James 1
1 JAMES, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are dispersed, greeting.
Tiago, servo de Deus e do Senhor Jesus Cristo, às doze tribos que [estão] na dispersão, saudações!
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into various trials;
Meus irmãos, tende toda alegria quando vos encontrardes em várias provações,
3 knowing that the proof of your faith produceth patience.
sabendo que a prova da vossa fé produz perseverança.
4 But let patience have its work perfected, that ye may be perfect and complete, deficient in nothing.
E que a perseverança tenha uma realização completa, para que sejais completos e íntegros, faltando em nada.
5 But if any man of you be deficient in wisdom, let him ask it of God, who giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not and it shall be given him.
Se algum de vós tem falta de sabedoria, peça a Deus, que concede generosamente a todos sem repreender, e lhe será dada.
6 But let him ask in faith, harbouring no doubt: for he who is doubtful is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind, and in constant agitation.
Porém deves pedi-la em fé, duvidando em nada; pois quem duvida é semelhante à onda do mar que é levada pelo vento, e lançada.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing from the Lord.
Tal pessoa não pense que receberá algo do Senhor.
8 A double-minded man is unsteady in all his ways.
O homem de dupla mentalidade [é] inconstante em todos os seus caminhos.
9 Let the brother low in station rejoice in his elevation:
Mas o irmão que é humilde se orgulhe quando é exaltado,
10 but the rich, in his abasement: for as the flower of grass he shall pass away.
e o que é rico quando é abatido, porque ele passará como a flor da erva.
11 For the sun arose with fervour, and burnt up the grass, and the flower of it fell off, and the beauty of its appearance was lost: just so the rich man in his course of life shall wither away.
Pois o sol sai com ardor, então seca a erva, a sua flor cai, e a beleza do seu aspecto perece; assim também o rico murchará nos seus caminhos.
12 Blessed is the man who patiently supports temptation: for when he is proved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to those who love him.
Bendito é o homem que suporta a provação; pois, quando for aprovado, receberá a coroa da vida, que [o Senhor] prometeu aos que o amam.
13 Let no man under temptation say, I am tempted of God: for God is incapable of temptation from evils, and he tempteth no man:
Ninguém, quando for tentado, diga: “Sou tentado por Deus”; porque Deus não é tentado pelo mal, e ele mesmo tenta ninguém;
14 but every person is tempted, when by his own peculiar passion he is born away, and ensnared.
Mas cada um é tentado quando é atraído e seduzido pelo seu próprio mau desejo.
15 Then passion impregnated, bringeth forth sin, and sin reaching its consummation, bringeth forth death.
Depois do mau desejo ter concebido, dá à luz o pecado; e o pecado, quando é completado, gera a morte.
16 Be not deceived, my beloved brethren.
Não vos enganeis, meus amados irmãos.
17 Every good gift, and every perfect gift, is from above, descending from the father of illuminations, with whom there is no variableness, nor shadow of change.
Toda boa dádiva e todo dom perfeito vem do alto, e desce do Pai das luzes, em quem não há mudança nem sombra de variação.
18 Of his own choice he produced us by the word of truth, that we might be a sort of first fruit of his creatures.―
Conforme a sua própria vontade, ele nos gerou pela palavra da verdade, para que fôssemos os primeiros frutos dentre as suas criaturas.
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
Entendei [isso], meus amados irmãos. Mas toda pessoa seja pronta para ouvir, tardia para falar, tardia para se irar;
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
porque a ira humana não cumpre a justiça de Deus.
21 Wherefore laying aside all vicious pollution, and the abundance of iniquity, receive with meekness the ingrafted word, which hath power to save your souls.
Por isso, rejeitai toda impureza e abundância de malícia, e recebei com mansidão a palavra implantada em [vós], que pode salvar as vossas almas;
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves by false reasoning.
e sede praticantes da palavra, e não somente ouvintes, enganando a vós mesmos.
23 For if any man be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man that looks at his natural face in a glass;
Pois, se alguém é ouvinte da palavra e não praticante, esse é semelhante a um homem que observa num espelho o seu rosto natural;
24 for he beheld himself, and went away, and immediately forgot what sort of person he was.
porque observou a si mesmo e saiu, e logo se esqueceu de como era.
25 But he that looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and perseveres, this man not being a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, he shall be blessed in his practice.
Mas aquele que dá atenção à lei perfeita, a da liberdade, e [nela] persevera, não sendo ouvinte que esquece, mas sim praticante da obra, esse tal será bendito no que fizer.
26 If any man thinks he is a religious character among you, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
Se alguém pensa ser religioso, mas não controla a sua língua, então engana o seu próprio coração, e a religião desse é vã.
27 Pure religion and undefiled with God even the Father is this, To pay diligent attention to the orphans and widows in their affliction, and to preserve himself spotless from the world.
A religião pura e não contaminada para com Deus e Pai é esta: visitar os órfãos e as viúvas nas suas aflições, e guardar-se sem a corrupção do mundo.
