Matthew 21
1 AND when they drew nigh to Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage to the mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,
Lorsqu’ils approchèrent de Jérusalem, et furent arrivés à Bethphagé, vers le mont des Oliviers, Jésus envoya deux de ses disciples,
2 saying to them, Go into the village, which is opposite you, and immediately you will find an ass tied, and a foal with her; loose and bring them to me.
en leur disant: « Allez au village qui est devant vous; vous trouverez aussitôt une ânesse attachée et un ânon avec elle; détachez-les, et amenez-les-moi.
3 And if any man say aught to you, ye shall tell them, That the Lord hath need of them, and immediately he will send them.
Et si l’on vous dit quelque chose, répondez que le Seigneur en a besoin, et à l’instant on les laissera aller. »
4 Now this was entirely done, that what was spoken by the prophet might be fulfilled, saying,
Or ceci arriva, afin que s’accomplît la parole du prophète:
5 “Tell the daughter of Sion, Lo! thy King cometh to thee, meek, and sitting on an ass, even on a foal the ass’s colt.”
« Dites à la fille de Sion: Voici que ton roi vient à toi plein de douceur, assis sur une ânesse et sur un ânon, le petit de celle qui porte le joug. »
6 Then the disciples going, and doing as Jesus had commanded them,
Les disciples allèrent donc et firent ce que Jésus leur avait commandé.
7 brought the ass and her foal, and they spread over them their garments, and seated him upon them.
Ils amenèrent l’ânesse et l’ânon, mirent dessus leurs manteaux, et l’y firent asseoir.
8 And a vast multitude spread their garments on the road, and others cut down branches from the trees, and strewed them on the road:
Le peuple en grand nombre étendit ses manteaux le long de la route; d’autres coupaient des branches d’arbres et en jonchaient le chemin.
9 and the multitudes who went before, and who followed after, cried, saying, Hosanna, to the son of David; blessed is he who cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.
Et toute cette multitude, en avant de Jésus et derrière lui, criait: « Hosanna au fils de David! Béni soit celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur! Hosanna au plus haut des cieux! »
10 And when he was entered into Jerusalem, the whole city was in commotion, saying, Who is this?
Lorsqu’il entra dans Jérusalem, toute la ville fut en émoi; on disait: « Qui est-ce? »
11 Then the multitudes said, This is Jesus, the prophet, who is from Nazareth of Galilee.
Et le peuple répondait: « C’est Jésus le prophète, de Nazareth en Galilée. »
12 And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and cast out all those who sold and bought in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of those who sold doves
Jésus étant entré dans le temple, chassa tous ceux qui vendaient et achetaient dans le temple; il renversa les tables des changeurs et les sièges de ceux qui vendaient les colombes,
13 and said unto them, It is written, “My house shall be called a house of prayer,” but ye have made it a den of robbers.
et leur dit: « Il est écrit: Ma maison sera appelée une maison de prière, et vous en faites une caverne de voleurs. »
14 Then the blind and the lame came unto him, into the temple, and he cured them.
Des aveugles et des boiteux vinrent à lui dans le temple, et il les guérit.
15 But when the chief priests and scribes saw the marvellous acts which he did, and the children crying out in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were filled with indignation;
Mais les Princes des prêtres et les scribes, voyant les miracles qu’il faisait, et les enfants qui criaient dans le temple et disaient: « Hosanna au fils de David, » s’indignèrent,
16 and said to him, Hearest thou what these say? Jesus replied to them, Yes; but have ye never read, “That out of the mouths of infants and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?”
et ils lui dirent: « Entendez-vous ce qu’ils disent? — Oui, leur répondit Jésus; n’avez-vous jamais lu: De la bouche des enfants et de ceux qui sont à la mamelle, vous vous êtes préparé une louange? »
17 And turning his back upon them, he went out of the city to Bethany, and lodged there.
Et les ayant laissés là, il sortit de la ville, et s’en alla dans la direction de Béthanie, où il passa la nuit en plein air.
18 Now in the morning, when returning into the city, he was hungry:
Le lendemain matin, comme il retournait à la ville, il eut faim.
19 and seeing a fig-tree at the road side, he went up to it, and found nothing on it but leaves only: and saith unto it, Let no fruit spring from thee henceforth for ever: and immediately the fig-tree withered entirely away. (aiōn g165)
Voyant un figuier près du chemin, il s’en approcha; mais il n’y trouva que des feuilles, et il lui dit: « Que jamais aucun fruit ne naisse de toi! » Et à l’instant le figuier sécha. (aiōn g165)
20 And when his disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How suddenly is the fig-tree withered away!
A cette vue, les disciples dirent avec étonnement: « Comment a-t-il séché en un instant? »
21 But Jesus addressing them, said, Verily I tell you, if ye have faith, and entertain no doubt, not only shall ye do what is done to the fig-tree, but if ye should even say to this mountain, Be lifted up, and be cast into the sea, it be done.
Jésus leur répondit: « En vérité, je vous le dis, si vous avez de la foi et que vous n’hésitiez point, non seulement vous ferez comme il a été fait à ce figuier; mais quand même vous diriez à cette montagne: Ote-toi de là et jette-toi dans la mer, cela se ferait.
22 And all things whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
Tout ce que vous demanderez avec foi dans la prière, vous l’obtiendrez. »
23 And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him, as he was teaching, demanding, By what authority doest thou these things? And who gave thee this authority?
Étant entré dans le temple, comme il enseignait, les Princes des prêtres et les Anciens s’approchèrent de lui et lui dirent: « De quel droit faites-vous ces choses, et qui vous a donné ce pouvoir? »
24 Then Jesus answering, said to them, I also will ask you one question, which if ye answer me, then will I tell you by what authority I do these things.
Jésus leur répondit: « Je vous ferai, moi aussi, une question, et, si vous y répondez, je vous dirai de quel droit je fais ces choses:
25 The baptism of John whence was it? from heaven, or from men? Hereupon they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we reply, From heaven, he will say to us, Why then did ye not believe him?
Le baptême de Jean, d’où était-il? du ciel, ou des hommes? » Mais ils faisaient en eux-mêmes cette réflexion:
26 But if we say, From men, we are afraid of the populace, for they all hold John as a prophet.
« Si nous répondons: Du ciel, il nous dira: Pourquoi donc n’avez-vous pas cru en lui? Et si nous répondons: Des hommes, nous avons à craindre le peuple: car tout le monde tient Jean pour un prophète. »
27 So they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. Then said he also to them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
Ils répondirent à Jésus: « Nous ne savons. — Et moi, dit Jésus, je ne vous dis pas non plus de quel droit je fais ces choses. »
28 But what think ye? A man had two sons; and coming to the first he said, Son, go work to-day in my vineyard.
« Mais que vous en semble? Un homme avait deux fils; s’adressant au premier, il lui dit: Mon fils, va travailler aujourd’hui à ma vigne.
29 But he answering said, I will not: yet repenting afterwards, he went.
Celui-ci répondit: Je ne veux pas; mais ensuite, touché de repentir, il y alla.
30 And coming to the other, he spake after the same manner, and he replying, said, I go, sir; yet went not.
Puis, s’adressant à l’autre, il lui fit le même commandement. Celui-ci répondit: J’y vais, seigneur; et il n’y alla point.
31 Which of the two did the will of his father? They say to him, The first. Jesus saith to them, Verily I say unto you, That tax-gatherers and harlots shall go before you into the kingdom of God.
Lequel des deux a fait la volonté de son père? — Le premier, » lui dirent-ils. Alors Jésus: « Je vous le dis en vérité, les publicains et les courtisanes vous devancent dans le royaume de Dieu.
32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the tax-gatherers and harlots believed on him. But ye, when ye saw it, repented not afterwards, that ye should believe on him.
Car Jean est venu à vous dans la voie de la justice, et vous n’avez pas cru en lui; mais les publicains et les courtisanes ont cru en lui, et vous, qui avez vu cela, vous ne vous êtes pas encore repentis pour croire en lui.
33 Hear another parable: There was a certain man, the master of a family, who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged in it a wine-press, and built a tower, and hired it out to husbandmen, and went into a distant country.
« Écoutez une autre parabole. Il y avait un père de famille qui planta une vigne. Il l’entoura d’une haie, y creusa un pressoir et y bâtit une tour; et l’ayant louée à des vignerons, il partit pour un voyage.
34 But when the season for fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen to receive his fruits.
Quand vint le temps des fruits, il envoya aux vignerons ses serviteurs pour recevoir le produit de sa vigne.
35 And the husbandmen took his servants, one they beat, and another they killed, and a third they stoned.
Les vignerons s’étant saisis de ses serviteurs, battirent l’un, tuèrent l’autre et lapidèrent le troisième.
36 Again he sent other servants more than the first, and they treated them in the same manner.
Il envoya de nouveau d’autres serviteurs en plus grand nombre que les premiers, et ils les traitèrent de même.
37 Then at last he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.
Enfin il leur envoya son fils, en disant: ils respecteront mon fils.
38 But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir, come let us kill him, and let us seize on the inheritance.
Mais quand les vignerons virent le fils, ils se dirent entre eux: Voici l’héritier; venez, tuons-le, et nous aurons son héritage.
39 And they took him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.
Et s’étant saisis de lui, ils le jetèrent hors de la vigne et le tuèrent.
40 When therefore the master of the vineyard cometh, what will he do with these husbandmen?
Maintenant, lorsque le maître de la vigne viendra, que fera-t-il à ces vignerons? »
41 They say unto him, He will dreadfully destroy those wicked wretches, and will let out his vineyard to other husbandmen, who will render him the fruits in their seasons.
Ils lui répondirent: « Il frappera sans pitié ces misérables, et louera sa vigne à d’autres vignerons, qui lui en donneront les fruits en leur temps. »
42 Jesus saith unto them, Have ye not read in the Scriptures, “The stone, which the builders rejected; the same is become the head of the corner; this is done by the Lord, and it is wonderful in our eyes.”
Jésus leur dit: « N’avez-vous jamais lu dans les Écritures: La pierre qu’ont rejetée ceux qui bâtissaient, est devenue le sommet de l’angle? C’est le Seigneur qui a fait cela, et c’est un prodige à nos yeux. —
43 Therefore I tell you, That the kingdom of God shall be taken away from you, and given to a nation, producing the fruits thereof.
C’est pourquoi je vous dis que le royaume de Dieu vous sera ôté et qu’il sera donné à un peuple qui en produira les fruits.
44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone, shall be broken in pieces, but on whomsoever it shall fall, it shall grind him to powder.
Celui qui tombera sur cette pierre se brisera, et celui sur qui elle tombera sera écrasé. »
45 And when the chief priests and Pharisees heard his parables, they knew that he was speaking concerning them.
Les Princes des prêtres et les Pharisiens ayant entendu ces paraboles, comprirent que Jésus parlait d’eux.
46 And they sought to apprehend him; but were afraid of the people, for they held him as a prophet.
Et ils cherchaient à se saisir de lui; mais ils craignaient le peuple, qui le regardait comme un prophète.
