Acts 1
1 THE former treatise, Theophilus, I composed, concerning all things which Jesus began both to do and to teach,
হে থিয়ফিল, আমার আগের বইতে আমি সেইসব বিষয় লিখেছি, যেগুলি যীশু সম্পন্ন করতে ও শিক্ষা দিতে শুরু করেছিলেন,
2 until that day, when having given a charge to his apostles through the Holy Ghost, whom he had chosen, he was taken up:
সেদিন পর্যন্ত, যখন তিনি তাঁর মনোনীত প্রেরিতশিষ্যদের পবিত্র আত্মার মাধ্যমে বিভিন্ন নির্দেশদান করার পর ঊর্ধ্বে নীত হন।
3 to whom also he had shewed himself alive, after he had suffered, by many infallible proofs, during forty days being frequently seen by them, and speaking of the things which relate to the kingdom of God:
তাঁর কষ্টভোগের পর, তিনি এসব মানুষের কাছে নিজেকে দেখা দিলেন এবং বহু বিশ্বাসযোগ্য প্রমাণ দিলেন যে, তিনি জীবিত আছেন। চল্লিশ দিন অবধি তিনি তাঁদের কাছে দেখা দিলেন এবং ঈশ্বরের রাজ্য সম্পর্কে শিক্ষা দিলেন।
4 and assembling them together, commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, said he, ye have heard from me.
একবার, যখন তিনি তাদের সঙ্গে খাবার খাচ্ছিলেন তখন তিনি তাঁদের এই আদেশ দিলেন, “তোমরা জেরুশালেম ছেড়ে যেয়ো না, কিন্তু আমার পিতার প্রতিশ্রুতি দেওয়া যে দানের কথা আমাকে বলতে শুনেছ, তাঁর অপেক্ষায় থেকো।
5 For John indeed baptised with water; but ye shall be baptised with the Holy Ghost not many days after the present.
কারণ যোহন জলে বাপ্তিষ্ম দিতেন ঠিকই, কিন্তু কয়েকদিনের মধ্যে তোমরা পবিত্র আত্মায় বাপ্তিষ্ম লাভ করবে।”
6 They then accordingly assembling together, asked him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time reestablish the kingdom of Israel?
পরে তাঁরা যখন একত্র মিলিত হলেন, তাঁরা তাঁকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “প্রভু, আপনি কি এই সময়ে ইস্রায়েলীদের কাছে রাজ্য ফিরিয়ে দিতে চলেছেন?”
7 But he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times and the seasons, which the Father hath reserved under his own authority.
তিনি তাঁদের বললেন, “পিতা তাঁর নিজস্ব অধিকারে যে সময় ও দিন নির্দিষ্ট করে রেখেছেন, সেসব তোমাদের জানার কথা নয়।
8 But ye shall receive power, when the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses for me, both in Jerusalem, and throughout all Judea, and Samaria, and unto the extremity of the earth.
কিন্তু পবিত্র আত্মা তোমাদের উপরে এলে তোমরা শক্তি লাভ করবে, আর তোমরা জেরুশালেমে ও সমস্ত যিহূদিয়ায় ও শমরিয়ায় এবং পৃথিবীর প্রান্তসীমা পর্যন্ত আমার সাক্ষী হবে।”
9 And as he was speaking these things, while they were looking upon him, he was taken up; and a cloud enveloping him hid him from their eyes.
একথা বলার পর তাঁকে তাঁদের চোখের সামনেই স্বর্গে তুলে নেওয়া হল ও একখণ্ড মেঘ তাঁকে তাঁদের দৃষ্টির আড়াল করে দিল।
10 And as they looked up earnestly into the heaven, while he was passing, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
তিনি যখন যাচ্ছিলেন, তাঁরা অপলক দৃষ্টিতে আকাশের দিকে তাকিয়েছিলেন, তখন হঠাৎই সাদা পোশাক পরে দুজন পুরুষ তাঁদের পাশে এসে দাঁড়ালেন।
11 who also said to them, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up to heaven? this Jesus, who hath been taken up from you into heaven, shall so come, in the same manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
তাঁরা বললেন, “হে গালীলীয়রা, তোমরা এখানে কেন আকাশের দিকে তাকিয়ে দাঁড়িয়ে আছ? এই একই যীশু, যাঁকে তোমাদের মধ্য থেকে স্বর্গে নিয়ে যাওয়া হল, তাঁকে যেভাবে স্বর্গে যেতে দেখলে, ঠিক সেভাবেই তিনি ফিরে আসবেন।”
12 Then they returned unto Jerusalem, from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, about a sabbath-day’s journey distant.
এরপর তাঁরা “জলপাই পর্বত” নামক পাহাড় থেকে জেরুশালেমে ফিরে এলেন। নগর থেকে তা ছিল এক বিশ্রামদিনের হাঁটাপথ।
13 And when they had arrived, they went up to an upper room, where abode Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James son of Alpheus, and Simon the zealous, and Jude brother to James.
তাঁরা যখন নগরে পৌঁছালেন, তাঁরা উপরতলার সেই ঘরে গেলেন, যেখানে তাঁরা থাকতেন। সেখানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন: পিতর, যোহন, যাকোব ও আন্দ্রিয়, ফিলিপ ও থোমা, বর্থলময় ও মথি, আলফেয়ের ছেলে যাকোব এবং জিলট দলভুক্ত শিমোন ও যাকোবের ছেলে যিহূদা।
14 These all persevered unanimously in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
তাঁরা সকলে এবং কয়েকজন মহিলা, যীশুর মা মরিয়ম ও তাঁর ভাইরা একযোগে প্রার্থনায় ক্রমাগত লেগে রইলেন।
15 And in those days arose Peter in the midst of the disciples, and said, (there was a number of persons together, about an hundred and twenty, )
সেই সময় একদিন পিতর বিশ্বাসীদের (প্রায় একশো কুড়ি জনের একটি দল) মধ্যে উঠে দাঁড়ালেন।
16 Men and brethren, it must needs be that this scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost delivered before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was the conductor of those who seized on Jesus.
তিনি বললেন, “সকল ভাই ও বোন, যীশুকে যারা গ্রেপ্তার করেছিল, তাদের পথপ্রদর্শক যে যিহূদা, তার সম্পর্কে অনেক আগে দাউদের মাধ্যমে পবিত্র আত্মা যে কথা বলেছিলেন, সেই শাস্ত্রবাণী পূর্ণ হওয়া আবশ্যক ছিল।
17 For he was reckoned of our number, and had obtained an appointment to this ministry.
সে আমাদেরই একজন ছিল এবং আমাদের এই পরিচর্যায় অংশগ্রহণ করেছিল।”
18 This man indeed accordingly purchased a spot of ground with the wages of iniquity; and projected forward, he burst in the midst, and all his bowels fell out.
তার দুষ্টতার জন্য সে যে পুরস্কার পেয়েছিল, তা দিয়ে যিহূদা একটি জমি কিনেছিল। সেখানেই সে নিচের দিকে মাথা করে পড়ে গেল, তার শরীর ফেটে ছিন্নভিন্ন হয়ে গেল ও তার সমস্ত অন্ত্র বেরিয়ে পড়ল।
19 And it was a fact known to all who dwelt at Jerusalem; so that this field is called in their own dialect, Aceldama, that is, The field of blood.
জেরুশালেমের সকলে একথা শুনতে পেল, তাই তারা তাদের ভাষায় সেই জমির নাম দিল হকলদামা, যার অর্থ, রক্তক্ষেত্র।
20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let there be no man to dwell in it: and his office, as bishop, let another take.
পিতর বললেন, “বস্তুত, গীতসংহিতায় লেখা আছে, “‘তার বাসস্থান শূন্য হোক; সেখানে বসবাস করার জন্য যেন কেউ না থাকে,’ আবার, “‘অন্য কেউ যেন তার নেতৃত্বের পদে নিযুক্ত হয়।’
21 Wherefore from among the men who have associated with us always during the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
অতএব, প্রভু যীশু যতদিন আমাদের সঙ্গে বাস করেছিলেন এবং সেই সময়ে আমাদের মধ্যে যারা উপস্থিত ছিলেন, তাদেরই একজনকে মনোনীত করা আবশ্যক,
22 beginning from his baptism by John, until the day in which he was taken up from us, must there be chosen with us a witness of his resurrection, even one of these.
অর্থাৎ, যোহনের বাপ্তিষ্ম দেওয়ার সময় থেকে শুরু করে আমাদের মধ্য থেকে যীশুর স্বর্গে নীত হওয়ার সময় পর্যন্ত। কারণ এদেরই মধ্যে একজন ব্যক্তিকে আমাদের সঙ্গে তাঁর পুনরুত্থানের সাক্ষী হতে হবে।”
23 So they appointed two persons, Joseph called Barsabas, whose sirname was Justus, and Matthias.
তখন তাঁরা দুজনের নাম প্রস্তাব করলেন: বার্শব্বা নামে আখ্যাত যোষেফ (ইনি যুষ্ট নামেও পরিচিত ছিলেন), ও মত্তথিয়।
24 And joining in prayer, they said, Do thou, O Lord, who knowest the hearts of all men, point out the one of these two which thou hast chosen,
তারপর তাঁরা প্রার্থনা করলেন, “প্রভু, তুমি সকলের অন্তর জানো। আমাদের দেখিয়ে দাও, এই দুজনের মধ্যে তুমি কাকে মনোনীত করেছ,
25 to take a part in this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, to go to his own place.
যে এই প্রৈরিতিক পরিচর্যার ভার গ্রহণ করবে, যা যিহূদা ত্যাগ করে তার যেখানে যাওয়া উচিত ছিল, সেখানে গিয়েছে।”
26 And they drew lots for them and the lot fell to Matthias and he was by unanimous suffrage numbered with the eleven apostles.
পরে তাঁরা গুটিকাপাত করলেন ও মত্তথিয়ের নামে গুটি উঠল। এইভাবে তিনি সেই এগারোজন প্রেরিতশিষ্যের সঙ্গে যুক্ত হলেন।
