1 Samuel 12
1 And Samuel said unto all Israel: 'Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you.
শমূয়েল ইস্রায়েলের সব লোকজনকে বললেন, “তোমরা আমাকে যা যা বলেছিলে আমি সেসব শুনেছিলাম ও তোমাদের উপর একজন রাজা নিযুক্ত করে দিয়েছিলাম।
2 And now, behold, the king walketh before you; and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you; and I have walked before you from my youth unto this day.
এখন তোমাদের নেতারূপে তোমরা একজন রাজা পেয়ে গিয়েছ। আমার ক্ষেত্রে বলি কি, আমার তো বয়স হয়েছে ও আমার চুলও পেকে গিয়েছে, আর আমার ছেলেরা এখানে তোমাদের সাথেই আছে। আমার যৌবনকাল থেকে আজকের এই দিনটি পর্যন্ত আমি তোমাদের নেতা হয়ে থেকেছি।
3 Here I am; witness against me before the LORD, and before His anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? or whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I taken a ransom to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.'
আমি এখানেই দাঁড়িয়ে আছি। সদাপ্রভু ও তাঁর অভিষিক্ত-জনের উপস্থিতিতে আমার বিরুদ্ধে সাক্ষ্য দিয়ে বলো দেখি: আমি কার বলদ নিয়েছি? কার গাধা নিয়েছি? কাকে ঠকিয়েছি? কার প্রতি অত্যাচার করেছি? কার হাত থেকে ঘুস নিয়ে আমি চোখ বন্ধ করে রেখেছি? যদি আমি এগুলির মধ্যে একটিও করে থাকি, তবে বলো, আমি তার ক্ষতিপূরণ করে দেব।”
4 And they said: 'Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken aught of any man's hand.'
তারা উত্তর দিল, “আপনি আমাদের ঠকাননি বা আমাদের উপর অত্যাচারও করেননি। আপনি কারও হাত থেকে কিছু গ্রহণও করেননি।”
5 And he said unto them: 'The LORD is witness against you, and His anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found aught in my hand.' And they said: 'He is witness.'
শমূয়েল তাদের বললেন, “সদাপ্রভুই তোমাদের বিরুদ্ধে সাক্ষী রইলেন, আর আজ এই দিনে তাঁর অভিষিক্ত-জনও সাক্ষী রইলেন, যে তোমরা আমার হাতে কিছুই পাওনি।” “তিনিই সাক্ষী,” তারা বলল।
6 And Samuel said unto the people: 'It is the LORD that made Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.
তখন শমূয়েল লোকদের বললেন, “সদাপ্রভুই মোশি ও হারোণকে নিযুক্ত করেছিলেন ও তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের মিশর থেকে বের করে নিয়ে এসেছিলেন।
7 Now therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before the LORD concerning all the righteous acts of the LORD, which He did to you and to your fathers.
এখন তাই, এখানে দাঁড়াও, যেহেতু আমি সদাপ্রভুর সামনেই তোমাদের ও তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের জন্য সদাপ্রভুর করা সব ন্যায়নিষ্ঠ কাজের প্রমাণ তোমাদের কাছে তুলে ধরছি।
8 When Jacob was come into Egypt, then your fathers cried unto the LORD, and the LORD sent Moses and Aaron, who brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and they were made to dwell in this place.
“যাকোব মিশরে প্রবেশ করার পর, তারা সাহায্য পাওয়ার আশায় সদাপ্রভুর কাছে আর্তনাদ করেছিল, এবং সদাপ্রভু মোশি ও হারোণকে পাঠিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন। তাঁরা তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের মিশর থেকে বের করে এনে এই স্থানেই তাদের স্থায়ীভাবে বসবাস করার ব্যবস্থা করে দিয়েছিলেন।
9 But they forgot the LORD their God, and He gave them over into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.
“কিন্তু তারা তাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুকে ভুলে গেল; তাই তিনি তাদের হাৎসোরের সৈন্যদলের সেনাপতি সীষরার হাতে এবং ফিলিস্তিনীদের ও মোয়াবের রাজার হাতে বিক্রি করে দিলেন, যারা তাদের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করল।
10 And they cried unto the LORD, and said: We have sinned, because we have forsaken the LORD, and have served the Baalim and the Ashtaroth; but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve Thee.
তারা সদাপ্রভুর কাছে আর্তনাদ করে বলল, ‘আমরা পাপ করেছি; আমরা সদাপ্রভুকে ছেড়ে বায়াল-দেবতাদের ও অষ্টারোৎ দেবীদের পূজার্চনা করেছি। কিন্তু এখন তুমি এই শত্রুদের হাত থেকে আমাদের রক্ষা করো, আর আমরা তোমারই সেবা করব।’
11 And the LORD sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and ye dwelt in safety.
তখন সদাপ্রভু যিরুব্বায়াল, বারক, যিপ্তহ ও শমূয়েলকে পাঠিয়ে দিয়ে তোমাদের চারপাশে ঘিরে থাকা শত্রুদের হাত থেকে তোমাদের রক্ষা করলেন, যেন তোমরা নিরাপদে দেশে বসবাস করতে পারো।
12 And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me: Nay, but a king shall reign over us; when the LORD your God was your king.
“কিন্তু যখন তোমরা দেখলে যে অম্মোনীয়দের রাজা নাহশ তোমাদের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধযাত্রা করছেন, তোমরা আমাকে বললে, ‘না, আমাদের উপর রাজত্ব করার জন্য আমাদের একজন রাজা দরকার,’ যদিও তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুই তোমাদের রাজা হয়ে ছিলেন।
13 Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have asked for; and, behold, the LORD hath set a king over you.
এখন এই তোমাদের সেই রাজা, যাঁকে তোমরা মনোনীত করেছ, যাঁকে তোমরা চেয়েছিলে; দেখো, সদাপ্রভু তোমাদের উপর একজন রাজা নিযুক্ত করেছেন।
14 If ye will fear the LORD, and serve Him, and hearken unto His voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, and both ye and also the king that reigneth over you be followers of the LORD your God —;
যদি তোমরা সদাপ্রভুকে ভয় করো ও তাঁর বাধ্য হয়ে তাঁর সেবা করো এবং তাঁর আদেশগুলির বিরুদ্ধে যদি বিদ্রোহ না করো, তথা তোমরা ও তোমাদের উপর রাজত্বকারী রাজা, উভয়েই যদি তোমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুকে অনুসরণ করো—তবে তো ভালোই!
15 but if ye will not hearken unto the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, and against your fathers.
কিন্তু তোমরা যদি সদাপ্রভুর বাধ্য না হও, ও তোমরা যদি তাঁর আদেশগুলির বিরুদ্ধে বিদ্রোহ করো, তবে তাঁর হাত তোমাদের বিরুদ্ধে উঠবে, যেভাবে তা তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের বিরুদ্ধে উঠেছিল।
16 Now therefore stand still and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes.
“তবে এখন, স্থির হয়ে দাঁড়াও এবং তোমাদের চোখের সামনে সদাপ্রভু যে মহৎ কাজ করতে চলেছেন তা দেখে নাও!
17 Is it not wheat harvest to-day? I will call unto the LORD, that He may send thunder and rain; and ye shall know and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king.'
এখনই কি গম কাটার সময় নয়? আমি সদাপ্রভুকে ডেকে বজ্রবিদ্যুৎ ও বৃষ্টি পাঠাতে বলব। তখনই তোমরা বুঝতে পারবে যে রাজা দাবি করে সদাপ্রভুর দৃষ্টিতে তোমরা কতই না অন্যায় করেছ।”
18 So Samuel called unto the LORD; and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day; and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.
পরে শমূয়েল সদাপ্রভুর কাছে প্রার্থনা করলেন, এবং সেদিনই সদাপ্রভু বজ্রবিদ্যুৎ ও বৃষ্টি পাঠিয়ে দিলেন। তখন সব মানুষজনের মনে সদাপ্রভুর ও শমূয়েলের প্রতি সম্ভ্রম উৎপন্ন হল।
19 And all the people said unto Samuel: 'Pray for thy servants unto the LORD thy God, that we die not; for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king.'
সব মানুষজন শমূয়েলকে বলে উঠল, “আপনার দাসদের জন্য আপনি আপনার ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর কাছে প্রার্থনা করুন, যেন আমরা মারা না পড়ি, কারণ একজন রাজা দাবি করে যে অন্যায় আমরা করেছি, তা আমাদের করা অন্যান্য পাপের সঙ্গেও যুক্ত হয়েছে।”
20 And Samuel said unto the people: 'Fear not; ye have indeed done all this evil; yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart;
শমূয়েল উত্তর দিলেন, “তোমরা ভয় পেয়ো না।” তোমরা এত অন্যায় করেছ; তবু সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকে সরে যেয়ো না, কিন্তু সর্বান্তঃকরণে সদাপ্রভুর সেবা করো।
21 and turn ye not aside; for then should ye go after vain things which cannot profit nor deliver, for they are vain.
অসার প্রতিমাদের দিকে ঘুরে যেয়ো না। সেগুলি তোমাদের মঙ্গলও করতে পারবে না, আর তোমাদের রক্ষাও করতে পারবে না, যেহেতু তারা যে অসার।
22 For the LORD will not forsake His people for His great name's sake; because it hath pleased the LORD to make you a people unto Himself.
সদাপ্রভুর মহৎ নামের খাতিরেই তিনি তাঁর প্রজাদের প্রত্যাখ্যান করবেন না, কারণ সদাপ্রভু তোমাদের তাঁর নিজস্ব প্রজা করতে পেরে খুব খুশি হয়েছেন।
23 Moreover as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you; but I will instruct you in the good and the right way.
আমার ক্ষেত্রে, আমি একথাই বলতে পারি, আমি যেন তোমাদের জন্য প্রার্থনা করতে ব্যর্থ হয়ে সদাপ্রভুর বিরুদ্ধে পাপ করে না বসি। আমি তোমাদের সেই পথ শিক্ষা দেব যা উত্তম ও সঠিক।
24 Only fear the LORD, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider how great things He hath done for you.
কিন্তু নিশ্চিত থেকো, যেন তোমরা সদাপ্রভুকে ভয় কোরো ও সর্বান্তঃকরণে বিশ্বস্ততাপূর্বক তাঁর সেবা কোরো; বিবেচনা কোরো তিনি তোমাদের জন্য কী মহৎ কাজ করেছেন।
25 But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be swept away, both ye and your king.'
তবুও যদি তোমরা অন্যায় করেই যাও, তবে তোমরা ও তোমাদের রাজা, সবাই ধ্বংস হয়ে যাবে।
