2 Samuel 4

1 And when Saul's son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands became feeble, and all the Israelites were affrighted.

Quand le fils de Saül eut appris qu’Abner était mort à Hébron, les bras lui tombèrent; tout Israël aussi fut consterné.

2 And Saul's son had two men that were captains of bands; the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin; for Beeroth also is reckoned to Benjamin;

Parmi les chefs de bande du fils de Saül se trouvaient deux hommes ayant nom l’un Baana, l’autre Rêkhab, deux Benjamites, fils de Rimmon le Beérotite; car Beérot aussi était attribué à Benjamin.

3 and the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and have been sojourners there until this day.

Les Beérotites s’étaient réfugiés à Ghittayim, où ils ont résidé jusqu’à ce jour.

4 Now Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled; and it came to pass, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.

(Jonathan, fils de Saül, avait laissé un fils boiteux; ce dernier avait cinq ans lorsqu’arriva, de Jezreël, la nouvelle relative à Saül et à Jonathan; sa nourrice l’emporta en fuyant, le laissa tomber dans sa précipitation, et il devint boiteux; il se nommait Mephiboseth.)

5 And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, and came about the heat of the day to the house of Ish-bosheth, as he took his rest at noon.

Or, les fils de Rimmon le Beérotite, Rêkhab et Baana, s’acheminèrent vers la demeure d’Isboseth, où ils arrivèrent au plus chaud de la journée; il était couché, goûtant le repos de midi.

6 And they came thither into the midst of the house, as though they would have fetched wheat; and they smote him in the groin; and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.

Rêkhab et son frère Baana pénétrèrent jusque dans l’intérieur de la maison en acheteurs de froment, le frappèrent dans l’aine et se sauvèrent.

7 Now when they came into the house, as he lay on his bed in his bed-chamber, they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and went by the way of the Arabah all night.

Ils y étaient entrés comme il reposait sur son lit, dans sa chambre à coucher, l’avaient frappé à mort et lui avaient coupé la tête. Munis de cette tête, ils s’en allèrent par la plaine et marchèrent toute la nuit.

8 And they brought the head of Ish-bosheth unto David to Hebron, and said to the king: 'Behold the head of Ish-bosheth the son of Saul thine enemy, who sought thy life; and the LORD hath avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed.'

Ils apportèrent à David, à Hébron, la tête d’lsboseth, et dirent au roi: "Voici la tête d’Isboseth, fils de Saül, ton ennemi, qui en voulait à ta vie. Dieu a vengé en ce jour mon seigneur le roi de Saül et de sa postérité."

9 And David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said unto them: 'As the LORD liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity,

David répondit à Rêkhab et à Baana, son frère, fils de Rimmon le Beérotite, en ces termes: "Par le Dieu vivant, qui a sauvé ma personne de tous les dangers!

10 when one told me, saying: Behold, Saul is dead, and he was in his own eyes as though he brought good tidings, I took hold of him, and slew him in Ziklag, instead of giving a reward for his tidings.

celui qui m’annonça que Saül était mort, se croyant porteur d’une bonne nouvelle, je le fis saisir et tuer à Ciklag, le payant ainsi de sa bonne nouvelle;

11 How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed, shall I not now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?'

combien plus, quand des méchants ont fait périr un homme de bien dans sa maison, sur sa couche! Et maintenant, certes, je vous demanderai compte de son sang et vous ferai disparaître du pays."

12 And David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up beside the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ish-bosheth, and buried it in the grave of Abner in Hebron.

Sur l’ordre de David, les serviteurs les mirent à mort, leur coupèrent les mains et les pieds et les pendirent près de l’étang de Hébron; quant à la tête d’Isboseth, ils la prirent pour la déposer dans le sépulcre d’Abner, à Hébron.
