1 Samuel 20
1 And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan: 'What have I done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life?'
পরে দাউদ রামার নায়োত থেকে পালিয়ে যোনাথনের কাছে গিয়ে তাঁকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আমি কী করেছি? আমি কী দোষ করেছি? আমি তোমার বাবার প্রতি কী এমন অন্যায় করেছি, যে তিনি আমায় হত্যা করতে চাইছেন?”
2 And he said unto him: 'Far from it; thou shalt not die; behold, my father doeth nothing either great or small, but that he discloseth it unto me; and why should my father hide this thing from me? it is not so.'
“কখনোই না!” যোনাথন উত্তর দিলেন। “তুমি মারা পড়বে না! দেখো, আমার বাবা, ছোটো হোক কি বড়ো, কোনো কিছুই আমাকে না জানিয়ে করেন না। তিনি আমার কাছে একথা লুকাবেন কেন? এ হতেই পারে না!”
3 And David swore moreover, and said: 'Thy father knoweth well that I have found favour in thine eyes; and he saith: Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved; but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.'
কিন্তু দাউদ দিব্যি করে বললেন, “তোমার বাবা ভালোভাবেই জানেন যে আমি তোমার প্রিয়পাত্র, আর তিনি মনে মনে বলেছেন, ‘যোনাথন যেন একথা জানতে না পারে, তা না হলে সে খুব দুঃখ পাবে।’ তবুও জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্যি ও তোমার প্রাণের দিব্যি, আমার ও মৃত্যুর মাঝখানে শুধু এক পায়ের ফাঁক রয়ে গিয়েছে।”
4 Then said Jonathan unto David: 'What doth thy soul desire, that I should do it for thee?'
যোনাথন দাউদকে বললেন, “তুমি আমাকে যা করতে বলবে, আমি তোমার জন্য তাই করব।”
5 And David said unto Jonathan: 'Behold, to-morrow is the new moon, when I should sit with the king to eat; so let me go, that I may hide myself in the field unto the third day at even.
অতএব দাউদ তাঁকে বললেন, “দেখো, আগামীকাল অমাবস্যার উৎসব, আর মহারাজের সঙ্গে আমার ভোজনপান করার কথা; কিন্তু আমি পরশু সন্ধ্যা পর্যন্ত মাঠে গিয়ে লুকিয়ে থাকব।
6 If thy father miss me at all, then say: David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Beth-lehem his city; for it is the yearly sacrifice there for all the family.
যদি তোমার বাবা আমার খোঁজ করেন তবে তাঁকে বোলো, ‘দাউদ তাড়াতাড়ি তার আপন নগর বেথলেহেমে যাওয়ার জন্য আমার কাছে আন্তরিকভাবে অনুমতি চেয়েছিল, কারণ তার সম্পূর্ণ গোষ্ঠীর জন্য সেখানে এক বাৎসরিক বলিদানের অনুষ্ঠান হওয়ার কথা।’
7 If he say thus: It is well; thy servant shall have peace; but if he be wroth, then know that evil is determined by him.
যদি তিনি বলেন, ‘ঠিক আছে,’ তবে তোমার দাস সুরক্ষিত থাকবে। কিন্তু তিনি যদি মেজাজ হারান, তুমি নিশ্চিন্ত থাকতে পারো যে তিনি আমার ক্ষতি করবেনই করবেন।
8 Therefore deal kindly with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of the LORD with thee; but if there be in me iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy father?'
আর তুমি তোমার দাসের প্রতি দয়া দেখিয়ো, কারণ সদাপ্রভুকে সাক্ষী রেখে তুমি তার সঙ্গে এক নিয়ম স্থির করেছ। আমি যদি দোষী সাব্যস্ত হই তবে তুমিই আমাকে হত্যা কোরো! তোমার বাবার হাতে তুমি কেন আমাকে সমর্পণ করবে?”
9 And Jonathan said: 'Far be it from thee; for if I should at all know that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee?
“কখনোই না!” যোনাথন বললেন। “আমি যদি বিন্দুমাত্র আভাস পেতাম যে আমার বাবা তোমার ক্ষতি করার জন্য মনস্থির করে ফেলেছেন, তবে কি আমি তোমাকে বলতাম না?”
10 Then said David to Jonathan: 'Who shall tell me if perchance thy father answer thee roughly?'
দাউদ জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তোমার বাবা তোমাকে রুক্ষভাবে উত্তর দিয়েছেন কি না তা আমাকে কে বলে দেবে?”
11 And Jonathan said unto David: 'Come and let us go out into the field.' And they went out both of them into the field.
“এসো,” যোনাথন বললেন, “আমরা মাঠে যাই।” অতএব তাঁরা দুজনে সেখানে গেলেন।
12 And Jonathan said unto David: 'The LORD, the God of Israel — when I have sounded my father about this time to-morrow, or the third day, behold, if there be good toward David, shall I not then send unto thee, and disclose it unto thee?
পরে যোনাথন দাউদকে বললেন, “আমি ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর নামে শপথ করে বলছি, পরশুদিন এইসময় আমি নিশ্চয় আমার বাবার সঙ্গে কথা বলব! যদি তিনি তোমার প্রতি সদয় হন, তবে কি আমি তোমাকে খবর দিয়ে পাঠাব না?
13 The LORD do so to Jonathan, and more also, should it please my father to do thee evil, if I disclose it not unto thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace; and the LORD be with thee, as He hath been with my father.
কিন্তু যদি আমার বাবা তোমার ক্ষতি করতে চান ও আমি তোমাকে তা জানিয়ে নিরাপদে ফেরত না পাঠাই, তবে সদাপ্রভু যোনাথনকে যেন কঠোর দণ্ড দেন। সদাপ্রভু যেভাবে আমার বাবার সহবর্তী ছিলেন, সেভাবে যেন তোমারও সহবর্তী হন
14 And thou shalt not only while yet I live show me the kindness of the LORD, that I die not;
কিন্তু আমি যতদিন বেঁচে থাকব তুমি আমার প্রতি তেমনই অপর্যাপ্ত দয়া দেখিয়ো যেমনটি দয়া সদাপ্রভু দেখান, যেন আমাকে নিহত হতে না হয়,
15 but also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever; no, not when the LORD hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.'
এবং আমার পরিবার-পরিজনের প্রতিও তোমার দয়ায় কাটছাঁট কোরো না—এমনকি যখন সদাপ্রভু পৃথিবীর বুক থেকে দাউদের এক-একটি শত্রুকে মুছে দেবেন, তখনও এমনটি কোরো না।”
16 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David: 'The LORD even require it at the hand of David's enemies.'
অতএব যোনাথন এই বলে দাউদের বংশের সঙ্গে এক নিয়ম স্থির করলেন, “সদাপ্রভু যেন দাউদের শত্রুদের কাছে কৈফিয়ত তলব করেন।”
17 And Jonathan caused David to swear again, for the love that he had to him; for he loved him as he loved his own soul.
যেহেতু যোনাথন দাউদকে প্রাণ দিয়ে ভালোবাসতেন, তাই তাঁকে ভালোবাসার খাতিরে তিনি আরেকবার দাউদকে দিয়ে শপথ করিয়ে নিলেন।
18 And Jonathan said unto him: 'To-morrow is the new moon; and thou wilt be missed, thy seat will be empty.
পরে যোনাথন দাউদকে বললেন, “আগামীকাল অমাবস্যার উৎসব। তোমার অভাববোধ হবে, কারণ তোমার আসনটি খালি থাকবে।
19 And in the third day thou shalt hide thyself well, and come to the place where thou didst hide thyself in the day of work, and shalt remain by the stone Ezel.
এই সমস্যাটি শুরু হওয়ার সময় তুমি যেখানে লুকিয়ে ছিলে, পরশুদিন সন্ধ্যার দিকে তুমি সেখানেই চলে যেয়ো, এবং এষল নামক সেই পাথরটির পাশে দাঁড়িয়ে অপেক্ষা কোরো।
20 And I will shoot three arrows to the side-ward, as though I shot at a mark.
আমি এমনভাবে সেটির পাশে তিনটি তির ছুঁড়ব, যেন মনে হয় আমি বুঝি নিশানা তাক করে তির ছুঁড়ছি।
21 And, behold, I will send the lad: Go, find the arrows. If I say unto the lad: Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee; take them, and come; for there is peace to thee and no hurt, as the LORD liveth.
পরে আমি একটি ছেলেকে পাঠিয়ে বলব, ‘যাও, তিরগুলি খুঁজে নিয়ে এসো।’ যদি আমি তাকে বলি, ‘দেখো, তিরগুলি তোমার এদিকে আছে; সেগুলি এখানে নিয়ে এসো,’ তবে তুমি এসো, কারণ, জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্যি, তুমি নিরাপদেই আছ; কোনও বিপদ নেই।
22 But if I say thus unto the boy: Behold, the arrows are beyond thee; go thy way; for the LORD hath sent thee away.
কিন্তু আমি যদি সেই ছেলেটিকে বলি, ‘দেখো, তিরগুলি তোমার ওদিকে গিয়ে পড়েছে,’ তবে তোমাকে যেতেই হবে, কারণ সদাপ্রভু তোমাকে পাঠিয়ে দিয়েছেন।
23 And as touching the matter which I and thou have spoken of, behold, the LORD is between me and thee for ever.'
আর তুমি ও আমি যে বিষয়ে আলোচনা করেছি—মনে রেখো, সে বিষয়ে সদাপ্রভু তোমার ও আমার মধ্যে চিরকালের জন্য সাক্ষী হয়ে রইলেন।”
24 So David hid himself in the field; and when the new moon was come, the king sat him down to the meal to eat.
অতএব দাউদ মাঠে লুকিয়ে থাকলেন, ও যখন অমাবস্যার উৎসব এল, রাজামশাই খেতে বসেছিলেন।
25 And the king sat upon his seat, as at other times, even upon the seat by the wall; and Jonathan stood up, and Abner sat by Saul's side; but David's place was empty.
প্রথানুযায়ী তিনি দেওয়ালের পাশে বসেছিলেন, ও যোনাথন তাঁর উল্টোদিকে বসেছিলেন, এবং অবনের শৌলের ঠিক পাশেই বসেছিলেন, কিন্তু দাউদের আসনটি খালি ছিল।
26 Nevertheless Saul spoke not any thing that day; for he thought: 'Something hath befallen him, he is unclean; surely he is not clean.'
শৌল সেদিন কিছু বলেননি, কারণ তিনি ভেবেছিলেন, “দাউদের এমন কিছু হয়েছে যার দ্বারা সে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে অশুচি হয়েছে—নিশ্চয় সে অশুচি অবস্থায় আছে।”
27 And it came to pass on the morrow after the new moon, which was the second day, that David's place was empty; and Saul said unto Jonathan his son: 'Wherefore cometh not the son of Jesse to the meal, neither yesterday, nor to-day?'
কিন্তু পরদিন, মাসের দ্বিতীয় দিনেও দাউদের আসন খালি পড়েছিল। তখন শৌল তাঁর ছেলে যোনাথনকে বললেন, “যিশয়ের ছেলে কেন গতকাল ও আজও খেতে আসেনি?”
28 And Jonathan answered Saul: 'David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Beth-lehem;
যোনাথন তাঁকে উত্তর দিলেন, “বেথলেহেমে যাওয়ার জন্য দাউদ আমার কাছে আন্তরিকভাবে অনুমতি চেয়েছিল।
29 and he said: Let me go, I pray thee; for our family hath a sacrifice in the city; and my brother, he hath commanded me; and now, if I have found favour in thine eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. Therefore he is not come unto the king's table.'
সে বলেছিল, ‘আমাকে যেতে দাও, কারণ আমাদের পরিবার সেই নগরে বলিদানের এক অনুষ্ঠান পালন করছে ও আমার দাদা আমাকে সেখানে উপস্থিত থাকার আদেশ দিয়েছেন। আমি যদি তোমার প্রিয়পাত্র হয়ে থাকি, তবে দয়া করে আমাকে আমার দাদাদের সঙ্গে দেখা করে আসতে দাও।’ এজন্যই সে আজ মহারাজের খাওয়ার টেবিলে আসেনি।”
30 Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him: 'Thou son of perverse rebellion, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own shame, and unto the shame of thy mother's nakedness?
শৌল যোনাথনের প্রতি ক্রোধে ফেটে পড়লেন ও তাঁকে বললেন, “ওরে স্বেচ্ছাচারিণী ও বিদ্রোহিণী নারীর ছেলে! আমি কি জানি না যে তুই নিজেকে ও তোর জন্মদাত্রী মাকে লজ্জিত করার জন্য যিশয়ের ছেলের পক্ষ নিয়েছিস?
31 For as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the earth, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he deserveth to die.'
যতদিন যিশয়ের ছেলে এই পৃথিবীতে বেঁচে থাকবে, না তুই স্থির থাকবি, না তোর রাজ্য স্থির থাকবে। এখন কাউকে পাঠিয়ে ওকে আমার কাছে ডেকে আন, কারণ ওকে মরতেই হবে!”
32 And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him: 'Wherefore should he be put to death? what hath he done?'
“ওকে কেন মরতে হবে? ও কী করেছে?” যোনাথন তাঁর বাবাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন।
33 And Saul cast his spear at him to smite him; whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father to put David to death.
কিন্তু শৌল তাঁর বর্শাটি যোনাথনের দিকে ছুঁড়ে তাঁকেই মেরে ফেলতে চাইলেন। তখন যোনাথন বুঝতে পারলেন যে তাঁর বাবা দাউদকে হত্যা করবেন বলে মনস্থির করে ফেলেছেন।
34 So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did eat no food the second day of the month; for he was grieved for David, and because his father had put him to shame.
যোনাথন প্রচণ্ড ক্রুদ্ধ হয়ে টেবিল থেকে উঠে গেলেন; উৎসবের সেই দ্বিতীয় দিনে তিনি ভোজনপান করেননি, কারণ দাউদের প্রতি তাঁর বাবার লজ্জাজনক আচরণ দেখে তিনি মনে দুঃখ পেয়েছিলেন।
35 And it came to pass in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad with him.
সকালে যোনাথন দাউদের সঙ্গে দেখা করার জন্য মাঠে গেলেন। তাঁর সাথে ছিল একটি ছোটো ছেলে,
36 And he said unto his lad: 'Run, find now the arrows which I shoot.' And as the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.
আর তিনি সেই ছেলেটিকে বললেন, “দৌড়ে গিয়ে আমার ছোঁড়া তিরগুলি খুঁজে নিয়ে এসো।” ছেলেটি দৌড়াতে শুরু করলে, তিনি তাকে পার করে একটি তির ছুঁড়ে দিলেন।
37 And when the lad was come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the lad, and said: 'Is not the arrow beyond thee?'
যোনাথনের তিরটি যেখানে গিয়ে পড়ল, ছেলেটি সেখানে পৌঁছানোর পর যোনাথন তাকে ডেকে বললেন, “তিরটি কি তোমাকে পার করে যায়নি?”
38 And Jonathan cried after the lad: 'Make speed, hasten, stay not.' And Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.
পরে তিনি চিৎকার করে বললেন, “তাড়াতাড়ি করো! জোরে দৌড়াও! থেমো না!” ছেলেটি তিরটি সংগ্রহ করে তার মালিকের কাছে ফিরে এল।
39 But the lad knew not any thing; only Jonathan and David knew the matter.
(ছেলেটি এসব বিষয়ে কিছুই জানতে পারেনি; শুধু যোনাথন ও দাউদই জানতে পেরেছিলেন)
40 And Jonathan gave his weapons unto his lad, and said unto him: 'Go, carry them to the city.'
পরে যোনাথন তাঁর অস্ত্রশস্ত্র ছেলেটির হাতে দিয়ে বললেন, “যাও, এগুলি নগরে ফিরিয়ে নিয়ে যাও।”
41 And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the South, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed down three times; and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.
ছেলেটি ফিরে যাওয়ার পর, দাউদ সেই পাথরটির দক্ষিণ দিক থেকে উঠে এসে যোনাথনের সামনে তিনবার মাটিতে উবুড় হয়ে তাঁকে প্রণাম করলেন। পরে তাঁরা দুজন পরস্পরকে চুমু দিয়ে একসঙ্গে কাঁদলেন—কিন্তু দাউদই বেশি করে কাঁদলেন।
42 And Jonathan said to David: 'Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying: The LORD shall be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed, for ever.' And he arose and departed; and Jonathan went into the city.
যোনাথন দাউদকে বললেন, “নির্ঝঞ্ঝাটে চলে যাও, কারণ এই বলে আমরা সদাপ্রভুর নামে পরস্পরের সঙ্গে বন্ধুত্ব করেছি যে, ‘সদাপ্রভু তোমার ও আমার মধ্যে, এবং তোমার ও আমার বংশধরদের মধ্যে চিরকাল সাক্ষী হয়ে আছেন।’” পরে দাউদ বিদায় নিলেন ও যোনাথন নগরে ফিরে গেলেন।
