1 Kings 19
1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
১এলিয় যা যা করেছেন এবং কেমন করে তরোয়াল দিয়ে সমস্ত ভাববাদীদের মেরে ফেলেছেন তা সবই আহাব ঈষেবলকে বললেন।
2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying: 'So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to-morrow about this time.'
২তাতে ঈষেবল লোক দিয়ে এলিয়কে বলে পাঠালেন, “কাল এই দিনের র মধ্যে তোমার প্রাণের দশা যদি তাদের এক জনের মত না করি, তবে দেবতারা যেন আমাকে শাস্তি দেন আর তা ভীষণভাবেই দেন।”
3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
৩এলিয় তা দেখে উঠলেন এবং প্রাণ বাঁচাবার জন্য পালিয়ে গেলেন। তিনি যিহূদা এলাকার বের-শেবাতে পৌঁছে তাঁর চাকরকে সেখানে রাখলেন,
4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom-tree; and he requested for himself that he might die; and said: 'It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.'
৪কিন্তু তিনি নিজে মরু এলাকার মধ্যে একদিনের র পথ গিয়ে একটা রোতম গাছের নীচে বসলেন এবং নিজের মৃত্যুর জন্য প্রার্থনা করলেন। তিনি বললেন, “হে সদাপ্রভু, এই যথেষ্ট, এখন তুমি আমার প্রাণ নাও; কারণ আমি তো আমার পূর্বপুরুষদের চেয়ে উত্তর নই।”
5 And he lay down and slept under a broom-tree; and, behold, an angel touched him, and said unto him: 'Arise and eat.'
৫তারপর তিনি এক রোতম গাছের তলায় শুয়ে ঘুমিয়ে পড়লেন। হঠাত একজন স্বর্গদূত তাঁকে ছুঁয়ে বললেন, “ওঠ, খাও।”
6 And he looked, and, behold, there was at his head a cake baked on the hot stones, and a cruse of water. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
৬তিনি চেয়ে দেখলেন; তাঁর মাথার কাছে গরম পাথরে সেঁকা একখানা রুটি ও এক পাত্র জল রয়েছে। তা খেয়ে তিনি আবার শুয়ে পড়লেন।
7 And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said: 'Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.'
৭সদাপ্রভুর দূত দ্বিতীয়বার এসে তাঁকে ছুঁয়ে বললেন, “ওঠ, খাও, কারণ তোমার শক্তি থেকেও তোমার পথ বেশি।”
8 And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meal forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
৮তাতে তিনি উঠে খেলেন। সেই খাবার খেয়ে শক্তিলাভ করে তিনি চল্লিশ দিন ও চল্লিশ রাত হেঁটে ঈশ্বরের পাহাড় হোরেবে গিয়ে উপস্থিত হলেন।
9 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and He said unto him: 'What doest thou here, Elijah?'
৯সেখানে একটা গুহার মধ্যে ঢুকে তিনি রাতটা কাটালেন। তারপর, তাঁর কাছে সদাপ্রভুর বাক্য উপস্থিত হল এবং তিনি তাকে বললেন, “এলিয়, তুমি এখানে কি করছ?”
10 And he said: 'I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Thy covenant, thrown down Thine altars, and slain Thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.'
১০এলিয় বললেন, “আমি বাহিনীদের সদাপ্রভুর পক্ষে খুবই আগ্রহী হয়েছি, কারণ ইস্রায়েলীয়েরা তোমার স্থাপন করা ব্যবস্থা ত্যাগ করেছে, তোমার সব বেদী ভেঙে ফেলেছে এবং তরোয়াল দিয়ে তোমার ভাববাদীদের মেরে ফেলেছে। কেবল আমিই বাকি আছি আর আমাকেও এখন তারা মেরে ফেলবার চেষ্টা করছে।”
11 And He said: 'Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD.' And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake;
১১পরে তিনি বললেন, “তুমি বাইরে গিয়ে এই পর্বতের উপরে সদাপ্রভুর সামনে দাঁড়াও।” সদাপ্রভু ওখান দিয়ে যাবেন, আর তাঁর সামনে একটা ভীষণ শক্তিশালী বাতাস পর্বতগুলিকে চিরে দুই ভাগ করল এবং সব পাথর ভেঙে টুকরা টুকরা করল, কিন্তু সেই বাতাসের মধ্যে সদাপ্রভু ছিলেন না। সেই বাতাসের পরে একটা ভূমিকম্প হল, কিন্তু সেই ভূমিকম্পের মধ্যেও সদাপ্রভু ছিলেন না।
12 and after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.
১২ভূমিকম্পের পরে দেখা দিল আগুন, কিন্তু সেই আগুনের মধ্যেও সদাপ্রভু ছিলেন না। সেই আগুনের পরে ফিস্ ফিস্ শব্দের মত সামান্য শব্দ শোনা গেল।
13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said: 'What doest thou here, Elijah?'
১৩এলিয় তা শুনে তাঁর গায়ের চাদর দিয়ে মুখ ঢেকে ফেললেন এবং বাইরে গিয়ে গুহার মুখের কাছে দাঁড়ালেন। তারপর তিনি এই কথা শুনলেন, “এলিয়, তুমি এখানে কি করছ?”
14 And he said: 'I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Thy covenant, thrown down Thine altars, and slain Thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.'
১৪এলিয় বললেন, “আমি বাহিনীদের সদাপ্রভুর পক্ষে খুবই আগ্রহী হয়েছি, কারণ ইস্রায়েলীয়েরা তোমার স্থাপন করা ব্যবস্থা ত্যাগ করেছে, তোমার সব যজ্ঞবেদী ভেঙে ফেলেছে এবং তোমার ভাববাদীদের মেরে ফেলেছে। কেবল আমিই বাকি আছি আর আমাকেও এখন তারা মেরে ফেলবার চেষ্টা করছে।”
15 And the LORD said unto him: 'Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus; and when thou comest, thou shalt anoint Hazael to be king over Aram;
১৫তখন সদাপ্রভু তাঁকে বললেন, “যাও, তুমি যে পথে এসেছ সেই পথে ফিরে গিয়ে দম্মেশকের মরু এলাকায় যাও। সেখানে পৌঁছে তুমি হসায়েলকে অরামের উপরে রাজপদে অভিষেক কর।
16 and Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel; and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.
১৬এছাড়া নিম্শির ছেলে যেহূকে ইস্রায়েলের রাজার পদে অভিষেক কর, আর তোমার পদে ভাববাদী হওয়ার জন্য আবেলমহোলার শাফটের ছেলে ইলীশায়কে অভিষেক কর।
17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth from the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay; and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
১৭হসায়েলের তলোয়ার যারা এড়িয়ে যাবে যেহূ তাদের মেরে ফেলবে আর যেহূর তলোয়ার যারা এড়িয়ে যাবে ইলীশায় তাদের মেরে ফেলবে।
18 Yet will I leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.'
১৮কিন্তু ইস্রায়েলে আমি আমার জন্য সাত হাজার লোককে রেখে দেব যারা বাল দেবতার সামনে হাঁটু পাতেনি ও সেই সবার মুখ তাকে চুম্বনও করে নি।”
19 So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing, with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth; and Elijah passed over unto him, and cast his mantle upon him.
১৯পরে তিনি সেখান থেকে চলে গিয়ে শাফটের ছেলে ইলীশায়ের দেখা পেলেন; সেই দিন তিনি বারো জোড়া বলদ দিয়ে জমি চাষ করছিলেন এবং তিনি নিজে শেষ জোড়ার সঙ্গে ছিলেন। এলিয় তাঁর কাছে গিয়ে নিজের গায়ের চাদরখানা তাঁর গায়ে ফেলে দিলেন।
20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said: 'Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee.' And he said unto him: 'Go back; for what have I done to thee?'
২০ইলীশায় তখন তাঁর বলদ ফেলে এলিয়ের পিছনে পিছনে দৌড়ে গেলেন। ইলীশায় বললেন, “মিনতি করি, আমাকে আমার মা বাবাকে চুম্বন করে আসতে দিন। তারপর আমি আপনার সঙ্গে যাব।” উত্তরে এলিয় বললেন, “ফিরে যাও, কিন্তু আমি তোমার কি করলাম?”
21 And he returned from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.
২১পরে ইলীশায় তাঁকে ছেড়ে ফিরে গেলেন। তিনি তাঁর বলদ জোড়া নিয়ে বলি দিলেন এবং যোঁয়ালির কাঠ দিয়ে মাংস রান্না করে লোকদের দিলেন আর লোকেরা তা খেল। তারপর তিনি এলিয়ের সঙ্গে যাবার জন্য বের হলেন এবং তাঁর সেবাকারী হলেন।
