Hebrews 10

1 NOW the law, having a shadow of the good things which were to come, not the very substance of the things, cannot possibly, by the same sacrifices which they offer year by year continually, make those perfect who approach God;

התורה רק רומזת על הברכות שהביא לנו המשיח; התורה עצמה לא יכלה לתת את אותן הברכות, ולכן לא היה בכוחה לטהר באופן מוחלט את מקריבי הקורבנות שבאו מדי שנה.

2 else they would have discontinued to make the offering, because they who performed the service being once made clean, would have had no more sense of sins on their conscience.

אילו יכלה התורה לטהר אותם באופן מושלם, אזי היה מספיק קורבן אחד; מקריבי הקורבנות היו מקבלים סליחת חטאים פעם אחת ולתמיד ומצפונם היה נקי מחטא.

3 But in these sacrifices there is a commemoration of sins every year.

אולם המציאות שונה: הקורבנות שהקריבו החוטאים מדי שנה הזכירו להם שוב ושוב את אשמתם וחטאיהם, במקום שיטהרו אותם!

4 For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sin.

מדוע? מפני שדם הפרים והשעירים אינו יכול לטהר מחטא.

5 Wherefore, coming into the world, he saith, “Sacrifice and oblation thou hast not chosen, but thou hast exactly fashioned a body for me:

משום כך, כאשר בא המשיח לעולם אמר:”זבח ומנחה לא חפצת, גוף כוננת לי,

6 thou hast had no delight in whole burnt-offerings and sacrifices for sin:

עולה וחטאה לא שאלת“. כלומר, המשיח אומר שהוא יודע כי אלוהים אינו חפץ בדם הפרים והשעירים, ועל כן הכין למשיח גוף שיוקרב כקורבן.

7 then I said, Here am I; (in the volume of the book it is written of me) I come to do thy will, O God.”

ועוד אמר:”הנה באתי – במגילת ספר כתוב עלי – לעשות רצונך, אלוהי“.

8 Having said before that sacrifice, and oblation, and whole burnt-offerings and sin-offerings thou hast not chosen, nor takest pleasure in, (which are offered according to the law, )

לאחר שאומר המשיח כי אלוהים אינו חפץ בדם הפרים והשעירים שדורשת התורה,

9 he then added, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He abolishes the first that he may establish the second.

הוא מוסיף:”הנה באתי לעשות רצונך, אלוהי“. המשיח ביטל את הברית הישנה כדי לתת תוקף לברית החדשה,

10 By the which will we are sanctified through the oblation of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all.

ובברית חדשה זאת נסלחו לנו חטאינו, טוהרנו וקודשנו על־ידי קורבנו של המשיח למעננו – קורבן שהוקרב פעם אחת ולתמיד.

11 And every priest standeth indeed daily performing the divine service, and frequently offering the same sacrifices, which cannot possibly take away sins:

על־פי הברית הישנה, על־פי התורה, הקריבו הכוהנים מדי יום קורבנות שמעולם לא יכלו לטהר מחטא.

12 but this person, having offered one sacrifice for sins, for ever hath seated himself at the right hand of God;

ואילו המשיח, לאחר שהקריב את עצמו לאלוהים בעד חטאים כקורבן אחד ולתמיד, ישב לנצח על כסא הכבוד לימין האלוהים.

13 henceforth waiting till his enemies be put as a footstool for his feet.

ומאז הוא מצפה שכל אויביו יוכנעו לרגליו.

14 For by one oblation he hath made those perfect for ever who are sanctified.

כי על־ידי הקורבן האחד השלים המשיח לנצח את פועלו למען אלה שאותם הוא משחרר מחטא.

15 Now the Holy Ghost also beareth this testimony to us: for after declaring before,

רוח הקודש מאשר דברים אלה באמירתו:

16 “This is the testament which I will appoint to them after those days, saith the Lord; giving my laws to their hearts, even on their minds will I inscribe them;”

”זאת הברית אשר אכרת את בית־ישראל אחרי הימים ההם, נאם ה׳: נתתי את תורתי בקרבם ועל לבם אכתבנה…

17 he adds, “and their sins and their iniquities I will in no wise remember any more.”

כי אסלח לעוונם ולחטאתם לא אזכר עוד“.

18 Now where there is remission of these, no more offering for sin is needed.

ואם נסלחו החטאים אחת ולתמיד, הרי שאין צורך בקורבנות נוספים כדי להשתחרר מהחטא.

19 Having therefore, brethren, entire liberty of entrance into the holies by the blood of Jesus―

אם כן, אחי, מאחר שדם המשיח מאפשר לנו עתה לבוא בביטחון אל קודש הקודשים

20 a way, which he hath consecrated for us, newly opened, and giving life, through the vail, that is, his flesh;

בדרך חדשה וחיה, (דרך שפילס למעננו המשיח בקרעו את הפרוכת שהיא גופו),

21 and having a great priest over the house of God,

ומאחר שיש לנו כהן גדול הממונה על בית אלוהים,

22 let us come to him with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and the body washed with pure water:

הבה ניכנס פנימה – אל אלוהים עצמו – בלב שלם ובביטחון מלא, מתוך ידיעה שלבנו ונפשנו טוהרו על־ידי דם המשיח שנשפך, וגופנו נרחץ במים טהורים.

23 let us hold fast the profession of hope unwavering, (for he who promises is faithful.)

עתה יכולים אנו לצפות לישועה שהבטיח לנו אלוהים. אין לנו כל ספק שאלוהים באמת יקיים את הבטחתו, ואנו יכולים להכריז על כך לפני כולם.

24 and let us attentively observe one another, to excite an ardour of love and of good works:

כהוקרה על כל מה שאלוהים עשה למעננו, הבה נקדיש תשומת־לב איש לרעהו, נעודד ונאהב איש את אחיו ונעזור זה לזה.

25 not deserting the assembling of ourselves together, as is the custom with some, but exhorting to it; and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

אל תזניחו את אסיפות הקהילה שלכם כפי שנוהגים אחדים מכם, אלא השתדלו כמיטב יכולתכם לעזור לאמונת הזולת, במיוחד עתה כשאנו רואים שקרב יום בואו של המשיח.

26 For if we sin wilfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no more sacrifice for sins remaineth;

אם אנו חוטאים בזדון לאחר שידענו את האמת והאמנו במשיח, קורבנו של המשיח אינו מכפר על חטאינו.

27 but a certain terrible expectation of judgment, and a burning indignation, ready to devour these enemies.

כן, מי שדחה את המשיח לאחר שידע את האמת, יוכל לצפות רק לעונש נורא – עונש שיבוא בעקבות זעמו של אלוהים אשר ישמיד את כל אויביו.

28 Any man who treated the law of Moses with neglect, was put to death, without mercy, on the deposition of two or three witnesses:

הרי אם אדם שסירב לקיים את תורת משה נידון למוות ללא רחמים (בתנאי ששניים, שלושה עדים ראוהו בחטאו),

29 by how much, think ye, shall he be counted worthy of more condign punishment who hath trampled on the Son of God, and regarded the blood of his testament, by which he was sanctified, as an unclean thing, and hath treated the gracious Spirit contumeliously?

תארו לעצמכם מה נורא יהיה עונשם של אלה שרומסים ברגליהם את בן־האלוהים, שמחללים את דם הברית הקדוש, ושמחרפים את רוח הקודש שמביא רחמים לבני־האדם.

30 For we know him who declares, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, saith the Lord.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.”

כי אנו מכירים היטב את מי שאמר:”לי נקם ושלם“. ו”ידין ה׳ עמו“.

31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

מה נורא ליפול בידי אלוהים חיים!

32 But remember the past days in which, after ye had been illuminated, ye endured a great conflict of sufferings;

לעולם אל תשכחו את הימים הנפלאים שבהם למדתם לראשונה על המשיח. לאחר שנפקחו עיניכם וראיתם את האמת נשארתם נאמנים למשיח, אף כי מחיר הנאמנות הזאת היא סבל נורא.

33 partly while publicly exposed to revilings and tribulations, partly as being in communion with those who were treated in this manner.

לפעמים לעגו לכם והכו אתכם, ופעמים אחרות אתם בעצמכם השתתפתם בצערם של הסובלים כמוכם.

34 For ye have been fellow-sufferers with my bonds, and received with joy the plundering of your properties, knowing in yourselves that you have in the heavens a better substance, and permanent.

ריחמתם על אחיכם שהושלכו לכלא, וקיבלתם בשמחה את העובדה שכל רכושכם נגזל, כי ידעתם שמצפה לכם בשמים אוצר טוב מזה – אוצר שיהיה שלכם לנצח.

35 Recede not therefore from your boldness of profession, which brings a great recompence of reward.

יקרה אשר יקרה, שימרו על ביטחונכם באדוננו! זכרו, ביטחונכם זה יזכה אתכם בשכר רב.

36 For ye have need of patience, that after ye have done the will of God, ye may receive the promise.

אם אתם רוצים שה׳ יקיים את כל אשר הבטיח לכם, עליכם למלא בסבלנות את רצונו,

37 For yet a little, very little while, and he that is coming will come, and will not delay.

כי בואו לא יתעכב עוד זמן רב.

38 “The just man then will live by faith;” and if he draw back, my soul shall have no delight in him.

אלה שאמונתם הקנתה להם מעמד של צדיקים בעיני אלוהים, צריכים לחיות באמונה ולבטוח באלוהים שיספק את כל מחסורם. אם ייסוגו, אלוהים לא ירצה בהם יותר.

39 But we are not of those who turn back unto perdition; but of those who believe to the salvation of the soul.

אבל אנחנו איננו מן הנסוגים ואיננו מפנים עורף לאלוהים, כי בכך נחרוץ את גזר דיננו. אנחנו מאמינים באלוהים מושיענו.
