1 Samuel 16
1 And the LORD said unto Samuel: 'How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from being king over Israel? fill thy horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Beth-lehemite; for I have provided Me a king among his sons.'
১পরে সদাপ্রভু শমূয়েলকে বললেন, “তুমি আর কতদিন শৌলের জন্য শোক করবে? আমি তো তাঁকে ইস্রায়েলীয়দের রাজা হিসাবে অগ্রাহ্য করেছি। তুমি তোমার শিঙায় তেল ভর, যাও, আমি তোমাকে বৈৎলেহমীয় যিশয়ের কাছে পাঠাচ্ছি। কারণ তার ছেলেদের মধ্য থেকে আমি আমার জন্য একজন রাজাকে দেখে রেখেছি।”
2 And Samuel said: 'How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me.' And the LORD said: 'Take a heifer with thee, and say: I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.
২শমূয়েল বললেন, “আমি কি করে যাব? শৌল যদি এই কথা শোনে তাহলে আমাকে মেরে ফেলবে।” সদাপ্রভু বললেন, “তুমি একটা বাছুর তোমার সঙ্গে নিয়ে যাও বলবে, সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশ্যে করতে করতে এসেছি।
3 And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will tell thee what thou shalt do; and thou shalt anoint unto Me him whom I name unto thee.'
৩আর যিশয়কে সেই যজ্ঞে নিমন্ত্রণ করবে, তারপরে তোমাকে যা করতে হবে তা আমি বলে দেব এবং আমি তোমার কাছে যার নাম বলব, তুমি তাকেই আমার উদ্দেশ্যে অভিষেক করবে।”
4 And Samuel did that which the LORD spoke, and came to Beth-lehem. And the elders of the city came to meet him trembling, and said: 'Comest thou peaceably?'
৪পরে শমূয়েল সদাপ্রভুর সেই কথামতই কাজ করলেন, তিনি বৈৎলেহমে উপস্থিত হলেন। তখন গ্রামের প্রাচীন নেতারা ভয়ে কাঁপতে কাঁপতে তাঁর সঙ্গে দেখা করতে আসলেন, আর বললেন, “আপনি শান্তিতে এসেছেন তো?”
5 And he said: 'Peaceably; I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD; sanctify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.' And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.
৫তিনি বললেন, “শান্তির সঙ্গেই এসেছি, আমি সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশ্যে যজ্ঞ করতে এসেছি। তোমরা নিজেদের পবিত্র করে আমার সঙ্গে যজ্ঞে এস।” আর তিনি যিশয় ও তাঁর ছেলেদের পবিত্র করে যজ্ঞে নিমন্ত্রণ করলেন।
6 And it came to pass, when they were come, that he beheld Eliab, and said: 'Surely the LORD'S anointed is before Him.'
৬পরে তাঁরা এলে তিনি ইলীয়াবকে দেখে মনে মনে ভাবলেন নিশ্চয়ই সদাপ্রভুর অভিষিক্ত ব্যক্তি তাঁর সামনে এসেছে।
7 But the LORD said unto Samuel: 'Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him; for it is not as man seeth: for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.'
৭কিন্তু সদাপ্রভু শমূয়েলকে বললেন, “তার চেহারা বা সে কতটা লম্বা তা তুমি দেখো না, কারণ আমি তাকে অগ্রাহ্য করেছি। কারণ মানুষ যা দেখে তা কিছু নয়, যেহেতু মানুষ যা দেখতে পায় তাই দেখে কিন্তু সদাপ্রভু হৃদয় দেখেন।”
8 Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said: 'Neither hath the LORD chosen this.'
৮তারপর যিশয় অবীনাদবকে ডেকে শমূয়েলের সামনে দিয়ে যেতে বললেন। শমূয়েল বললেন, “সদাপ্রভু একেও বেছে নেন নি।”
9 Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said: 'Neither hath the LORD chosen this.'
৯পরে যিশয় শম্মকে তাঁর সামনে দিয়ে যেতে বললেন; কিন্তু শমূয়েল বললেন, “সদাপ্রভু একেও বেছে নেন নি।”
10 And Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse: 'The LORD hath not chosen these.'
১০এই ভাবে যিশয় তাঁর সাতটি ছেলেকে শমূয়েলের সামনে দিয়ে যেতে বললেন। পরে শমূয়েল যিশয়কে বললেন, “সদাপ্রভু এদের কাউকেই বেছে নেন নি।”
11 And Samuel said unto Jesse: 'Are here all thy children?' And he said: 'There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep.' And Samuel said unto Jesse: 'Send and fetch him; for we will not sit down till he come hither.'
১১পরে শমূয়েল যিশয়কে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “এরা ছাড়া কি তোমার আর ছেলে নেই?” তিনি বললেন, “সবচেয়ে ছোটটি বাকি আছে; সে ভেড়া চরাচ্ছে।” তখন শমূয়েল বললেন, “লোক পাঠিয়ে তাঁকে ডেকে নিয়ে এস। সে না এলে আমরা খেতে বসব না।”
12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of beautiful eyes, and goodly to look upon. And the LORD said: 'Arise, anoint him; for this is he.'
১২পরে তিনি লোক পাঠিয়ে তাঁকে আনালেন। তাঁর গায়ের রং ছিল লালচে, সুন্দর চোখ দুটো এবং তাঁকে দেখতে সুন্দর ছিল। তখন সদাপ্রভু বললেন, “ওঠ, একেই অভিষেক কর, কারণ এ সেই ব্যক্তি।”
13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren; and the spirit of the LORD came mightily upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
১৩আর শমূয়েল তেলের শিঙা নিয়ে তাঁর ভাইদের মধ্যে তাঁকে অভিষেক করলেন। আর সেই দিন থেকে সদাপ্রভুর আত্মা দায়ূদের উপর এলেন। পরে শমূয়েল উঠে রামায় চলে গেলেন।
14 Now the spirit of the LORD had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD terrified him.
১৪তখন সদাপ্রভুর আত্মা শৌলকে ত্যাগ করে ছিলেন, আর সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকে একটা মন্দ আত্মা এসে তাঁকে কষ্ট দিতে লাগল।
15 And Saul's servants said unto him: 'Behold now, an evil spirit from God terrifieth thee.
১৫তখন শৌলের কর্মচারীরা তাঁকে বলল, “দেখুন ঈশ্বরের কাছ থেকে এক মন্দ আত্মা এসে আপনাকে কষ্ট দিচ্ছে।
16 Let our lord now command thy servants, that are before thee, to seek out a man who is a skilful player on the harp; and it shall be, when the evil spirit from God cometh upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.'
১৬আমাদের প্রভু আদেশ দিন, যেন আপনার সামনে উপস্থিত এই দাসেরা একজন ভাল বীণা বাজাতে পারে এমন লোকের খোঁজ করবে, পরে যখন সেই মন্দ আত্মা ঈশ্বরের কাছ থেকে আপনার উপর আসবে তখন সেই ব্যক্তি হাত দিয়ে বীণা বাজালে আপনি আরাম বোধ করবেন।”
17 And Saul said unto his servants: 'Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.'
১৭তখন শৌল তাঁর দাসদের আদেশ দিলেন, বললেন, “ভাল, তোমরা একজন ভাল বীণা বাজাতে পারে এমন লোকের খোঁজ করে আমার কাছে তাকে নিয়ে এস।”
18 Then answered one of the young men, and said: 'Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Beth-lehemite, that is skilful in playing, and a mighty man of valour, and a man of war, and prudent in affairs, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.'
১৮যুবকদের একজন বলল, “আমি বৈৎলেহমে যিশয়ের এক ছেলেকে দেখেছি; সে ভাল বীণা বাজায়। সে একজন বলবান বীর এবং যোদ্ধা, সে সুন্দর করে কথা বলতে পারে ও দেখতেও সুন্দর, আর সদাপ্রভু তার সঙ্গে আছেন।”
19 Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said: 'Send me David thy son, who is with the sheep.'
১৯পরে শৌল যিশয়ের কাছে দূত পাঠিয়ে বললেন, তোমার ছেলে দায়ূদ, যে ভেড়া চড়াচ্ছে, তাকে আমার কাছে পাঠিয়ে দাও।
20 And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.
২০তখন যিশয় একটা গাধার পিঠে রুটি, এক থলি আঙুর-রস এবং একটা ছাগলের বাচ্চা তার ছেলে দায়ূদকে দিয়ে শৌলের কাছে পাঠিয়ে দিলেন।
21 And David came to Saul, and stood before him; and he loved him greatly; and he became his armour-bearer.
২১পরে দায়ূদ শৌলের কাছে এসে তাঁর সামনে দাঁড়ালে তিনি তাঁকে খুবই ভালবাসতে লাগলেন, আর তিনি তাঁর একজন অস্ত্র বহনকারী হলেন।
22 And Saul sent to Jesse, saying: 'Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.'
২২পরে শৌল যিশয়কে বলে পাঠালেন, “অনুরোধ করি দায়ূদকে আমার সামনে দাঁড়াতে দাও, কারণ সে আমার দৃষ্টিতে অনুগ্রহ পেয়েছে।”
23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took the harp, and played with his hand; so Saul found relief, and it was well with him, and the evil spirit departed from him.
২৩পরে ঈশ্বরের কাছ থেকে যখন সেই মন্দ আত্মা শৌলের কাছে আসত, তখন দায়ূদ বীণা নিয়ে বাজাতেন, তাতে শৌলের ভাল লাগত এবং তিনি শান্তি পেতেন এবং সেই মন্দ আত্মা তাঁকে ছেড়ে চলে যেত।
