1 Chronicles 17

1 And it came to pass, when David dwelt in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet: 'Lo, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD dwelleth under curtains.'

Et comme David habitait son palais, David dit à Nathan, le prophète: Voici que je réside dans un palais de cèdre, et l'Arche d'alliance de l'Éternel est sous des toiles.

2 And Nathan said unto David: 'Do all that is in thy heart; for God is with thee.'

Et Nathan dit à David: Exécute tout ce que tu as dans le cœur, car Dieu est avec toi.

3 And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying:

Mais cette nuit même la parole de Dieu fut adressée à Nathan en ces termes:

4 'Go and tell David My servant: Thus saith the LORD: Thou shalt not build Me a house to dwell in;

Va et dis à David, mon serviteur: Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Ce n'est pas toi qui me bâtiras le Temple pour ma résidence.

5 for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel, unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.

Car je n'ai pas eu de temple pour résidence depuis le jour où j'ai retiré Israël jusqu'aujourd'hui, et j'ai été de tente en tente et de résidence en résidence.

6 In all places wherein I have walked among all Israel, spoke I a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed My people, saying: Why have ye not built Me a house of cedar?

Pendant toute la période de mes migrations, au milieu de tout Israël, est-ce que j'ai adressé une parole à l'un des juges d'Israël à qui j'avais commandé d'être le pasteur de mon peuple et dit: Pourquoi ne me bâtissez-vous pas un temple de cèdre?

7 Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto My servant David: Thus saith the LORD of hosts: I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over My people Israel;

Or, ainsi parle à mon serviteur, à David: Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées: Je t'ai pris au pâturage derrière le troupeau pour te faire prince de mon peuple d'Israël,

8 and I have been with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth.

et j'ai été avec toi partout où tu as porté tes pas, et taillé en pièces tous tes ennemis devant toi, et t'ai fait un nom égal au nom des grands sur la terre,

9 And I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be disquieted no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the first,

et je donnerai un lieu fixe à mon peuple d'Israël et je le planterai pour qu'il ait une demeure stable et ne soit plus agité, et que les pervers ne le dévorent plus comme dans l'origine

10 even from the day that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel; and I will subdue all thine enemies. Moreover I tell thee that the LORD will build thee a house.

et depuis le temps que je préposai des Juges sur mon peuple d'Israël, et j'abaisserai tous tes ennemis, et je t'ai annoncé que l'Éternel t'élèvera une maison.

11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days are fulfilled that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will set up thy seed after thee, who shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.

Et lorsque tes jours seront au complet pour joindre tes pères, j'élèverai ta race après toi, l'un de toi et je consoliderai son empire.

12 He shall build Me a house, and I will establish his throne for ever.

C'est lui qui me bâtira un temple, et je consoliderai son trône pour l'éternité.

13 I will be to him for a father, and he shall be to Me for a son; and I will not take My mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee;

Je serai pour lui un père et il sera pour moi un fils et je ne lui retirerai pas ma grâce, comme je l'ai retirée à ton prédécesseur,

14 but I will settle him in My house and in My kingdom for ever; and his throne shall be established for ever.'

mais je l'affermirai dans ma maison et mon royaume pour l'éternité, et son trône sera stable éternellement.

15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

Nathan rendit à David la totalité de ces paroles et de cette révélation.

16 Then David the king went in, and sat before the LORD; and he said: 'Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my house, that Thou hast brought me thus far?

Alors le roi David entra et se plaça en la présence de l'Éternel et dit: Éternel, Dieu, qui suis-je et qu'est ma maison, que tu m'aies fait parvenir à ce point?

17 And this was a small thing in Thine eyes, O God; but Thou hast spoken of Thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me after the manner of a man of high degree, O LORD God.

Et cependant, ô Dieu, à tes yeux c'était peu, et tu parles au sujet de la maison de ton serviteur pour un temps éloigné et tu m'as fait voir la série des hommes jusques au haut, Éternel, Dieu!…

18 What can David say yet more unto Thee concerning the honour which is done to Thy servant? for Thou knowest Thy servant.

Qu'aurait encore David à te dire de plus de l'honneur accordé à ton serviteur? Tu connais ton serviteur!…

19 O LORD, for Thy servant's sake, and according to Thine own heart, hast Thou wrought all this greatness, to make known all these great things.

Éternel! c'est en vue de lui et selon ton amour que tu as opéré toute cette magnificence pour manifester toutes les grandeurs.

20 O LORD, there is none like Thee, neither is there any God beside Thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

Éternel, nul n'est comme toi, et il n'est point de Dieu que toi, d'après tout ce que nous avons ouï de nos oreilles.

21 And who is like Thy people Israel, a nation one in the earth, whom God went to redeem unto Himself for a people, to make Thee a name by great and tremendous things, in driving out nations from before Thy people, whom Thou didst redeem out of Egypt.

Et où est sur la terre une nation comme ton peuple d'Israël, que Dieu soit venu se racheter pour en faire son peuple, et t'acquérir un nom, et opérer des actes grands et terribles en expulsant les nations devant ton peuple que tu avais racheté de l'Egypte?

22 For Thy people Israel didst Thou make Thine own people for ever; and Thou, LORD, becamest their God.

Ainsi, tu t'es donné ton peuple d'Israël pour être ton peuple à jamais, et toi, Éternel, tu es devenu leur Dieu.

23 And now, O LORD, let the word that Thou hast spoken concerning Thy servant, and concerning his house, be established for ever, and do as Thou hast spoken.

Maintenant donc, Éternel, que la parole que tu as prononcée sur ton serviteur et sa maison, soit vraie éternellement, et fais comme tu as dit!

24 Yea, let it be established, and let Thy name be magnified for ever, that it may be said: The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel; and the house of David Thy servant shall be established before Thee.

Et que ton Nom se justifie et grandisse éternellement afin que l'on dise: L'Éternel des armées est Dieu d'Israël, un Dieu pour Israël, et la maison de David, ton serviteur, est stable devant toi.

25 For Thou, O my God, hast revealed to Thy servant that Thou wilt build him a house; therefore hath Thy servant taken heart to pray before Thee.

Car toi-même, ô mon Dieu, tu as révélé à ton serviteur que tu lui élèveras une maison; c'est pourquoi ton serviteur ose te présenter sa prière.

26 And now, O LORD, Thou alone art God, and hast promised this good thing unto Thy servant;

Or, c'est toi, Éternel, qui es Dieu, et tu as fait à ton serviteur cette excellente promesse:

27 and now it hath pleased Thee to bless the house of Thy servant, that it may continue for ever before Thee; for Thou, O LORD, hast blessed, and so let Thy servant be blessed for ever.'

qu'il te plaise donc bénir la maison de ton serviteur, afin qu'elle subsiste éternellement devant toi, car c'est toi, Éternel, qui bénis, et par toi on est éternellement béni.
