< John 1 >

1 IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Ní àtètèkọ́ṣe ni Ọ̀rọ̀ wà, Ọ̀rọ̀ sì wà pẹ̀lú Ọlọ́run, Ọlọ́run sì ni Ọ̀rọ̀ náà.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
Òun ni ó sì wà pẹ̀lú Ọlọ́run ní àtètèkọ́ṣe.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not one thing made that was made.
Nípasẹ̀ rẹ̀ ni a dá ohun gbogbo; lẹ́yìn rẹ̀ a kò sì dá ohun kan nínú ohun tí a ti dá.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
Nínú rẹ̀ ni ìyè wà, ìyè yìí náà sì ni ìmọ́lẹ̀ aráyé,
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness did not comprehend it.
ìmọ́lẹ̀ náà sì ń mọ́lẹ̀ nínú òkùnkùn, òkùnkùn kò sì borí rẹ̀.
6 A man was sent from God, whose name was John.
Ọkùnrin kan wà tí a rán láti ọ̀dọ̀ Ọlọ́run wá; orúkọ ẹni tí ń jẹ́ Johanu.
7 He came for a witness, that he might bear testimony concerning the Light, that all men through him might believe.
Òun ni a sì rán fún ẹ̀rí, kí ó lè ṣe ẹlẹ́rìí fún ìmọ́lẹ̀ náà, kí gbogbo ènìyàn kí ó lè gbàgbọ́ nípasẹ̀ rẹ̀.
8 He was not the Light, but sent that he should bear testimony concerning the Light.
Òun fúnra rẹ̀ kì í ṣe ìmọ́lẹ̀ náà, ṣùgbọ́n a rán an wá láti ṣe ẹlẹ́rìí fún ìmọ́lẹ̀ náà.
9 He was that true Light, which illumines every man by his coming into the world.
Ìmọ́lẹ̀ òtítọ́ ń bẹ tí ń tan ìmọ́lẹ̀ fún olúkúlùkù ènìyàn tí ó wá sí ayé.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
Òun sì wà ní ayé, àti pé, nípasẹ̀ rẹ̀ ni a sì ti dá ayé, ṣùgbọ́n ayé kò sì mọ̀ ọ́n.
11 He came unto his peculiar people, and his peculiar people did not receive him.
Ó tọ àwọn tirẹ̀ wá, àwọn tirẹ̀ kò sì gbà á.
12 But as many as did receive him, on them he bestowed authority to become children of God, even on those who believe on his name:
Ṣùgbọ́n iye àwọn tí ó gbà á, àní àwọn náà tí ó gbà orúkọ rẹ̀ gbọ́, àwọn ni ó fi ẹ̀tọ́ fún láti di ọmọ Ọlọ́run.
13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Àwọn ọmọ tí kì í ṣe nípa ẹ̀jẹ̀, tàbí nípa ti ìfẹ́ ara, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni kì í ṣe nípa ìfẹ́ ti ènìyàn, bí kò ṣe láti ọwọ́ Ọlọ́run.
14 And the Word became incarnate, and tabernacled with us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, ) full of grace and truth.
Ọ̀rọ̀ náà sì di ara, òun sì ń bá wa gbé. Àwa sì ti rí ògo rẹ̀, àní ògo ọmọ rẹ kan ṣoṣo, tí ó ti ọ̀dọ̀ Baba wá, ó kún fún oore-ọ̀fẹ́ àti òtítọ́.
15 John bore witness concerning him, and cried, saying, This is he of whom I said, He that is coming after me, is before me: because before me he was.
Johanu sì jẹ́rìí nípa rẹ̀, ó kígbe, ó sì wí pé, “Èyí ni ẹni tí mo sọ̀rọ̀ rẹ̀ pé, ‘Ẹni tí ń bọ̀ lẹ́yìn mi pọ̀jù mí lọ, nítorí òun ti wà ṣáájú mi.’”
16 And from his plenitude we all have received, even grace corresponding with his grace.
Nítorí láti inú ẹ̀kúnrẹ́rẹ́ oore-ọ̀fẹ́ rẹ̀ ni gbogbo wa sì ti gba ìbùkún kún ìbùkún.
17 For the law was given by Moses, but the grace and the reality came by Jesus Christ.
Nítorí pé nípasẹ̀ Mose ni a ti fi òfin fún ni ṣùgbọ́n òun; oore-ọ̀fẹ́ àti òtítọ́ láti ipasẹ̀ Jesu Kristi wá.
18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath thoroughly described him.
Kò sí ẹni tí ó rí Ọlọ́run rí, bí kò ṣe òun nìkan, àní ọmọ rẹ̀ kan ṣoṣo, ẹni tí òun pàápàá jẹ́ Ọlọ́run, tí ó sì wà ní ìbáṣepọ̀ tí ó súnmọ́ jùlọ pẹ̀lú baba, òun náà ni ó sì fi í hàn.
19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent from Jerusalem priests and Levites, that they should question him, Who art thou?
Èyí sì ni ẹ̀rí Johanu, nígbà tí àwọn Júù rán àwọn àlùfáà àti àwọn ọmọ Lefi láti Jerusalẹmu wá láti béèrè lọ́wọ́ rẹ̀ ẹni tí òun ń ṣe.
20 And he confessed, and denied it not; but acknowledged, I am not the Messiah.
Òun kò sì kùnà láti jẹ́wọ́, ṣùgbọ́n òun jẹ́wọ́ wọ́ọ́rọ́wọ́ pé, “Èmi kì í ṣe Kristi náà.”
21 And they asked him, What then? art thou Elias? and he said, I am not. Art thou that prophet? and he answered, No.
Wọ́n sì bi í léèrè pé, “Ta ha ni ìwọ? Elijah ni ìwọ bí?” Ó sì wí pé, “Èmi kọ́.” “Ìwọ ni wòlíì náà bí?” Ó sì dáhùn pé, “Bẹ́ẹ̀ kọ́.”
22 Then said they to him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to those who sent us: What description givest thou of thyself?
Ní ìparí wọ́n wí fún un pé, “Ta ni ìwọ í ṣe? Fún wa ní ìdáhùn kí àwa kí ó lè mú èsì padà tọ àwọn tí ó rán wa wá lọ. Kí ni ìwọ wí nípa ti ara rẹ?”
23 He said, I am a voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way for the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah.
Johanu sì fi ọ̀rọ̀ wòlíì Isaiah fún wọn ní èsì pé, “Èmi ni ohùn ẹni tí ń kígbe ní ijù, ‘Ẹ ṣe ọ̀nà Olúwa ní títọ́.’”
24 And they who were sent, were of the Pharisees.
Ọ̀kan nínú àwọn Farisi tí a rán
25 And they questioned him, and said to him, Why then dost thou baptise, if thou be not the Messiah, nor Elias, nor that prophet?
bi í léèrè pé, “Èéṣe tí ìwọ fi ń bamitiisi nígbà náà, bí ìwọ kì í bá ṣe Kristi, tàbí Elijah, tàbí wòlíì náà?”
26 John answered them, saying, I baptise with water: but in the midst of you hath stood a person, whom ye have not known;
Johanu dá wọn lóhùn, wí pé, “Èmi ń fi omi bamitiisi, ẹnìkan dúró láàrín yín, ẹni tí ẹ̀yin kò mọ̀,
27 it is he, though coming after me, who was before me, the thong of whole sandal I am not worthy to untie.
Òun náà ni ẹni tí ń bọ̀ lẹ́yìn mi, okùn bàtà ẹni tí èmi kò tó láti tú.”
28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptising.
Àwọn nǹkan wọ̀nyí ni ó ṣẹlẹ̀ ní Betani ní òdìkejì odò Jordani, níbi tí Johanu ti ń fi omi bamitiisi.
29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming to him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world,
Ní ọjọ́ kejì, Johanu rí Jesu tí ó ń bọ̀ wá sí ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ̀, ó sì wí pé, “Wò ó, Ọ̀dọ́-àgùntàn Ọlọ́run, ẹni tí ó kó ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ ayé lọ!
30 This is he of whom I spake, After me cometh a man who was before me: for before me he existed.
Èyí ni ẹni tí mo ń sọ nígbà tí mo wí pé, ‘Ọkùnrin kan tí ń bọ̀ wá lẹ́yìn mi, tí ó pọ̀jù mí lọ, nítorí tí ó ti wà ṣáájú mi.’
31 And I knew him not: though that he might be manifested to Israel, therefore am I come baptising with water.
Èmi gan an kò sì mọ̀ ọ́n, ṣùgbọ́n ìdí tí mo fi wá ń fi omi ṣe ìtẹ̀bọmi ni kí a lè fi í hàn fún Israẹli.”
32 And John bore witness, saying, I saw the Spirit descending as a dove from heaven, and it rested upon him.
Nígbà náà ni Johanu jẹ́rìí sí i pé, “Mo rí Ẹ̀mí sọ̀kalẹ̀ láti ọ̀run wá bí àdàbà, tí ó sì bà lé e.
33 And I did not know him: but he that sent me baptising with water, he said to me, Upon whomsoever thou shalt see the Spirit descending as a dove, and resting upon him, that is he who baptiseth with the Holy Ghost.
Èmi kì bá tí mọ̀ ọ́n, bí kò ṣe pé ẹni tí ó rán mi láti fi omi bamitiisi sọ fún mi pé, ‘Ọkùnrin tí ìwọ rí tí Ẹ̀mí sọ̀kalẹ̀ tí ó bà lé lórí ni ẹni tí yóò fi Ẹ̀mí Mímọ́ bamitiisi.’
34 And I have seen it, and have borne testimony that this is the Son of God.
Èmi ti rí i, mo sì jẹ́rìí pé, èyí ni Ọmọ Ọlọ́run.”
35 On the morrow John was again standing with two of his disciples;
Ní ọjọ́ kejì, Johanu dúró pẹ̀lú méjì nínú àwọn ọmọ-ẹ̀yìn rẹ̀.
36 and looking upon Jesus as he walked by, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
Nígbà tí ó sì rí Jesu bí ó ti ń kọjá lọ, ó wí pé, “Wò ó Ọ̀dọ́-àgùntàn Ọlọ́run!”
37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
Nígbà tí àwọn ọmọ-ẹ̀yìn méjì náà sì gbọ́ ohun tí ó wí yìí, wọ́n bẹ̀rẹ̀ sì í tọ Jesu lẹ́yìn.
38 Then Jesus turned about, and seeing them following, saith to them, What are ye seeking? They said unto him, Rabbi (which signifies, when translated, Master), where is thy abode?
Nígbà náà ni Jesu yípadà, ó rí i pé wọ́n ń tọ òun lẹ́yìn, ó sì béèrè pé, “Kí ni ẹ̀yin ń wá?” Wọ́n wí fún un pé, “Rabbi” (ìtumọ̀ èyí tí í ṣe Olùkọ́ni), “Níbo ni ìwọ ń gbé?”
39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he abode, and continued with him that day: and it was about the tenth hour.
Ó wí fún wọn pé, “Ẹ wá wò ó, ẹ̀yin yóò sì rí i.” Wọ́n sì wá, wọ́n sì rí ibi tí ó ń gbé, wọ́n sì wà ní ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ̀ ní gbogbo ọjọ́ náà. Ó jẹ́ ìwọ̀n wákàtí kẹwàá ọjọ́.
40 One of the two, who had heard from John mention of Jesus, and had followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
Anderu arákùnrin Simoni Peteru jẹ́ ọ̀kan nínú àwọn méjì tí ó gbọ́ ọ̀rọ̀ Johanu, tí ó sì tọ Jesu lẹ́yìn.
41 He first finds his own brother Simon, and saith to him, We have found the Messiah (which is, being translated, the Christ).
Ohun àkọ́kọ́ tí Anderu ṣe ni láti wá Simoni arákùnrin rẹ̀, ó sì wí fún un pé, “Àwa ti rí Messia” (ẹni tí ṣe Kristi).
42 And he brought him to Jesus. Then Jesus looking on him, said, Thou art Simon the son of Jonas: thou shalt be called Cephas, which, interpreted in Greek, is Petros, a Rock.
Ó sì mú un wá sọ́dọ̀ Jesu. Jesu sì wò ó, ó wí pé, “Ìwọ ni Simoni ọmọ Jona: Kefa ni a ó sì máa pè ọ” (ìtumọ̀ èyí tí ṣe Peteru).
43 The next day Jesus resolved to go into Galilee, and he findeth Philip, and saith to him, Follow me.
Ní ọjọ́ kejì Jesu ń fẹ́ jáde lọ sí Galili, ó sì rí Filipi, ó sì wí fún un pé, “Máa tọ̀ mí lẹ́yìn.”
44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
Filipi gẹ́gẹ́ bí i Anderu àti Peteru, jẹ́ ará ìlú Betisaida.
45 Philip findeth Nathaniel, and saith to him, We have found him whom Moses in the law has described, and the prophets, Jesus the son of Joseph, who is of Nazareth.
Filipi rí Natanaeli, ó sì wí fún un pé, “Àwa ti rí ẹni náà tí Mose kọ nípa rẹ̀ nínú òfin àti ẹni tí àwọn wòlíì ti kọ̀wé rẹ̀, Jesu ti Nasareti, ọmọ Josẹfu.”
46 And Nathaniel said to him, Can any thing good come out of Nazareth? Philip saith to him, Come and see.
Natanaeli béèrè pé, “Nasareti? Ohun rere kan ha lè ti ibẹ̀ jáde?” Filipi wí fún un pé, “Wá wò ó.”
47 Jesus saw Nathaniel coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite in reality, in whom there is no guile!
Jesu rí Natanaeli ń bọ̀ wá sọ́dọ̀ rẹ̀, ó sì wí nípa rẹ̀ pé, “Èyí ni ọmọ Israẹli tòótọ́, nínú ẹni tí ẹ̀tàn kò sí.”
48 Nathaniel saith unto him, From whence canst thou know me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig-tree, I saw thee.
Natanaeli béèrè pé, “Báwo ni ìwọ ti ṣe mọ̀ mí?” Jesu sì dáhùn pé, “Èmi rí ọ nígbà tí ìwọ wà lábẹ́ igi ọ̀pọ̀tọ́ kí Filipi tó pè ọ́.”
49 Nathaniel answered and said to him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the king of Israel.
Nígbà náà ni Natanaeli sọ ọ́ gbangba pé, “Rabbi, ìwọ ni Ọmọ Ọlọ́run; Ìwọ ni ọba Israẹli.”
50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said to thee, I saw thee under the fig-tree, dost thou believe? thou shalt see greater things than these.
Jesu sì wí fún un pé, “Ìwọ gbàgbọ́ nítorí mo wí fún ọ pé mo rí ọ lábẹ́ igi ọ̀pọ̀tọ́. Ìwọ ó rí ohun tí ó pọ̀jù ìwọ̀nyí lọ.”
51 And he saith to him, Verily, verily, I tell you, From henceforth ye shall see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
Nígbà náà ni ó fi kún un pé, “Èmi wí fún yín nítòótọ́, ẹ̀yin yóò rí ọ̀run ṣí sílẹ̀, àwọn angẹli Ọlọ́run yóò sì máa gòkè, wọ́n ó sì máa sọ̀kalẹ̀ sórí Ọmọ Ènìyàn.”
