1 Samuel 13
1 Saul was — years old when he began to reign; and two years he reigned over Israel.
Kuin Saul oli vuoden ollut kuninkaana, ja hallinnut Israelia kaksi ajastaikaa,
2 And Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel; whereof two thousand were with Saul in Michmas and in the mount of Beth-el, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeath-benjamin; and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent.
Valitsi hän itsellensä kolmetuhatta miestä Israelista: kaksituhatta olivat Saulin kanssa Mikmassa ja BetElin vuorella, mutta tuhannen Jonatanin kanssa BenJaminin Gibeassa, mutta muun joukon päästi hän menemään itsekunkin majoillensa.
3 And Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba, and the Philistines heard of it. And Saul blew the horn throughout all the land, saying: 'Let the Hebrews hear.'
Ja Jonatan löi Philistealaisia heidän leirissänsä, joka oli Gibeassa; ja Philistealaiset saivat sen tietää. Ja Saul antoi soittaa basunalla kaikessa maakunnassa ja sanoa: antakaat Hebrealaisten sen kuulla.
4 And all Israel heard say that Saul had smitten the garrison of the Philistines, and that Israel also had made himself odious with the Philistines. And the people were gathered together after Saul to Gilgal.
Ja kaikki Israel kuuli sanottavan: Saul on lyönyt Philistealaisten leirin; ja Israel myös haisi Philistealaisten edessä, ja kansa kutsuttiin Saulin tykö kokoon Gilgaliin.
5 And the Philistines assembled themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea-shore in multitude; and they came up, and pitched in Michmas, eastward of Beth-aven.
Niin kokoontuivat Philistealaiset sotimaan Israelia vastaan, kolmekymmentä tuhatta vaunua, kuusituhatta ratsasmiestä ja paljo muuta kansaa, niinkuin santaa meren rannalla; ja he matkustivat ylöspäin ja asettivat leirinsä Mikmaan, itään päin BetAvenista.
6 When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait — for the people were distressed — then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in holds, and in pits.
Kuin Israelin miehet näkivät heitänsä ahdistetuksi, sillä kansa oli sangen hämmästyksissä, lymyttivät he heitänsä luoliin, maan kuoppiin, mäen rotkoihin, linnoihin ja kaivoihin;
7 Now some of the Hebrews had gone over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead; but as for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.
Ja Hebrealaiset vaelsivat Jordanin ylitse Gadin ja Gileadin maakuntaan; vaan Saul oli vielä Gilgalissa, ja kaikki kansa, jotka olivat hänen perässänsä, pelkäsivät.
8 And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed; but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.
Niin odotti hän seitsemän päivää, siihen aikaan asti, kun Samuel määrännyt oli. Vaan koska ei Samuel tullutkaan Gilgaliin, rupesi kansa hajoomaan häneltä.
9 And Saul said: 'Bring hither to me the burnt-offering and the peace-offerings.' And he offered the burnt-offering.
Silloin sanoi Saul: tuokaat minulle polttouhria ja kiitosuhria; ja uhrasi polttouhria.
10 And it came to pass that, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt-offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.
Kuin hän oli päättänyt polttouhrin, katso, Samuel tuli; niin Saul meni häntä vastaan siunaamaan häntä.
11 And Samuel said: 'What hast thou done?' And Saul said: 'Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines assembled themselves together against Michmas;
Niin sanoi Samuel: mitäs olet tehnyt? Saul vastasi: minä näin kansan minultani hajoovan, et myös sinä tullut määrättyyn aikaan, ja Philistealaiset olivat Mikmassa koossa,
12 therefore said I: Now will the Philistines come down upon me to Gilgal, and I have not entreated the favour of the LORD; I forced myself therefore, and offered the burnt-offering.'
Niin minä sanoin: nyt tulevat Philistealaiset tänne minun tyköni Gilgaliin, ja en minä rukoillut Herran kasvoin edessä; niin minä rohkaisin itseni ja uhrasin polttouhrin.
13 And Samuel said to Saul: 'Thou hast done foolishly; thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which He commanded thee; for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.
Samuel sanoi Saulille: sinä olet tyhmästi tehnyt, ja et pitänyt Herran sinun Jumalas käskyä, jonka hän käski sinulle; sillä hän oli vahvistanut sinun valtakuntas Israeliin ijankaikkisesti.
14 But now thy kingdom shall not continue; the LORD hath sought him a man after His own heart, and the LORD hath appointed him to be prince over His people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.'
Vaan sinun valtakuntas ei pidä enää oleman seisovainen: Herra on yhden miehen oman sydämensä jälkeen etsinyt, sen on Herra käskenyt olla kansansa päämiehen; sillä et sinä pitänyt sitä, mitä Herra sinulle käski.
15 And Samuel arose, and got him up from Gilgal unto Gibeath-benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were present with him, about six hundred men.
Niin Samuel nousi ja meni Gilgalista pois BenJaminin Gibeaan; niin Saul luki väen, joka hänen tykönänsä oli, liki kuusisataa miestä.
16 And Saul, and Jonathan his son, and the people that were present with them, abode in Gibeath-benjamin; but the Philistines encamped in Michmas.
Ja Saul ja Jonatan hänen poikansa, ja se väki joka heidän tykönänsä oli, jäivät BenJaminin kukkulalle; vaan Philistealaiset asettivat leirinsä Mikmaan.
17 And the spoilers came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies: one company turned unto the way that leadeth to Ophrah, unto the land of Shual;
Philistealaisten leiristä läksi kolme joukkoa maata hävittämään: yksi käänsi itsensä Ophran tielle Sualin maalle,
18 and another company turned the way to Beth-horon; and another company turned the way of the border that looketh down upon the valley of Zeboim toward the wilderness.
Toinen käänsi itsensä BetHoronin tielle ja kolmas käänsi itsensä sille rajatielle, joka menee Seboimin laakson korpeen.
19 Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel; for the Philistines said: 'Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears';
Niin ei löydetty yhtään seppää kaikesta Israelin maakunnasta; sillä Philistealaiset ajattelivat, ettei Hebrealaiset tekisi miekkoja ja keihäitä.
20 but all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, to sharpen every man his plowshare, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock.
Ja kaiken Israelin täytyi mennä Philistealaisten tykö teroittamaan vannastansa, rautalapioitansa, kirvestänsä ja vikahdintansa.
21 And the price of the filing was a pim for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forks with three teeth, and for the axes; and to set the goads.
Mutta heillä oli teroitusrauta vikahtimille, lapioille, hangoille ja kirveille, niin myös ojettaa pistintä.
22 So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan; but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there found.
Kuin tappelupäivä joutui, niin ei löytynyt miekkaa eikä keihästä kaiken kansan kädessä, jotka Saulin ja Jonatanin kanssa olivat, vaan Saulilla ja hänen pojallansa oli.
23 And the garrison of the Philistines went out unto the pass of Michmas.
Ja Philistealaisten leiri läksi Mikman taipaleelle.
