1 Kings 18
1 And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah, in the third year, saying: 'Go, show thyself unto Ahab, and I will send rain upon the land.'
Und nach langer Zeit, im dritten Jahre, erging das Wort des HERRN an Elia also: Gehe hin, zeige dich Ahab, damit ich regen lasse auf den Erdboden.
2 And Elijah went to show himself unto Ahab. And the famine was sore in Samaria.
Und Elia ging hin, um sich Ahab zu zeigen. Es war aber eine große Hungersnot zu Samaria.
3 And Ahab called Obadiah, who was over the household. — Now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly;
Und Ahab rief Obadja, seinen Hofmeister. Obadja aber fürchtete den HERRN sehr.
4 for it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water. —
Denn als Isebel die Propheten des HERRN ausrottete, nahm Obadja hundert Propheten und verbarg sie in den Höhlen, hier fünfzig und dort fünfzig, und versorgte sie mit Brot und Wasser.
5 And Ahab said unto Obadiah: 'Go through the land, unto all the springs of water, and unto all the brooks; peradventure we may find grass and save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the beasts.'
So sprach nun Ahab zu Obadja: Ziehe durch das Land, zu allen Wasserbrunnen und zu allen Bächen; vielleicht finden wir Gras, um die Pferde und Maultiere am Leben zu erhalten, daß nicht alles Vieh umkomme!
6 So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.
Und sie teilten das Land unter sich, um es zu durchziehen. Ahab zog allein auf einem Wege und Obadja auch allein auf einem andern Weg.
7 And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him; and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said: 'Is it thou, my lord Elijah?'
Als nun Obadja auf dem Wege war, siehe, da begegnete ihm Elia. Und als er ihn erkannte, fiel er auf sein Angesicht und sprach: Bist du nicht mein Herr Elia?
8 And he answered him: 'It is I; go, tell thy lord: Behold, Elijah is here.'
Er sprach zu ihm: Doch! Gehe hin und sage deinem Herrn: Siehe, Elia ist hier!
9 And he said: 'Wherein have I sinned, that thou wouldest deliver thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me?
Er aber sprach: Was habe ich gesündigt, daß du deinen Knecht in die Hand Ahabs geben willst, daß er mich töte?
10 As the LORD thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee; and when they said: He is not here, he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not.
So wahr der HERR, dein Gott, lebt, es gibt kein Volk noch Königreich, dahin mein Herr nicht gesandt hätte, dich zu suchen. Und wenn sie sprachen: «Er ist nicht hier», nahm er einen Eid von jenem Königreich und von jenem Volk, daß man dich nicht gefunden habe.
11 And now thou sayest: Go, tell thy lord: Behold, Elijah is here.
Und du sprichst nun: Gehe hin, sage deinem Herrn: Siehe, Elia ist hier!
12 And it will come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the spirit of the LORD will carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he will slay me; but I thy servant fear the LORD from my youth.
Wenn ich nun von dir ginge, so würde dich der Geist des HERRN hinwegnehmen, ich weiß nicht wohin; und wenn ich dann käme und es Ahab sagte, und er fände dich nicht, so würde er mich töten; und doch fürchtet dein Knecht den HERRN von Jugend auf!
13 Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the LORD, how I hid a hundred men of the LORD'S prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?
Ist meinem HERRN nicht gesagt worden, was ich getan habe, als Isebel die Propheten des HERRN tötete, daß ich von den Propheten des HERRN hundert verbarg, hier fünfzig und dort fünfzig, in Höhlen, und sie mit Brot und Wasser versorgte?
14 And now thou sayest: Go, tell thy lord: Behold, Elijah is here; and he will slay me.'
Und du sprichst nun: Gehe hin, sage deinem Herrn: Siehe, Elia ist hier! Er würde mich ja töten!
15 And Elijah said: 'As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely show myself unto him to-day.'
Elia sprach: So wahr der HERR der Heerscharen lebt, vor dem ich stehe, ich will mich ihm heute zeigen!
16 So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him; and Ahab went to meet Elijah.
Da ging Obadja hin, Ahab entgegen, und sagte es ihm; Ahab aber kam Elia entgegen.
17 And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him: 'Is it thou, thou troubler of Israel?'
Und als Ahab den Elia sah, sprach Ahab zu ihm: Bist du da, der Israel ins Unglück bringt?
18 And he answered: 'I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed the Baalim.
Er aber sprach: Nicht ich bringe Israel ins Unglück, sondern du und deines Vaters Haus, weil ihr die Gebote des HERRN verlassen habt und den Baalen nachwandelt!
19 Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the Asherah four hundred, that eat at Jezebel's table.'
Wohlan, so sende nun hin und versammle zu mir ganz Israel auf den Berg Karmel, dazu die 450 Propheten des Baal und die 400 Propheten der Aschera, die am Tische der Isebel essen!
20 And Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.
Also sandte Ahab hin unter alle Kinder Israel und versammelte die Propheten auf dem Karmel.
21 And Elijah came near unto all the people, and said: 'How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.' And the people answered him not a word.
Da trat Elia zu allem Volk und sprach: Wie lange hinket ihr nach beiden Seiten? Ist der HERR Gott, so folget ihm nach, ist es aber Baal, so folget ihm! Und das Volk antwortete ihm nichts.
22 Then said Elijah unto the people: 'I, even I only, am left a prophet of the LORD; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men.
Da sprach Elia zum Volk: Ich bin allein übriggeblieben als Prophet des HERRN, der Propheten Baals aber sind 450 Mann.
23 Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire under; and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire under.
So gebt uns nun zwei Farren und lasset sie den einen Farren erwählen und ihn zerstücken und auf das Holz legen und kein Feuer daran legen; so will ich den andern Farren zurichten und auf das Holz legen und auch kein Feuer daran legen.
24 And call ye on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD; and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God.' And all the people answered and said: 'It is well spoken.'
Dann rufet ihr den Namen eures Gottes an, und ich will den Namen des HERRN anrufen. Welcher Gott mit Feuer antworten wird, der sei Gott! Da antwortete das ganze Volk und sprach: Das Wort ist gut!
25 And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal: 'Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your god, but put no fire under.'
Und Elia sprach zu den Propheten Baals: Erwählet euch den einen Farren und bereitet ihn zuerst zu, denn euer sind viele, und rufet den Namen eures Gottes an und leget kein Feuer daran!
26 And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying: 'O Baal, answer us.' But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they danced in halting wise about the altar which was made.
Und sie nahmen den Farren, den er ihnen gab, und richteten ihn zu und riefen den Namen Baals an vom Morgen bis zum Mittag und sprachen: O Baal, erhöre uns! Aber da war keine Stimme noch Antwort. Und sie hüpften um den Altar, den man gemacht hatte.
27 And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said: 'Cry aloud; for he is a god; either he is musing, or he is gone aside, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.'
Als es nun Mittag war, spottete Elia ihrer und sprach: Rufet laut! denn er ist ja ein Gott; vielleicht denkt er nach oder hat zu schaffen oder ist auf Reisen oder schläft vielleicht und wird aufwachen!
28 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with swords and lances, till the blood gushed out upon them.
Und sie riefen laut und machten Einschnitte nach ihrer Weise mit Schwertern und Spießen, bis das Blut über sie floß.
29 And it was so, when midday was past, that they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening offering; but their was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.
Als aber der Mittag vergangen war, weissagten sie, bis es Zeit war, das Speisopfer darzubringen; aber da war keine Stimme noch Antwort noch Aufmerken.
30 And Elijah said unto all the people: 'Come near unto me'; and all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was thrown down.
Da sprach Elia zu allem Volk: Tretet heran zu mir! Als nun alles Volk zu ihm trat, stellte er den Altar des HERRN, der zerbrochen war, wieder her.
31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying: 'Israel shall be thy name.'
Und Elia nahm zwölf Steine, nach der Zahl der Stämme der Kinder Jakobs, an welchen das Wort des HERRN also ergangen war: Du sollst Israel heißen!
32 And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD; and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.
Und er baute von den Steinen einen Altar im Namen des HERRN und machte um den Altar her einen Graben von der Tiefe eines Getreidedoppelmaßes;
33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid it on the wood.
und er richtete das Holz zu und zerstückte den Farren und legte ihn auf das Holz und sprach:
34 And he said: 'Fill four jars with water, and pour it on the burnt-offering, and on the wood.' And he said: 'Do it the second time'; and they did it the second time. And he said: 'Do it the third time'; and they did it the third time.
Füllet vier Krüge mit Wasser und gießet es auf das Brandopfer und auf das Holz! Und er sprach: Tut es noch einmal! Und sie taten es noch einmal. Und er sprach: Tut es zum drittenmal! Und sie taten es zum drittenmal.
35 And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.
Und das Wasser lief um den Altar her, und der Graben ward auch voll Wasser.
36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening offering, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said: 'O LORD, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that Thou art God in Israel, and that I am Thy servant, and that I have done all these things at Thy word.
Und um die Zeit, da man das Speisopfer darbringt, trat der Prophet Elia herzu und sprach: O HERR, Gott Abrahams, Isaaks und Israels, laß heute kund werden, daß du Gott in Israel bist und ich dein Knecht und daß ich solches alles nach deinem Wort getan habe!
37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that Thou, LORD, art God, for Thou didst turn their heart backward.'
Erhöre mich, o HERR, erhöre mich, daß dieses Volk erkenne, daß du, HERR, Gott bist, und daß du ihr Herz herumgewendet hast!
38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
Da fiel das Feuer des HERRN herab und fraß das Brandopfer und das Holz und die Steine und die Erde; und es leckte das Wasser auf in dem Graben.
39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said: 'The LORD, He is God; the LORD, He is God.'
Als alles Volk solches sah, fielen sie auf ihr Angesicht und sprachen: Der HERR ist Gott! der HERR ist Gott!
40 And Elijah said unto them: 'Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape.' And they took them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.
Elia aber sprach zu ihnen: Fanget die Propheten Baals, daß ihrer keiner entrinne! Und sie fingen sie. Und Elia führte sie hinab an den Bach Kison und schlachtete sie daselbst.
41 And Elijah said unto Ahab: 'Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.'
Und Elia sprach zu Ahab: Ziehe hinauf, iß und trink, denn es rauscht, als wolle es reichlich regnen!
42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bowed himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees.
Und als Ahab hinaufzog, um zu essen und zu trinken, ging Elia auf die Spitze des Karmel und beugte sich zur Erde und tat sein Angesicht zwischen seine Knie
43 And he said to his servant: 'Go up now, look toward the sea.' And he went up, and looked, and said: 'There is nothing.' And he said: 'Go again seven times.'
und sprach zu seinem Knaben: Gehe doch hinauf und siehe nach dem Meere hin! Da ging er hinauf und schaute hin und sprach: Es ist nichts da! Er sprach: Gehe wieder hin, siebenmal!
44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said: 'Behold, there ariseth a cloud out of the sea, as small as a man's hand.' And he said: 'Go up, say unto Ahab: Make ready thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.'
Und beim siebenten Mal sprach er: Siehe, es steigt eine kleine Wolke aus dem Meere auf, wie eines Mannes Hand. Er sprach: Gehe hin und sage zu Ahab: Spanne an und fahre hinab, daß dich der Regen nicht zurückhalte!
45 And it came to pass in a little while, that the heaven grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.
Und ehe man zusah, ward der Himmel schwarz von Wolken und Wind, und es kam ein gewaltiger Regen. Ahab aber stieg auf und fuhr nach Jesreel.
46 And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.
Und die Hand des HERRN kam über Elia; und er gürtete seine Lenden und lief vor Ahab her bis gen Jesreel.
