1 Samuel 2
1 And Hannah prayed, and said: my heart exulteth in the LORD, my horn is exalted in the LORD; my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in Thy salvation.
૧હાન્નાએ પ્રાર્થના કરતાં કહ્યું કે, “મારું હૃદય ઈશ્વરમાં આનંદ કરે છે; મારું શિંગ ઈશ્વરમાં ઊંચું કરાયું છે; મારું મુખ મારા શત્રુઓ સામે હિંમતથી બોલે છે, કેમ કે હું તમારા ઉદ્ધારમાં આનંદ કરું છું.
2 There is none holy as the LORD, for there is none beside Thee; neither is there any rock like our God.
૨ત્યાં ઈશ્વર જેવા અન્ય કોઈ પવિત્ર નથી, કેમ કે ત્યાં તેમના સિવાય બીજો કોઈ નથી; ત્યાં અમારા ઈશ્વર જેવો બીજો કોઈ ખડક નથી.
3 Multiply not exceeding proud talk; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth; for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by Him actions are weighed.
૩અતિ ગર્વથી બડાઈ કરશો નહિ; તમારા મુખમાંથી ઘમંડ નીકળે નહિ. કેમ કે પ્રભુ તો ડહાપણના ઈશ્વર છે; તેમનાંથી કાર્યોની તુલના કરાય છે.
4 The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.
૪પરાક્રમી પુરુષોનાં ધનુષ્યો ભાંગી નંખાયા છે, પણ ઠોકર ખાનારાઓ બળથી વેષ્ટિત કરાયા છે.
5 They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry have ceased; while the barren hath borne seven, she that had many children hath languished.
૫જેઓ તૃપ્ત હતા તેઓ રોટલી સારુ મજૂરી કરે છે; જેઓ ભૂખ્યા હતા તેઓ હવે એશ આરામ કરે છે. નિઃસંતાન સ્ત્રીએ સાત બાળકોને જન્મ આપ્યો છે, પણ સ્ત્રીને ઘણાં બાળકો છે તે તડપે છે.
૬ઈશ્વર મારે અને જીવાડે છે. તે શેઓલ સુધી નમાવે છે અને તેમાંથી બહાર કાઢે છે. (Sheol h7585)
7 The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich; He bringeth low, He also lifteth up.
૭ઈશ્વર માણસને નિર્ધન બનાવે છે અને તે ધનવાન પણ કરે છે. તે નીચા પાડે છે અને તે ઊંચે પણ ચઢાવે કરે છે.
8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, He lifteth up the needy from the dung-hill, to make them sit with princes, and inherit the throne of glory; for the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, and He hath set the world upon them.
૮તે ગરીબોને ધૂળમાંથી બેઠા કરે છે; તે જરૂરિયાત મંદોને ઉકરડા પરથી ઊભા કરીને, તેઓને રાજકુમારોની સાથે સિંહાસન પર બેસાડે છે, અને ગૌરવનો વારસો પમાડે છે. કેમ કે પૃથ્વીના સ્તંભો ઈશ્વરના છે; તેમના પર તેમણે જગતને સ્થાપ્યું છે.
9 He will keep the feet of His holy ones, but the wicked shall be put to silence in darkness; for not by strength shall man prevail.
૯તે પોતાના વિશ્વાસુ લોકોના પગનું રક્ષણ કરે છે, પણ દુશ્મનોને અંધકારમાં ચૂપ કરી દેવામાં આવશે, કેમ કે કોઈ બળથી વિજય પામી શકતું નથી.
10 They that strive with the LORD shall be broken to pieces; against them will He thunder in heaven; the LORD will judge the ends of the earth; and He will give strength unto His king, and exalt the horn of His anointed.
૧૦જે કોઈ ઈશ્વરની વિરુદ્ધ થશે તેઓના ટુકડે ટુકડાં કરી નંખાશે; આકાશમાંથી તેઓની સામે તે ગર્જના કરશે. ઈશ્વર પૃથ્વીના છેડાઓ સુધી ન્યાય કરશે; તે પોતાના રાજાને બળ આપશે અને, પોતાના અભિષિક્તનું શિંગ ઊંચું કરશે.”
11 And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest.
૧૧પછી એલ્કાના રામામાં પોતાને ઘરે ગયો. છોકરો એલી યાજકની આગળ ઈશ્વરની સેવા કરતો હતો.
12 Now the sons of Eli were base men; they knew not the LORD.
૧૨હવે એલીના દીકરાઓ દુષ્ટ પુરુષો હતા. તેઓ ઈશ્વરને ઓળખતા નહોતા.
13 And the custom of the priests with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a flesh-hook of three teeth in his band;
૧૩લોકો સાથે યાજકોનો રિવાજ એવો હતો કે જયારે કોઈ માણસ યજ્ઞાર્પણ કરતો અને જયારે માંસ બફાતું હોય ત્યારે યાજકનો ચાકર પોતાના હાથમાં ત્રણ અણીવાળું સાધન લઈને આવતો.
14 and he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the flesh-hook brought up the priest took therewith. So they did unto all the Israelites that came thither in Shiloh.
૧૪તેના ઉપયોગ દ્વારા તવા, કડાઈ, દેગ, ઘડામાંથી જેટલું માંસ બહાર આવતું તે બધું યાજક પોતાને સારુ લેતો. જયારે સર્વ ઇઝરાયલીઓ શીલોમાં આવતા ત્યારે તેઓ આ જ પ્રમાણે કરતા.
15 Yea, before the fat was made to smoke, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed: 'Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.'
૧૫વળી તેઓ ચરબીનું દહન કરે તે અગાઉ, યાજકનો ચાકર ત્યાં આવતો અને જે માણસ યજ્ઞ કરતો હોય તેને કહેતો, “યાજકને માટે શેકવાનું માંસ આપ; કેમ કે તે તારી પાસેથી બાફેલું નહિ, પણ ફક્ત કાચું માંસ સ્વીકારશે.”
16 And if the man said unto him: 'Let the fat be made to smoke first of all, and then take as much as thy soul desireth'; then he would say: 'Nay, but thou shalt give it me now; and if not, I will take it by force.'
૧૬જો તે માણસ તેને એવું કહે, “તેઓને પહેલાં ચરબીનું દહન કરી દેવા દે, પછી તારે જોઈએ તેટલું માંસ લઈ જજે.” તો તે કહેતો કે, “ના, તું મને હમણાં જ આપ; જો નહિ આપે તો હું જબરદસ્તીથી લઈ લઈશ.”
17 And the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD; for the men dealt contemptuously with the offering of the LORD.
૧૭એ જુવાનોનું પાપ ઈશ્વર આગળ ઘણું મોટું હતું, કેમ કે તેઓ ઈશ્વરના અર્પણની અવગણના કરતા હતા.
18 But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.
૧૮શમુએલ બાળપણમાં શણનો એફોદ પહેરીને ઈશ્વરની હજૂરમાં સેવા કરતો હતો.
19 Moreover his mother made him a little robe, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
૧૯જયારે તેની માતા હાન્ના પોતાના પતિ સાથે વાર્ષિક બલિદાન ચઢાવવાને આવતી, ત્યારે તે તેને માટે નાનો ઝભ્ભો બનાવી દર વર્ષે લાવતી.
20 And Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, and say: 'The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which was lent to the LORD.' And they would go unto their own home.
૨૦એલીએ એલ્કાનાને તથા તેની પત્નીને આશીર્વાદ આપીને એલ્કાનાને કહ્યું, “તારી આ પત્ની દ્વારા ઈશ્વર તને અન્ય સંતાનો પણ આપો. કેમ કે તેણે ઈશ્વર સમક્ષ અર્પણ કર્યું છે.” ત્યાર પછી તેઓ પોતાને ઘરે પાછા ગયાં.
21 So the LORD remembered Hannah, and she conceived, and bore three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.
૨૧ઈશ્વરે ફરીથી હાન્ના પર કૃપા કરી અને તે ગર્ભવતી થઈ. તેણે ત્રણ દીકરાઓ અને બે દીકરીઓને જન્મ આપ્યો. તે દરમિયાન, બાળ શમુએલ ઈશ્વરની હજૂરમાં મોટો થતો ગયો.
22 Now Eli was very old; and he heard all that his sons did unto all Israel, and how that they lay with the women that did service at the door of the tent of meeting.
૨૨હવે એલી ઘણો વૃદ્ધ હતો; તેણે સાંભળ્યું કે તેના દીકરાઓ સર્વ ઇઝરાયલ સાથે ખરાબ વર્તન કરતા હતા અને તેઓ મુલાકાતમંડપના દ્વાર આગળ કામ કરનારી સ્ત્રીઓ સાથે કુકર્મ કરતા હતા.
23 And he said unto them: 'Why do ye such things? for I hear evil reports concerning you from all this people.
૨૩તેણે દીકરાઓને કહ્યું, “તમે આવાં કૃત્યો કેમ કરો છો? કેમ કે આ સઘળા લોકો પાસેથી તમારાં દુષ્ટ કર્મો વિષે મને સાંભળવા મળે છે.”
24 Nay, my sons; for it is no good report which I hear the LORD'S people do spread abroad.
૨૪ના, મારા દીકરાઓ; કેમ કે જે વાતો હું સાંભળું છું તે યોગ્ય નથી. તમે લોકો પાસે ઈશ્વરની આજ્ઞાનું ઉલ્લંઘન કરાવો છો.
25 If one man sin against another, God shall judge him; but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall entreat for him?' But they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.
૨૫“જો કોઈ એક માણસ બીજા માણસની વિરુદ્ધ પાપ કરે, તો ઈશ્વર તેનો ન્યાય કરશે; પણ જો કોઈ માણસ ઈશ્વરની વિરુદ્ધ પાપ કરે, તો તેને સારુ કોણ વિનંતી કરે?” પણ તેઓએ પોતાના પિતાની શિખામણ પાળી નહિ, કેમ કે ઈશ્વરે તેઓને મારી નાખવાનો નિર્ણય કર્યો હતો.
26 And the child Samuel grew on, and increased in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.
૨૬બાળ શમુએલ મોટો થતો ગયો અને ઈશ્વરની તથા માણસોની કૃપામાં પણ વધતો ગયો.
27 And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him: 'Thus saith the LORD: Did I reveal Myself unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh's house?
૨૭ઈશ્વરના એક ભક્તે એલી પાસે આવીને તેને કહ્યું, “ઈશ્વર કહે છે, ‘જયારે તમારા પિતૃઓ મિસરમાં ફારુનના ઘરમાં ગુલામીમાં હતા, ત્યારે મેં શું પોતાને તમારા પિતૃઓનાં ઘરનાંઓની સમક્ષ જાહેર કર્યો નહોતો?
28 And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be My priest, to go up unto Mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before Me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings of the children of Israel made by fire?
૨૮મેં તને ઇઝરાયલના સઘળાં કુળોમાંથી મારો યાજક થવા, મારો યજ્ઞવેદી પર યજ્ઞ કરવા, ધૂપ બાળવા, મારી આગળ એફોદ પહેરવા માટે પસંદ કર્યો હતો. શું મેં તારા પિતૃઓના ઘરનાઓને ઇઝરાયલ લોકોને સર્વ અગ્નિથી કરેલ અર્પણ યજ્ઞો આપ્યાં નહોતા?
29 Wherefore kick ye at My sacrifice and at Mine offering, which I have commanded in My habitation; and honourest thy sons above Me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel My people?
૨૯ત્યારે, શા માટે, મારાં જે બલિદાનો અને અર્પણો કરવાની મેં તને આજ્ઞા આપી છે તેનો તિરસ્કાર કરીને જ્યાં હું રહું છું ત્યાં મારા ઇઝરાયલ લોકોનાં સર્વ ઉત્તમ અર્પણોથી પુષ્ટ બનીને તું મારા કરતાં તારા પોતાના દીકરાઓનું માન વધારે કેમ રાખે છે?’
30 Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, saith: I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before Me for ever; but now the LORD saith: Be it far from Me: for them that honour Me I will honour, and they that despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.
૩૦માટે પ્રભુ, ઇઝરાયલના ઈશ્વર, કહે છે, ‘મેં વચન આપ્યું હતું કે તારું ઘર અને તારા પિતૃઓનું ઘર, સદા મારી સમક્ષ ચાલશે.’ પણ હવે ઈશ્વર કહે છે, ‘હું આવું કરીશ નહિ, કેમ કે જેઓ મને માન આપે છે તેઓને હું પણ માન આપીશ, પણ જેઓ મને તુચ્છકારે છે તેઓ હલકા ગણાશે.
31 Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thy house.
૩૧જુઓ, એવા દિવસો આવે છે જયારે હું તારું બળ અને તારા પિતાના ઘરનાનું બળ નષ્ટ કરી નાખીશ, જેથી કરીને તારા ઘરમાં કોઈ માણસ વૃદ્ધ થાય નહિ.
32 And thou shalt behold a rival in My habitation, in all the good which shall be done to Israel; and there shall not be an old man in thy house for ever.
૩૨મારા નિવાસમાં તું વિપત્તિ જોશે. જે સર્વ સમૃદ્ધિ ઇઝરાયલને આપવામાં આવશે તેમાં પણ તારા ઘરમાં સદાને માટે કોઈ માણસ વૃદ્ધ થશે નહિ.
33 Yet will I not cut off every man of thine from Mine altar, to make thine eyes to fail, and thy heart to languish; and all the increase of thy house shall die young men.
૩૩તારા વંશજોમાંનાં એકને હું મારી વેદી પાસેથી કાપી નાખીશ નહિ, તેનું જીવન બચી ગયેલું છે જેના દ્વારા તારા હૃદયની વ્યથા તારી આંખોમાં આંસુ સાથે બહાર આવશે. અને તારા બીજા બધા વંશજો નાની ઉંમરમાં મરણ પામશે.
34 And this shall be the sign unto thee, that which shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they shall die both of them.
૩૪આ તારા માટે ચિહ્નરૂપ થશે કે જે તારા બે દીકરાઓ, હોફની તથા ફીનહાસ પર આવશે તેઓ બન્ને એક જ દિવસે મરણ પામશે.
35 And I will raise Me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in My heart and in My mind; and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before Mine anointed for ever.
૩૫મારા અંતઃકરણ તથા મારા મનમાં જ છે તે પ્રમાણે કરે એવા એક વિશ્વાસુ યાજકને હું મારે સારુ ઊભો કરીશ. હું તેને સારુ એક સ્થિર ઘર બાંધીશ; અને તે સદા મારા અભિષિક્તની સંમુખ ચાલશે.
36 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thy house shall come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread, and shall say: Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a morsel of bread.'
૩૬તારા કુળમાંથી જે તારા બચી ગયા હશે તે બધા આવશે અને તે વ્યક્તિને નમન કરીને ચાંદીના એક સિક્કા અને રોટલીના એક ટુકડાને તેને નમન કરશે અને કહેશે, “કૃપા કરી યાજકને લગતું કંઈ પણ કામ મને આપ જેથી હું રોટલીનો ટુકડો ખાવા પામું.”
