેને ઉત્તર આપ્યો કે, ‘હું એક અમાલેકી છું.’
9 And he said unto me: Stand, I pray thee, beside me, and slay me, for the agony hath taken hold of me; because my life is just yet in me.
૯તેણે મને કહ્યું કે, ‘કૃપા કરી મારી પડખે ઊભો રહીને મને પૂરેપૂરો મારી નાખ, કેમ કે મને ભારે પીડા થાય છે અને હજી સુધી મારામાં જીવ છે.’
10 So I stood beside him, and slew him, because I was sure that he could not live after that he was fallen; and I took the crown that was upon his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them hither unto my lord.'
૧૦માટે તેની પાસે ઊભા રહીને મેં તેને મારી નાખ્યો, કેમ કે હું જાણતો હતો કે પડી ગયા પછી તે જીવવાનો નથી. તેના માથા પરનો મુગટ તથા તેના હાથ પરના કડાં લઈ લીધાં. તે અહીં તમારી પાસે લાવ્યો છું, મારા માલિક.”
11 Then David took hold on his clothes, and rent them; and likewise all the men that were with him.
૧૧પછી દાઉદે પોતાનાં વસ્ત્રો ફાડ્યા અને તેની સાથેના સઘળાં માણસોએ પણ તેમ જ કર્યું.
12 And they wailed, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.
૧૨તેઓએ શોક કર્યો, રડ્યા અને સાંજ સુધી શાઉલ તથા તેના દીકરા યોનાથાનને માટે, ઈશ્વરના લોકો માટે અને ઇઝરાયલનાં માણસોને માટે ઉપવાસ કર્યો. કેમ કે તેઓ તલવારથી હારી ગયા હતા એટલે માર્યા ગયા.
13 And David said unto the young man that told him: 'Whence art thou?' And he answered: 'I am the son of an Amalekite stranger.'
૧૩દાઉદે તે જુવાન માણસને કહ્યું કે, “તું ક્યાંથી આવે છે?” તેણે જવાબ આપ્યો કે, “હું આ દેશમાં એક પરદેશીનો દીકરો, એટલે અમાલેકી છું.”
14 And David said unto him: 'How wast thou not afraid to put forth thy hand to destroy the LORD'S anointed?'
૧૪દાઉદે તેને કહ્યું કે, “ઈશ્વરના અભિષિક્તને તારા હાથે મારી નાખતાં તને કેમ બીક લાગી નહિ?”
15 And David called one of the young men, and said: 'Go near, and fall upon him.' And he smote him that he died.
૧૫દાઉદે જુવાનોમાંથી એકને બોલાવીને તેને કહ્યું કે, “તેને મારી નાખ.” તેથી તે માણસે તેના પર ત્રાટકીને નીચે ફેંકી દીધો. અને તે અમાલેકી મરણ પામ્યો.
16 And David said unto him: 'Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying: I have slain the LORD'S anointed.'
૧૬પછી દાઉદે તેને કહ્યું કે, “તેનું લોહી તારે માથે. કેમ કે તેને મુખે જ તેની વિરુદ્ધ સાક્ષી આપી હતી. અને કહ્યું કે, “ઈશ્વરના અભિષિક્તને મેં મારી નાખ્યો છે.”
17 And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son,
૧૭પછી દાઉદે શાઉલ તથા તેના દીકરા યોનાથાનને માટે વિલાપગીત ગાયું:
18 and said — To teach the sons of Judah the bow. Behold, it is written in the book of Jashar:
૧૮તેણે લોકોને હુકમ કર્યો કે આ ધનુષ્ય ગીત યહૂદાપુત્રોને શીખવવામાં આવે, જે યાશારના પુસ્તકમાં લખેલું છે.
19 Thy beauty, O Israel, upon thy high places is slain! How are the mighty fallen!
૧૯“હે ઇઝરાયલ, તારું ગૌરવ, તારા પર્વતો પર માર્યું ગયું છે! યોદ્ધાઓ કેવા માર્યા ગયા છે!
20 Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Ashkelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.
૨૦ગાથમાં એ કહેશો નહિ, આશ્કલોનની શેરીઓમાં એ પ્રગટ કરશો નહિ, રખેને પલિસ્તીઓની દીકરીઓ હરખાય, અને બેસુન્નતીઓની દીકરીઓ આનંદ કરે.
21 Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew nor rain upon you, neither fields of choice fruits; for there the shield of the mighty was vilely cast away, the shield of Saul, not anointed with oil.
૨૧ગિલ્બોઆના પર્વતો, તમારા પર ઝાકળ કે વરસાદ ન હોય, કે અર્પણોનાં ખેતરોમાં અનાજ ન હોય, કેમ કે ત્યાં યોદ્ધાઓની ઢાલ ભ્રષ્ટ થઈ છે, શાઉલની ઢાલ હવે જાણે તેલથી અભિષિક્ત થયેલી હોય નહિ એવું છે.
22 From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, the bow of Jonathan turned not back, and the sword of Saul returned not empty.
૨૨જેઓ માર્યા ગયા છે તેઓના લોહી, બળવાનોનાં શરીરની ચરબીથી યોનાથાનનું તીર પાછું પડતું ન હતું શાઉલની તલવાર ઘા કર્યા વગર પાછી પડતી ન હતી.
23 Saul and Jonathan, the lovely and the pleasant in their lives, even in their death they were not divided; they were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.
૨૩શાઉલ અને યોનાથાન જીવન દરમ્યાન એકબીજા પ્રત્યે પ્રેમ કરતા હતા અને કૃપાળુ હતા, તેઓના મૃત્યુકાળે તેઓ જુદા ન પડ્યા. તેઓ ગરુડ કરતાં વધારે વેગવાન હતા, તેઓ સિંહોથી વધારે બળવાન હતા.
24 Ye daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you in scarlet, with other delights, who put ornaments of gold upon your apparel.
૨૪અરે ઇઝરાયલની દીકરીઓ, શાઉલને માટે વિલાપ કરો, જેણે તમને સુંદર કિરમજી વસ્ત્રો પહેરાવ્યાં, જેણે સોનાનાં આભૂષણથી તમારાં વસ્ત્રો શણગાર્યા.
25 How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! Jonathan upon thy high places is slain!
૨૫કેવી રીતે યોદ્ધાઓ યુદ્ધમાં માર્યા ગયા છે! હે યોનાથાન તું તારા જ પર્વતો પર માર્યો ગયો છે.
26 I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan; very pleasant hast thou been unto me; wonderful was thy love to me, passing the love of women.
૨૬તારે લીધે મને દુઃખ થાય છે, મારા ભાઈ યોનાથાન. તું મને બહુ વહાલો હતો. મારા પર તારો પ્રેમ અદ્દભુત હતો, સ્ત્રીઓના પ્રેમથી વિશેષ અને અદ્દભુત હતો.
27 How are the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished!
૨૭યોદ્ધાઓ કેવા માર્યા ગયા છે, અને યુદ્ધના શસ્ત્રોનો કેવો વિનાશ થયો છે!”
