< James 4 >
1 FROM whence come wars and conflicts among you? spring they not from hence, even from your passions, which war in your members?
ⲁ̅ⲁⲣⲉ ⲡⲟⲗⲉⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲑⲱⲛ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁⲣⲉ⳿ⲙⲗⲁϧ ⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲑⲱⲛ ϧⲉⲛ ⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ ⲙⲏ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲁⲛ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛ ⲛⲉⲧⲉⲛϩⲩⲇⲟⲛⲏ ⲛⲏⲉⲧϧⲏⲕ ⳿ⲉ⳿ϧⲣⲏⲓ ϧⲉⲛ ⲛⲉⲧⲉⲛⲙⲉⲗⲟⲥ.
2 Ye eagerly covet, yet have not: ye murder, and are envious, yet cannot obtain your object; ye wage war, but have not, because ye pray not.
ⲃ̅ⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛⲉⲣ⳿ⲉⲡⲓⲑⲩⲙⲓⲛ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⳿ⲛⲧⲟⲧⲉⲛ ⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛϧⲱⲧⲉⲃ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛⲭⲟϩ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⳿ϣϫⲟⲙ ⳿ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲉⲛ ⳿ⲉϣⲁϣⲛⲓ ⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛ⳿ϣϭⲛⲏⲛ ⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛⲉⲣⲡⲟⲗⲉⲙⲓⲛ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⳿ⲛⲧⲟⲧⲉⲛ ⲉⲑⲃⲉ ϫⲉ ⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛⲉⲣⲉⲧⲓⲛ ⲁⲛ.
3 Ye ask, and receive nothing, because ye ask vilely, in order to consume it on your sensual appetites.
ⲅ̅ⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛⲉⲣⲉⲧⲓⲛ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛϭⲓ ⲁⲛ ϫⲉ ⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛⲉⲣⲉⲧⲓⲛ ⳿ⲛⲕⲁⲕⲱⲥ ϩⲓⲛⲁ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛ ⲛⲉⲧⲉⲛϩⲩⲇⲟⲛⲏ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛϭⲟ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ.
4 Ye adulterers and adultresses, know ye not that friendship with the world is enmity against God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is set down an enemy to God.
ⲇ̅ⲛⲓⲛⲱⲓⲕ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛ⳿ⲉⲙⲓ ⲁⲛ ϫⲉ ϯⲙⲉⲧ⳿ϣⲫⲏⲣ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲓⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲟⲩⲙⲉⲧϫⲁϫⲓ ⲧⲉ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲫϯ ⲫⲏ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲑⲟⲩⲱϣ ⳿ⲉⲉⲣ⳿ϣⲫⲏⲣ ⳿ⲉⲡⲓⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⳿ϥⲛⲁϣⲱⲡⲓ ⲉϥⲟⲓ ⳿ⲛϫⲁϫⲓ ⳿ⲉⲫϯ.
5 Think ye that the scripture saith without meaning, The spirit which dwelleth in you strongly urges to envy?
ⲉ̅ϣⲁⲛ ⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛ⳿ⲉⲙⲓ ⲁⲛ ϫⲉ ⲁⲣⲉ ϯ⳿ⲅⲣⲁⲫⲏ ϫⲱ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⳿ⲉ⳿ⲫⲗⲏⲟⲩ ⲓⲉ ϧⲉⲛ ⲟⲩ⳿ⲫⲑⲟⲛⲟⲥ ⳿ϥϭⲓϣϣⲱⲟⲩ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ ⲡⲓⲡ͞ⲛⲁ̅ ⲫⲏⲉⲧϣⲟⲡ ⳿ⲛϧⲏⲧⲉⲛ.
6 But he giveth mightier grace. Wherefore he saith, “God sets himself against the proud, but giveth grace to the lowly.”
ⲋ̅⳿ϥϯ ⲇⲉ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲛⲓϣϯ ⳿ⲛ⳿ϩⲙⲟⲧ ⲉⲑⲃⲉⲫⲁⲓ ⳿ϥϫⲱ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲫϯ ⳿ϥϯ ⳿ⲉϧⲟⲩⲛ ⳿ⲉ⳿ϩⲣⲉⲛ ⲛⲓϭⲁⲥⲓϩⲏⲧ ⲛⲏ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲧⲑⲉⲃⲓⲏⲟⲩⲧ ⳿ϥⲛⲁϯ ⲛⲱⲟⲩ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩ⳿ϩⲙⲟⲧ.
7 Be in subjection then to God. Resist the devil, and he will fly from you.
ⲍ̅ⲙⲁϭⲛⲉϫⲱⲧⲉⲛ ⲟⲩⲛ ⳿ⲙⲫϯ ϯ ⲇⲉ ⳿ⲉϧⲟⲩⲛ ⳿ⲉ⳿ϩⲣⲉⲛ ⲡⲓⲇⲓ⳿ⲁⲃⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⲉϥ⳿ⲉⲫⲱⲧ ⲥⲁⲃⲟⲗ ⳿ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲉⲛ.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Make clean your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double-minded.
ⲏ̅ⲱⲛⲧ ⳿ⲉⲫϯ ⲉϥ⳿ⲉϧⲱⲛⲧ ⳿ⲉⲣⲱⲧⲉⲛ ⲙⲁⲧⲟⲩⲃⲟ ⲛⲉⲧⲉⲛϫⲓϫ ⲛⲓⲣⲉϥⲉⲣⲛⲟⲃⲓ ⲙⲁⲧⲟⲩⲃⲉ ⲛⲉⲧⲉⲛϩⲏⲧ ϧⲁ ⲛⲓϩⲏⲧ ⲃ̅.
9 Be bitterly afflicted and lament, and let your tears run down; let your laughter be converted into mourning, and your joy into dejection.
ⲑ̅ⲁⲣⲓⲧⲁⲗⲉⲡⲱⲣⲓⲛ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁⲣⲓϩⲏⲃⲓ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲣⲓⲙⲓ ⲡⲉⲧⲉⲛⲥⲱⲃⲓ ⲙⲁⲣⲉϥⲕⲟⲧϥ ⲉⲩϩⲏⲃⲓ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲡⲉⲧⲉⲛⲣⲁϣⲓ ⲉⲩⲟⲕⲉⲙ.
10 Be humbled in the presence of God, so he will exalt you.
ⲓ̅ⲙⲁⲑⲉⲃⲓⲉ ⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉ⳿ⲙⲑⲟ ⳿ⲙⲫϯ ϩⲓⲛⲁ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉϥϭⲉⲥ ⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ.
11 Traduce not one another, brethren. He that traduceth his brother, and judgeth his brother, traduceth the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judgest the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but as judge.
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅⳿ⲙⲡⲉⲣⲥⲁϫⲓ ⳿ⲛⲥⲁ ⲛⲉⲧⲉⲛⲉⲣⲏⲟⲩ ⲛⲁ⳿ⲥⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⲫⲏ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉⲧⲥⲁϫⲓ ⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ ⲓⲉ ⲉϥϯϩⲁⲡ ⳿ⲉⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ ⲁϥⲥⲁϫⲓ ⳿ⲛⲥⲁ ⲡⲓⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁϥϯϩⲁⲡ ⳿ⲉⲡⲓⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲓⲥϫⲉ ⲇⲉ ⳿ⲕϯϩⲁⲡ ⳿ⲉⲡⲓⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲓⲉ ⳿ⲛⲑⲟⲕ ⲟⲩⲣⲉϥ⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲓⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲁⲛ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲟⲩⲣⲉϥϯ ϩⲁⲡ.
12 There is one lawgiver, who can save or destroy: who art thou that judgest another man?
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲟⲩⲁⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲓⲛⲟⲙⲟⲑⲉⲧⲏⲥ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲛⲣⲉϥϯϩⲁⲡ ⲫⲏⲉⲧⲉ ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⳿ϣϫⲟⲙ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⳿ⲉⲧⲟⲩϫⲟ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲉⲧⲁⲕⲟ ⳿ⲛⲑⲟⲕ ⲛⲓⲙ ⳿ⲛⲑⲟⲕ ϧⲁ ⲫⲏⲉⲧϯϩⲁⲡ ⳿ⲉⲡⲉⲕ⳿ϣⲫⲏⲣ.
13 Come now, ye that talk, To-day or to-morrow we will go to such a town, and do business there during one year, and traffic, and make great profits:
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲁⲅⲉ ϯⲛⲟⲩ ⲛⲏⲉⲧϫⲱ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲫⲟⲟⲩ ⲓⲉ ⲣⲁⲥϯ ⲧⲉⲛⲛⲁϣⲉ ⲛⲁⲛ ⳿ⲉⲧⲁⲓⲡⲟⲗⲓⲥ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲛ⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲣⲟⲙⲡⲓ ⳿ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲛⲉⲣⲓⲉⲃϣⲱⲧ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲛϫⲉⲙϩⲏⲟⲩ.
14 though ye know nothing of what shall be to-morrow. For what is your life? It is but a vapour which appeareth for a little while, and then vanishes away.
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ⲛⲏⲉⲧⲉ ⳿ⲛⲥⲉⲥⲱⲟⲩⲛ ⲁⲛ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩ ⲡⲉⲑⲛⲁϣⲱⲡⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉϥⲣⲁⲥϯ ⲁϣ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲉⲧⲉⲛⲱⲛϧ ⲁϥ⳿ⲙⲫⲣⲏϯ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩϣⲱⲓϣ ⲉϥⲟⲩⲟⲛϩ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⳿ⲡⲣⲟⲥ ⲟⲩⲕⲟⲩϫⲓ ⳿ⲓⲧⲁ ϣⲁϥⲧⲁⲕⲟ.
15 Instead of your saying, If the Lord pleases, and we are alive, then we will do this or that thing.
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅⳿ⲉ⳿ⲫⲙⲁ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛϫⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲁⲣⲉϣⲁⲛ Ⲡ⳪ ⲟⲩⲱϣ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲛⲱⲛϧ ⲧⲉⲛⲛⲁⲉⲣ ⲫⲁⲓ ⲓⲉ ⲫⲏ.
16 But now ye glory in your proud boastings: all such glorying is wicked.
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ϯⲛⲟⲩ ⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛϣⲟⲩϣⲟⲩ ⳿ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲉⲛ ϧⲉⲛ ⲛⲉⲧⲉⲛⲙⲉⲧⲣⲉϥϩⲓ⳿ⲡϩⲟ ϣⲟⲩϣⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⳿ⲙⲡⲁⲓⲣⲏϯ ⲥⲉϩⲱⲟⲩ.
17 Therefore if a man knoweth how to act properly, and doth not, he is criminal.
