Matthew 5
1 THEN seeing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain: and seating himself, his disciples came to him:
Побачивши ж народ, зійшов на гору, і,як сїв, приступили до Него ученики Його;
2 and opening his mouth, he taught them, saying,
і відкрив Він уста свої, і навчав їх, глаголючи:
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for their’s is the kingdom of heaven.
Блаженні вбогі духом, бо їх царство небесне.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Блаженні сумні, бо такі втїшять ся.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Блаженні тихі, бо такі осягнуть землю.
6 Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be fed to the full.
Блаженні голодні й жадні правди, бо такі наситять ся.
7 Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy.
Блаженні милостиві, бо такі будуть помилувані.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Блаженні чисті серцем, бо такі побачять Бога.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Блаженні миротворці, бо такі синами Божими звати муть ся.
10 Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness sake: for their’s is the kingdom in heaven.
Блаженні, кого гонять за правду, бо їх царство небесне.
11 Blessed are ye, when they shall revile and persecute you, and lying, speak every thing evil against you for my sake.
Блаженні ви, коли вас безчестити муть, та гонити муть, та казати муть на вас усяке лихе слово не по правдї, ради мене.
12 Rejoice and exult; for plenteous is your reward in the heavens: for just so they persecuted the prophets who went before you.
Радуйтесь і веселітесь: бо велика нагорода ваша на небі; так бо гонили й пророків, що бували перше вас.
13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt become insipid, with what can it be salted? it is of no farther use for any purpose, but to be cast out, and trodden under foot of men.
Ви сіль землї; коли ж сіль звітріє, то чим солити? Нї-на-що не годить ся тоді вона, тільки щоб викинути геть і щоб топтали її люде.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city cannot be hid that is situated on an eminence.
Ви сьвітло сьвіту. Не може город сховати ся, стоячи на горі;
15 Neither do men burn a lamp, and set it under a bushel, but on its stand; and it sheds light on all that are in the house.
і, засьвітивши сьвічку, не став лять під посудину, а на сьвічнику то й сьвітить вона всїм, хто в хатї.
16 Just so let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in the heavens.
так нехай сяє сьвітло ваше перед людьми, щоб вони бачили ваші добрі дїла, й прославляли Отця вашого, що на небі.
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law and the prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfil.
Не думайте, що я прийшов знївечити закон або пророків; не прийшов я знївечити, а сповнити.
18 For I tell you assuredly, that till heaven and earth pass away, not one iota, or the smallest stroke of a letter, shall pass from the law, until all things shall be accomplished.
Істино бо глаголю вам: Доки перейде небо й земля, одна йота, або одна титла не перейде з закону, аж поки все станеть ся.
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of the least of these commandments, and teach men so, he shall be accounted the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall practise, and teach them, he shall be reckoned great in the kingdom of heaven.
Тим, хто поламле одну найменшу з сих заповідей і навчить так людей, той звати меть ся найменшим у царстві небесному; а хто сповнить і навчить, той звати меть ся великим у царстві небесному.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness abounds more than that of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Глаголю бо вам: Що коли ваша правда не переважить письменників та Фарисеїв, то не ввійдете в царство небесне.
21 Ye have heard that it was said to the men of antient times, “Thou shalt do no murder;” and whosoever shall commit murder, shall be liable to the judgment:
Чували ви, що сказано старосьвіцьким: Не вбий, а хто вбє, на того буде суд.
22 but I say unto you, That every man who is angry with his brother without cause, shall be liable to the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be liable to the sanhedrim: but whosever shall say, Thou fool, shall be liable to be cast into hell fire. (Geenna g1067)
Я ж вам глаголю: Хто сердить ся на брата свого без причини, на того буде суд; а хто скаже на брата свого: Рака [Безчесний], на того буде громадський суд; хто ж скаже: дурню, на того буде огонь пекельний. (Geenna g1067)
23 If therefore thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
Тим, коли принесеш дар свій до жертівнї, й згадаєш там, що твій брат має що проти тебе;
24 leave there thy gift before the altar, and go: first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
зостав свій дар перед жертівнею, і йди геть, помирись перш із братом твоїм, а тоді прийди й подай дар твій.
25 Be disposed to agree with thy prosecutor speedily, whilst thou art in the way with him to the bar; lest the prosecutor deliver thee up to the judge, and the judge commit thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
Мирись із твоїм противником хутко, доки ти ще в дорозі з ним, щоб не віддав тебе противник судді, а суддя не віддав тебе осавулї (слузї), і не вкинуто тебе в темницю.
26 Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt in no wise come out from thence, till thou hast paid the last farthing.
Істино глаголю тобі: Не вийдеш звідтіля, доки не віддаси й останнього шеляга.
27 Ye have heard that it was said to those of old, “Thou shalt not commit adultery:”
Чували ви, що сказано старосьвіцьким: Не чини перелюбу.
28 but I say unto you, That every one who looketh upon a woman to lust after her, hath already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Я ж вам глаголю: Хто спогляне на жінку жадібним оком, той уже вчинив перелюб із нею в серці своїм.
29 If then thine eye, the right, leads thee to offend, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is highly for thy advantage, that one of thy members be destroyed, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. (Geenna g1067)
Коли ж око твоє праве блазнить тебе, вирви його, й кинь од себе; бо більша користь тобі, щоб один із членів твоїх згинув, а не все тіло вкинуто в пекло. (Geenna g1067)
30 And if thy right hand leads thee to offend, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is highly thy interest that one of thy members should be destroyed, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. (Geenna g1067)
І коли права рука твоя блазнить тебе відотни її, й кинь од себе; більша бо користь тобі, щоб один із членів твоїх згинув, а не все тіло твоє вкинуто в пекло. (Geenna g1067)
31 It hath been said indeed, That whosoever will put away his wife, let him give her a bill of divorce:
Сказано ж: Що хто розводить ся з жінкою своєю, нехай дасть їй розвідний лист.
32 But I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except on account of whoredom, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is put away, committeth adultery.
Я ж вам глаголю: Що хто розведеть ся з жінкою своєю, хиба що за перелюб, доводить її до перелюбу; й хто оженить ся з розвідкою, чинить перелюб.
33 Again ye have heard that it was said to those of old, “Thou shalt not perjure thyself, but shalt perform to the Lord thine oaths:”
Знов чували, що сказано старосьвіцьким: Не кленись криво, а сповняй перед Господом обітниці твої.
34 But I say to thee, Swear not at all; neither by the heaven; for it is the throne of God:
Я ж вам глаголю: Не клянїть ся зовсім: нї небом, бо воно престол Божий;
35 nor by the earth; for it is the footstool of his feet: nor by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King:
нї землею, бо вона підніжок ніг Його; нї Єрусалимом, бо се город великого царя;
36 neither shalt thou swear by thy head, for thou canst not make one hair white or black.
нї головою твоєю не клянись, бо не зможеш зробити нї одного волоса білим або чорним.
37 But let your discourse be, Yea, yea; No, no: for all addition to these is from the wicked one.
Слово ж ваще нехай буде: так, так; нї, нї; бо що більш над се, те від лихого.
38 Ye have heard that it was said, “Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth:”
Чували ви, що сказано: Око за око, й зуб за зуб.
39 but I say unto you, Resist not an injurious act; but whosoever shall smite thee on the right cheek, turn to him also the other.
Я ж вам глаголю: Не противтесь лихому, а хто вдарить тебе у праву щоку твою, повернись до него й другою.
40 And if a man will prosecute thee, and take thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
І хто схоче судитись із тобою і зняти з тебе свиту, віддай йому й жупанок.
41 And whosoever shall press thee for one mile, go with him two.
І хто силувати ме тебе йти милю, йди з ним дві.
42 Give to him that asketh thee; and from him who wants to borrow of thee, turn not away.
Дай, хто в тебе просить, і хто хоче в тебе позичити, не одвертайсь од него.
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, “Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.”
Чували ви, що сказано: Люби ближнього твого, й ненавидь ворога твого.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who treat you insolently, and persecute you;
Я ж вам глаголю: Любіть ворогів ваших, благословляйте, хто клене вас, робіть добро, хто ненавидить вас, і моліть ся за тих, що обижають вас і гонять вас;
45 that ye may be the children of your Father who is in heaven: for he causeth his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and tendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
щоб вам бути синами Отця вашого, що на небі; Він бо велить сонцю своєму сходити над лихими й над добрими, й посилає дощ на праведних і неправедних.
46 For if ye love those who love you, what reward have you? do not even the publicans the same thing?
Бо коли ви любите тих, що люблять вас, то за що вам нагорода? хиба й митники не те саме роблять?
47 And if ye embrace your brethren only, what do ye extraordinary? do not even the publicans so?
І коли витаєте тільки братів ваших, то що надто робите? хиба й митники не так роблять?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, as your Father who is in heaven is perfect.
Оце ж бувайте звершені, як Отець ваш, що на небі, звершений.
