1 Kings 14
1 At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick.
En ce temps-là, Ahiyya, fils de Jéroboam, tomba malade.
2 And Jeroboam said to his wife: 'Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself, that thou be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get thee to Shiloh; behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, who spoke concerning me that I should be king over this people.
Jéroboam dit à sa femme: "Va, je te prie, et déguise-toi, afin qu’on ne sache pas que tu es la femme de Jéroboam; tu te rendras à Silo, où demeure le prophète Ahiyya, celui qui a prédit que je régnerais sur ce peuple.
3 And take with thee ten loaves, and biscuits, and a cruse of honey, and go to him; he will tell thee what shall become of the child.'
Tu emporteras dix pains, des gâteaux et un pot de miel; tu te présenteras à lui, et il t’apprendra ce qui doit advenir de l’enfant."
4 And Jeroboam's wife did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. Now Ahijah could not see; for his eyes were set by reason of his age.
Se conformant à cette parole, la femme de Jéroboam s’en alla à Silo et pénétra dans la maison d’Ahiyya. Or, celui-ci ne pouvait la voir, car la vieillesse avait paralysé ses yeux.
5 Now the LORD had said unto Ahijah: 'Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to inquire of thee concerning her son; for he is sick; thus and thus shalt thou say unto her; for it will be, when she cometh in, that she will feign herself to be another woman.'
Mais le Seigneur avait dit à Ahiyya: "La femme de Jéroboam va venir te consulter au sujet de son enfant malade; tu lui parleras de telle et telle façon; mais en t’abordant, elle se donnera comme étrangère."
6 And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said: 'Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam; why feignest thou thyself to be another? for I am sent to thee with heavy tidings.
En entendant le bruit de ses pas lorsqu’elle franchissait le seuil, Ahiyya lui dit: "Entre, épouse de Jéroboam! Pourquoi le déguiser? J’Ai reçu pour toi un message sévère.
7 Go, tell Jeroboam: Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: Forasmuch as I exalted thee from among the people, and made thee prince over My people Israel,
Va dire à Jéroboam: Ainsi parle l’Eternel, Dieu d’Israël: Je t’avais élevé du milieu du peuple, je t’avais fait chef de mon peuple Israël;
8 and rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it thee; and yet thou hast not been as My servant David, who kept My commandments, and who followed Me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in Mine eyes;
j’avais arraché la royauté à la maison de David pour te l’octroyer à toi; mais tu n’as pas été comme mon serviteur David, qui a gardé mes commandements, qui m’a obéi de tout son cœur en faisant uniquement ce qui est droit à mes yeux.
9 but hast done evil above all that were before thee, and hast gone and made thee other gods, and molten images, to provoke Me, and hast cast Me behind thy back;
Surpassant en perversité tous tes devanciers, tu t’es fait des dieux étrangers et des idoles de métal, pour m’outrager, et tu m’as rejeté bien loin de toi!
10 therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam every man-child, and him that is shut up and him that is left at large in Israel, and will utterly sweep away the house of Jeroboam, as a man sweepeth away dung, till it be all gone.
C’Est pourquoi je susciterai le malheur à la maison de Jéroboam; je n’en épargnerai pas la plus infime créature, je ne lui laisserai ni retraite ni ressource en Israël, et je balaierai les derniers vestiges de la maison de Jéroboam comme on balaie à fond les ordures.
11 Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat; for the LORD hath spoken it.
Ceux de Jéroboam qui mourront dans la ville seront dévorés par les chiens, et ceux qui mourront dans les campagnes seront la proie des oiseaux de l’air: c’est l’Eternel qui l’a dit.
12 Arise thou therefore, get thee to thy house; and when thy feet enter into the city, the child shall die.
Pour toi, va, retourne en ta demeure; à ton premier pas dans la ville, l’enfant mourra.
13 And all Israel shall make lamentation for him, and bury him; for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave; because in him there is found some good thing toward the LORD, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.
Tout Israël mènera son deuil quand on l’ensevelira, car, seul de la maison de Jéroboam, il aura une sépulture, parce que l’Eternel, Dieu d’Israël, l’en a trouvé seul digne dans cette famille.
14 Moreover the LORD will raise Him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam that day. But what is it even then?
Mais l’Eternel suscitera un roi d’Israël qui anéantira la maison de Jéroboam ce même jour, que dis-je? dès aujourd’hui.
15 for the LORD will smite Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water; and He will root up Israel out of this good land, which He gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River; because they have made their Asherim, provoking the LORD.
L’Eternel frappera Israël, comme le roseau est ballotté dans l’eau; il arrachera Israël de ce beau pays qu’il a donné à leurs pères, il les dispersera par delà le fleuve, parce qu’ils ont, avec leurs achêrot, irrité le Seigneur.
16 And He will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he hath sinned, and wherewith he hath made Israel to sin.'
Il traitera ainsi Israël, à cause des méfaits de Jéroboam, qu’il a commis et qu’il a fait commettre à Israël."
17 And Jeroboam's wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah; and as she came to the threshold of the house, the child died.
Là-dessus, la femme de Jéroboam se retira et se rendit à Tirça. Comme elle atteignit le seuil de la maison, le jeune garçon mourut.
18 And all Israel buried him, and made lamentation for him; according to the word of the LORD, which He spoke by the hand of His servant Ahijah the prophet.
On l’ensevelit, et tout Israël mena son deuil, selon la parole du Seigneur, transmise par son serviteur, le prophète Ahiyya.
19 And the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.
Pour les autres faits concernant Jéroboam, ses guerres et son règne, ils sont consignés dans le livre des annales des rois d’Israël.
20 And the days which Jeroboam reigned were two and twenty years; and he slept with his fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his stead.
La durée du règne de Jéroboam fut de vingt-deux ans; après quoi, il s’endormit avec ses pères, et son fils Nadab lui succéda.
21 And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put His name there; and his mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess.
Roboam, fils de Salomon, fut roi de Juda. Il avait quarante et un ans à son avènement, et il régna dix-sept ans à Jérusalem, la ville que le Seigneur avait choisie entre toutes les tribus d’Israël pour y faire dominer son nom. Sa mère se nommait Naama; elle était ammonite.
22 And Judah did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD; and they moved Him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, above all that their fathers had done.
Les Judaïtes firent ce qui déplaît au Seigneur, et ils l’irritèrent plus que n’avaient jamais fait leurs pères, par les péchés qu’ils commirent.
23 For they also built them high places, and pillars, and Asherim, on every high hill, and under every leafy tree;
Ils érigèrent, eux aussi, des hauts-lieux, des monuments et des statues d’Astarté, sur toute colline élevée et sous tout arbre touffu.
24 and there were also sodomites in the land; they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD drove out before the children of Israel.
Il y eut même des prostitués dans le pays, où l’on imita toutes les abominations des peuples que le Seigneur avait dépossédés en faveur des enfants d’Israël.
25 And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem;
Dans la cinquième année du règne de Roboam, Sésak, roi d’Egypte, vint attaquer Jérusalem.
26 and he took away the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king's house; he even took away all; and he took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
Il s’empara des trésors de la maison de Dieu, et de ceux de la maison du roi, et emporta le tout. Il enleva aussi tous les boucliers d’or qu’avait fait faire Salomon.
27 And king Rehoboam made in their stead shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who kept the door of the king's house.
Le roi Roboam les remplaça par des boucliers de cuivre, dont il confia la garde aux chefs des coureurs chargés de surveiller l’entrée du palais.
28 And it was so, that as oft as the king went into the house of the LORD, the guard bore them, and brought them back into the guard-chamber.
Chaque fois que le roi se rendait à la maison de Dieu, les coureurs portaient ces boucliers, puis les replaçaient dans leur salle de service.
29 Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
Pour le reste de l’histoire et des faits et gestes de Roboam, ils sont consignés dans le livre des annales des rois de Juda.
30 And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.
Roboam et Jéroboam furent constamment en guerre.
31 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and his mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess. And Abijam his son reigned in his stead.
Roboam s’endormit avec ses pères et fut enterré auprès d’eux dans la Cité de David. Sa mère, une Ammonite, s’appelait Naama. Il eut pour successeur son fils Abiam.
