2 Samuel 19

1 And it was told Joab: 'Behold, the king weepeth and mourneth for Absalom.'

E disseram a Joab: Eis que o rei anda chorando, e lastima-se por Absalão.

2 And the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people; for the people heard say that day: 'The king grieveth for his son.'

Então a victoria se tornou n'aquelle mesmo dia em tristeza para todo o povo: porque aquelle mesmo dia o povo ouvira dizer: Mui triste está o rei por causa de seu filho.

3 And the people got them by stealth that day into the city, as people that are ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.

E aquelle mesmo dia o povo se escoou ás furtadellas na cidade, como o povo de vergonhoso se escoa escondidamente quando fogem da peleja.

4 And the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice: 'O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!'

Estava pois o rei com o rosto coberto; e o rei gritava a alta voz: Meu filho Absalão, Absalão meu filho, meu filho!

5 And Joab came into the house to the king, and said: 'Thou hast shamed this day the faces of all thy servants, who this day have saved thy life, and the lives of thy sons and of thy daughters, and the lives of thy wives, and the lives of thy concubines;

Então entrou Joab ao rei em casa, e disse: Hoje envergonhaste as caras de todos os teus servos, que livraram hoje a tua vida, e a vida de teus filhos, e de tuas filhas, e a vida de tuas mulheres, e a vida de tuas concubinas.

6 in that thou lovest them that hate thee, and hatest them that love thee. For thou hast declared this day, that princes and servants are nought unto thee; for this day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased thee well.

Amando tu aos que te aborrecem, e aborrecendo aos que te amam: porque hoje dás a entender que nada valem para comtigo capitães e servos; porque entendo hoje que se Absalão vivesse, e todos nós hoje fossemos mortos, então bem te parecera aos teus olhos.

7 Now therefore arise, go forth, and speak to the heart of thy servants; for I swear by the LORD, if thou go not forth, there will not tarry a man with thee this night; and that will be worse unto thee than all the evil that hath befallen thee from thy youth until now.'

Levanta-te pois agora; sae, e falla conforme ao coração de teus servos: porque pelo Senhor te juro que, se não saires, nem um só homem ficará comtigo esta noite; e mais mal te será isto do que todo o mal que tem vindo sobre ti desde a tua mocidade até agora.

8 Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told unto all the people, saying: 'Behold, the king doth sit in the gate'; and all the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his tent.

Então o rei se levantou, e se assentou á porta: e fizeram saber a todo o povo, dizendo: Eis que o rei está assentado á porta. Então todo o povo veiu apresentar-se diante do rei; porém Israel fugiu cada um para as suas tendas.

9 And all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying: 'The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land from Absalom.

E todo o povo, em todas as tribus de Israel, andava porfiando entre si, dizendo: O rei nos tirou das mãos de nossos inimigos, e elle nos livrou das mãos dos philisteos; e agora fugiu da terra por causa de Absalão.

10 And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now, therefore, why speak ye not a word of bringing the king back?'

E Absalão, a quem ungimos sobre nós, já morreu na peleja: agora, pois, porque vos calaes, e não fazeis voltar o rei

11 And king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying: 'Speak unto the elders of Judah, saying: Why are ye the last to bring the king back to his house? — For the speech of all Israel was come to the king, to bring him to his house. —

Então o rei David enviou a Zadok e a Abiathar, sacerdotes, dizendo: Fallae aos anciãos de Judah, dizendo: Porque serieis vós os ultimos em tornar a trazer o rei para a sua casa? (porque as palavras de todo o Israel chegaram ao rei, até á sua casa.)

12 Ye are my brethren, ye are my bone and my flesh; wherefore then should ye be the last to bring back the king?

Vós sois meus irmãos, meus ossos e minha carne sois vós: porque pois serieis os ultimos em tornar a trazer o rei?

13 And say ye to Amasa: Art thou not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab.'

E a Amasa direis: Porventura não és tu meu osso e minha carne? assim me faça Deus, e outro tanto, se não fores chefe do arraial diante de mim para sempre, em logar de Joab.

14 And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man; so that they sent unto the king: 'Return thou, and all thy servants.'

Assim moveu o coração de todos os homens de Judah, como o d'um só homem: e enviaram ao rei, dizendo: Volta tu com todos os teus servos.

15 So the king returned, and came to the Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to bring the king over the Jordan.

Então o rei voltou, e chegou até ao Jordão; e Judah veiu a Gilgal, para ir encontrar-se com o rei, á outra banda do Jordão.

16 And Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, who was of Bahurim, made haste and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.

E apressou-se Simei, filho de Gera, filho de Jemini, que era de Bahurim: e desceu com os homens de Judah a encontrar-se com o rei David,

17 And there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him. And they rushed into the Jordan before the king.

E com elle mil varões de Benjamin, como tambem Ziba, servo da casa de Saul, e seus quinze filhos, e seus vinte servos com elle: e promptamente passaram o Jordão adiante do rei.

18 And the ferryboat passed to and fro to bring over the king's household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, when he would go over the Jordan.

E, passando a barca, para fazer passar a casa do rei e para trazer o que bem parecesse aos seus olhos, então Simei, filho de Gera, se prostrou diante do rei, passando elle o Jordão.

19 And he said unto the king: 'Let not my lord impute iniquity unto me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did iniquitously the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.

E disse ao rei: Não me impute meu senhor a minha culpa, e não te lembres do que tão perversamente fez teu servo, no dia em que o rei meu senhor saiu de Jerusalem, para o rei conserval-o no coração.

20 For thy servant doth know that I have sinned; therefore, behold, I am come this day the first of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.'

Porque teu servo devéras confessa que eu pequei: porém eis que eu sou o primeiro que de toda a casa de José desci a encontrar-me com o rei meu senhor.

21 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said: 'Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD'S anointed?'

Então respondeu Abisai, filho de Zeruia, e disse: Não morreria pois Simei por isto, havendo amaldiçoado ao ungido do Senhor?

22 And David said: 'What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel?'

Porém David disse: Que tenho eu comvosco, filhos de Zeruia, para que hoje me sejaes adversarios? morreria alguem hoje em Israel? porque porventura não sei que hoje fui feito rei sobre Israel?

23 And the king said unto Shimei: 'Thou shalt not die.' And the king swore unto him.

E disse o rei a Simei: Não morrerás. E o rei lh'o jurou.

24 And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; and he had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came home in peace.

Tambem Mephiboseth, filho de Saul, desceu a encontrar-se com o rei, e não tinha lavado os pés, nem tinha feito a barba, nem tinha lavado os seus vestidos desde o dia em que o rei tinha saido até ao dia em que voltou em paz.

25 And it came to pass, when he was come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said unto him: 'Wherefore wentest not thou with me, Mephibosheth?'

E succedeu que, vindo elle a Jerusalem a encontrar-se com o rei, disse-lhe o rei: Porque não foste comigo, Mephiboseth?

26 And he answered: 'My lord, O king, my servant deceived me; for thy servant said: I will saddle me an ass, that I may ride thereon, and go with the king; because thy servant is lame.

E disse elle: Ó rei meu senhor, o meu servo me enganou; porque o teu servo dizia: Albardarei um jumento, e n'elle montarei, e irei com o rei; pois o teu servo é côxo.

27 And he hath slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God; do therefore what is good in thine eyes.

De mais d'isto, falsamente accusou a teu servo diante do rei meu senhor; porém o rei meu senhor é como um anjo de Deus; faze pois o que parecer bem aos teus olhos.

28 For all my father's house were deserving of death at the hand of my lord the king; yet didst thou set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet? or why should I cry any more unto the king?'

Porque toda a casa de meu pae não era senão de homens dignos de morte diante do rei meu senhor; e comtudo puzeste a teu servo entre os que comem á tua mesa: e que mais direito tenho eu de clamar ao rei?

29 And the king said unto him: 'Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I say: Thou and Ziba divide the land.'

E disse-lhe o rei: Porque ainda mais fallas de teus negocios? já disse eu: Tu e Ziba reparti as terras.

30 And Mephibosheth said unto the king: 'Yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come in peace unto his own house.'

E disse Mephiboseth ao rei; Tome elle tambem tudo: pois já veiu o rei meu senhor em paz á sua casa.

31 And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim; and he passed on to Jordan with the king, to bring him on the way over the Jordan.

Tambem Barzillai, o gileadita, desceu de Rogelim, e passou com o rei o Jordão, para o acompanhar á outra banda do Jordão.

32 Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even fourscore years old; and he had provided the king with sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.

E era Barzillai mui velho, da edade de oitenta annos; e elle tinha sustentado o rei, quando tinha a sua morada em Mahanaim, porque era homem mui grande.

33 And the king said unto Barzillai: 'Come thou over with me, and I will sustain thee with me in Jerusalem.'

E disse o rei a Barzillai: Passa tu comigo, e sustentar-te-hei comigo em Jerusalem.

34 And Barzillai said unto the king: 'How many are the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem?

Porém Barzillai disse ao rei: Quantos serão os dias dos annos da minha vida, para que suba com o rei a Jerusalem?

35 I am this day fourscore years old; can I discern between good and bad? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?

Da edade de oitenta annos sou eu hoje; poderia eu discernir entre bom e mau? poderia o teu servo ter gosto no que comer e beber? Poderia eu mais ouvir a voz dos cantores e cantoras? E porque será o teu servo ainda pesado ao rei meu senhor?

36 Thy servant would but just go over the Jordan with the king; and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?

Com o rei passará teu servo ainda um pouco mais além do Jordão: e porque me recompensará o rei com tal recompensa?

37 Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back, that I may die in mine own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But behold thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.'

Deixa voltar o teu servo, e morrerei na minha cidade, junto á sepultura de meu pae e de minha mãe: mas eis ahi está o teu servo Chimham, o qual passe com o rei meu senhor, e faze-lhe o que bem parecer aos teus olhos.

38 And the king answered: 'Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee; and whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.'

Então disse o rei: Chimham passará comigo, e eu lhe farei como bem parecer aos teus olhos, e tudo quanto me pedires te farei.

39 And all the people went over the Jordan, and the king went over; and the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.

Havendo pois todo o povo passado o Jordão, e passando tambem o rei, beijou o rei a Barzillai, e o abençoou: e elle voltou para o seu logar.

40 So the king went over to Gilgal, and Chimham went over with him; and all the people of Judah brought the king over, and also half the people of Israel.

E d'ali passou o rei a Gilgal, e Chimham passou com elle: e todo o povo de Judah conduziu o rei, como tambem a metade do povo d'Israel.

41 And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said unto the king: 'Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen thee away, and brought the king, and his household, over the Jordan, and all David's men with him?'

E eis que todos os homens d'Israel vieram ao rei, e disseram ao rei: Porque te furtaram nossos irmãos, os homens de Judah, e conduziram o rei e a sua casa d'além do Jordão, e todos os homens de David com elles?

42 And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel: 'Because the king is near of kin to us; wherefore then are ye angry for this matter? have we eaten at all of the king's cost? or hath any gift been given us?'

Então responderam todos os homens de Judah aos homens de Israel: Porquanto o rei é nosso parente; e porque vos iraes por isso? Porventura comemos ás costas do rei, ou nos apresentou algum presente?

43 And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said: 'We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more right in David than ye; why then did ye despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king?' And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

E responderam os homens d'Israel aos homens de Judah, e disseram: Dez partes temos no rei, e até em David mais temos nós do que vós; porque pois não fizestes conta de nós, para que a nossa palavra não fosse a primeira, para tornar a trazer o nosso rei? Porém a palavra dos homens de Judah foi mais forte do que a palavra dos homens d'Israel.
