Romans 13

1 LET every soul be subject to the superior powers: for there is no power but from God; the existing powers are appointed by God.

ഓരോ വ്യക്തിയും ഭരണാധികാരികൾക്കു വിധേയരാകുക. കാരണം, ദൈവത്താൽ നിയോഗിക്കപ്പെടാത്ത അധികാരി ഒരാൾപോലുമില്ല. ഇപ്പോഴുള്ള ഭരണാധികാരികളും ദൈവത്താൽ നിയമിക്കപ്പെട്ടവരാണ്.

2 Wherefore he that sets himself against authority, resists the ordinance of God: and they who resist shall receive to themselves condemnation.

അതുകൊണ്ട്, അധികാരത്തെ എതിർക്കുന്നവൻ ദൈവം ഏർപ്പെടുത്തിയ സംവിധാനത്തെയാണ് എതിർക്കുന്നത്. അങ്ങനെചെയ്യുന്നവർ സ്വയം ശിക്ഷായോഗ്യരായിത്തീരും.

3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? Do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise from it:

ഭരണാധികാരികളെ ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടത് നന്മ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നവരല്ല; മറിച്ച്, തിന്മ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നവരാണ്. അധികാരികളെ ഭയപ്പെടാതെ ജീവിക്കാൻ നിനക്ക് ആഗ്രഹമുണ്ടോ? എങ്കിൽ നന്മ ചെയ്യുക. അപ്പോൾ അധികാരികളിൽനിന്ന് നിനക്ക് അഭിനന്ദനം ലഭിക്കും.

4 for he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou doest that which is evil, tremble! for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, an avenger to inflict wrath on him that practises what is evil.

നിന്റെ നന്മ ലക്ഷ്യമാക്കി പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന ദൈവസേവകനാണ് അദ്ദേഹം. എന്നാൽ, നീ തിന്മ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു എങ്കിൽ ഭയപ്പെടുകതന്നെ വേണം. ശിക്ഷിക്കാൻ അയാൾക്ക് അധികാരം നൽകപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത് വെറുതേയല്ലല്ലോ! തിന്മ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നവർക്കെതിരേ ജ്വലിക്കുന്ന ദൈവക്രോധം ശിക്ഷയിലൂടെ നടപ്പാക്കാൻ ദൈവം നിയോഗിച്ച ഭൃത്യനാണയാൾ.

5 Wherefore there is a necessity for being in subjection, not only for fear of wrath, but also for conscience sake.

ശിക്ഷ ലഭിക്കുമെന്ന ഭയംകൊണ്ടുമാത്രമല്ല, ശുദ്ധമനസ്സാക്ഷി ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കേണ്ടതിനുംകൂടിയാണ് അധികാരികളോട് വിധേയത്വം പുലർത്തേണ്ടത്.

6 For on this account pay ye taxes also: for they are God’s ministers, continually employed on this very service.

ഇതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെയാണ് നിങ്ങൾ നികുതി കൊടുക്കുന്നതും. അധികാരികൾ ഭരണകാര്യങ്ങളിൽ എപ്പോഴും ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്ന ദൈവസേവകരാണ്.

7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due, custom to whom custom, fear to whom fear, honour to whom honour.

ഓരോരുത്തർക്കും നിങ്ങൾ കടപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നതു കൊടുക്കുക: കരം കൊടുക്കേണ്ടവർക്ക് കരം, നികുതി കൊടുക്കേണ്ടവർക്ക് നികുതി; ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടവരെ ഭയപ്പെടുക, ആദരിക്കേണ്ടവരെ ആദരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുക.

8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

പരസ്പരം സ്നേഹിക്കുക എന്ന ബാധ്യതയല്ലാതെ നിങ്ങൾക്ക് ആരോടും യാതൊരു ബാധ്യതയും ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കരുത്. കാരണം, മറ്റുള്ളവരെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നത് ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിന്റെ നിവൃത്തിയാണ്.

9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is comprised in this word, even in this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

“നീ നിന്നെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നതുപോലെതന്നെ നിന്റെ അയൽവാസിയെയും സ്നേഹിക്കുക” എന്ന കൽപ്പനയിൽ, “വ്യഭിചാരം ചെയ്യരുത്, കൊലപാതകം ചെയ്യരുത്, മോഷ്ടിക്കരുത്, മോഹിക്കരുത്” എന്നിവയും അതുപോലുള്ള മറ്റു കൽപ്പനകളും സംക്ഷിപ്തമായിരിക്കുന്നു.

10 Love doeth no ill to a neighbour; the fulfilment therefore of the law is love.

സ്നേഹം അയൽവാസിക്കു ദോഷം ഒന്നും പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നില്ല. അങ്ങനെ, സ്നേഹത്തിലൂടെ ന്യായപ്രമാണം നിവർത്തിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.

11 And thus do, knowing the time; for the hour is come that we should awake from sleep, for now our salvation is nearer than when we believed.

ഈ കാലഘട്ടത്തിന്റെ സവിശേഷത തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞുവേണം നാം ഇതു ചെയ്യേണ്ടത്: നാം ആദ്യമായി കർത്താവിൽ വിശ്വാസമർപ്പിച്ച സമയത്തെക്കാൾ നമ്മുടെ രക്ഷ ഇപ്പോൾ ഏറ്റവും അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് ആലസ്യംവിട്ടുണരേണ്ട സമയമാണിത്.

12 The night is far advanced, the day approaches: let us therefore put off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

രാത്രി കഴിയാറായി; രക്ഷയുടെ പകൽ അടുത്തെത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ട്, നാം അന്ധകാരത്തിന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തികൾ ഉപേക്ഷിക്കുകയും പ്രകാശത്തിന്റെ ആയുധങ്ങൾ ധരിക്കുകയുംചെയ്യുക.

13 Let us walk becomingly as in the face of day, not in revels and drunkenness, not in impurities and wantonness, not in strife and envy.

പകൽസമയത്തെന്നപോലെ നമ്മുടെ ജീവിതരീതി മാന്യമായിരിക്കട്ടെ. കാമോന്മാദത്തിലും മദ്യോന്മത്തതയിലുമല്ല, ഭോഗാസക്തിയിലും കുത്തഴിഞ്ഞ ജീവിതത്തിലുമല്ല, ലഹളയിലും അസൂയയിലുമല്ല,

14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to gratify its passions.

മറിച്ച്, കർത്താവായ യേശുക്രിസ്തുവിനെ ധരിച്ചവരായി നിങ്ങൾ ജീവിക്കുക. ശാരീരികാഭിലാഷങ്ങളിൽ ചിന്താമഗ്നരാകരുത്.
