2 Samuel 6

1 And David again gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.

David rassembla de nouveau toute l’élite d’Israël, trente mille hommes,

2 And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him, from Baale-judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whereupon is called the Name, even the name of the LORD of hosts that sitteth upon the cherubim.

et, suivi de tout ce peuple, il se mit en marche du côté de Baalé-Yehouda pour en faire venir l’arche du Seigneur, à laquelle est imposé le nom, le nom même de l’Eternel-Cebaot, qui siège sur les chérubins.

3 And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart.

On plaça l’arche du Seigneur sur un chariot neuf, et on la transporta hors de la maison d’Abinadab, située sur la colline; Ouzza et Ahyo, fils d’Abinadab, conduisaient ce chariot neuf.

4 And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was in the hill, with the ark of God, and Ahio went before the ark.

Ils la voiturèrent depuis la maison d’Abinadab, située sur la colline, en accompagnant l’arche du Seigneur; mais Ahyo marchait en avant de l’arche.

5 And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD with all manner of instruments made of cypress-wood, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with sistra, and with cymbals.

David et toute la maison d’Israël jouaient, devant le Seigneur, de toutes sortes d’instruments de bois de cyprès: harpes, luths, tambourins, sistres et cymbales.

6 And when they came to the threshing-floor of Nacon, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen stumbled.

Comme on arrivait à l’aire de Nakhôn, Ouzza s’élança vers l’arche du Seigneur et la retint, parce que les bœufs avaient glissé.

7 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.

La colère du Seigneur s’alluma contre Ouzza, et il le frappa sur place pour cette faute; et il mourut là, à côté de l’arche de Dieu.

8 And David was displeased, because the LORD had broken forth upon Uzzah; and that place was called Perez-uzzah, unto this day

David, consterné du coup dont l’Eternel avait frappé Ouzza, donna à ce lieu le nom de Péreç-Ouzza, qu’il porte encore aujourd’hui.

9 And David was afraid of the LORD that day; and he said: 'How shall the ark of the LORD come unto me?'

David, ce jour-là, redouta l’Eternel et dit: "Comment l’arche de l’Eternel viendrait-elle chez moi!"

10 So David would not remove the ark of the LORD unto him into the city of David; but David carried it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

Et David n’osa faire amener chez lui, dans la Cité de David, l’arche du Seigneur, et il la fit diriger vers la maison d’Obed-Edom, le Ghittéen.

11 And the ark of the LORD remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months; and the LORD blessed Obed-edom, and all his house.

L’Arche du Seigneur demeura trois mois dans la maison d’Obed-Edom, le Ghittéen, et le Seigneur bénit Obed-Edom et toute sa maison.

12 And it was told king David, saying: 'The LORD hath blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God.' And David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into the city of David with joy.

Le roi David, ayant appris que le Seigneur avait béni la maison et tous les biens d’Obed-Edom à cause de l’arche divine, y alla, et fit transporter l’arche divine de la maison d’Obéd-Edom à la Cité de David, avec des réjouissances.

13 And it was so, that when they that bore the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fatling.

Quand ceux qui portaient l’arche du Seigneur avaient avancé de six pas, on immolait un taureau et une bête grasse.

14 And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

David dansait de toutes ses forces devant le Seigneur; il était vêtu d’un éphod de lin.

15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the horn.

Et David et toute la maison d’Israël escortaient l’arche du Seigneur avec des cris de joie et au son du cor.

16 And it was so, as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out at the window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.

Comme l’arche du Seigneur entrait dans la Cité de David, Mikhal, fille de Saül, regarda par la fenêtre, vit le roi David sautant et dansant devant le Seigneur, et elle en conçut du dédain pour lui.

17 And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in its place, in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings before the LORD.

Or, on introduisit l’arche du Seigneur et on l’installa à sa place, dans le pavillon que David avait dressé pour elle; et David offrit, devant l’Eternel, des holocaustes et des rémunératoires.

18 And when David had made an end of offering the burnt-offering and the peace-offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.

Lorsque David eut achevé d’offrir ces sacrifices, il bénit le peuple au nom de l’Eternel-Cebaot,

19 And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, both to men and women, to every one a cake of bread, and a cake made in a pan, and a sweet cake. So all the people departed every one to his house.

fit distribuer à tout le peuple, à toute la multitude d’Israël, hommes et femmes, à chacun un gâteau de pain, une pièce de viande et une mesure de vin; et tout le peuple se retira, chacun chez soi.

20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said: 'How did the king of Israel get him honour to-day, who uncovered himself to-day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!'

David rentra pour bénir sa famille; Mikhal, fille de Saül, vint à sa rencontre et dit: "Combien s’est honoré aujourd’hui le roi d’Israël, se donnant en spectacle aux servantes de ses serviteurs, comme eût pu le faire un homme de rien!"

21 And David said unto Michal: 'Before the LORD, who chose me above thy father, and above all his house, to appoint me prince over the people of the LORD, over Israel, before the LORD will I make merry.

David répondit à Mikhal: "C’Est devant l’Eternel, qui m’a élu de préférence à ton père et à tous les siens, en m’instituant prince du peuple de Dieu, prince d’Israël, c’est devant l’Eternel que j’ai dansé et danserai encore;

22 And I will be yet more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight; and with the handmaids whom thou hast spoken of, with them will I get me honour.'

et volontiers je m’humilierai davantage et me ferai petit à mes propres yeux; pour ces servantes dont tu parles, c’est auprès d’elles que je me glorifierai!"

23 And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.

Mikhal, fille de Saül, n’eut pas d’enfant jusqu’au jour de sa mort.
