1 Corinthians 1
1 PAUL, a called apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Sosthenes a brother,
Paul, appelé à être apôtre de Christ Jésus par la volonté de Dieu, et le frère Sosthène,
2 to the church of God which is at Corinth, sanctified in Christ Jesus, to the called saints, with all those who invoke the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, both their’s and our’s:
à l'église de Dieu qui est dans Corinthe, et dont les membres sanctifiés en Christ Jésus sont appelés à être saints, ainsi qu'à tous ceux qui invoquent le nom de notre seigneur Jésus-Christ en tous lieux, les leurs et les nôtres:
3 grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
que la grâce et la paix vous soient données par Dieu notre Père et par le seigneur Jésus-Christ!
4 I give thanks to my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which hath been given you in Christ Jesus;
Je rends perpétuellement des actions de grâces à Dieu pour vous, à cause de la grâce de Dieu qui vous a été donnée en Christ Jésus,
5 that in every thing ye have been enriched by him, in all utterance, and all knowledge;
car vous avez été enrichis en lui de toute manière en tout ce qui concerne le discours et la connaissance,
6 thus the testimony of Jesus hath been confirmed among you:
à proportion de ce que le témoignage de Christ s'est affermi en vous,
7 so that ye have not been deficient in any gift; waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ:
en sorte que vous n'êtes dépourvus d'aucun don, vous qui attendez la révélation de notre seigneur Jésus-Christ,
8 who shall confirm you to the end blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
qui, de son côté, vous affermira jusques à la fin, de sorte que vous serez irrépréhensibles dans la journée de notre seigneur Jésus.
9 Faithful is God, by whom ye have been called into communion with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
Il est fidèle, Dieu par qui vous avez été appelés à être associés à Son fils Jésus notre Seigneur!
10 Now I conjure you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no schisms among you; but that ye be perfectly united together in the same mind and the same sentiment.
Mais je vous exhorte, frères, au nom de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, à tenir tous le même langage, et à ce qu'il n'y ait pas de divisions parmi vous, mais que vous soyez parfaitement unis d'intelligence et d'opinion.
11 For I have been informed concerning you, my brethren, by those of the family of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
Car j'ai été informé en ce qui vous concerne, mes frères, par les gens de Chloé, qu'il y a des querelles parmi vous;
12 Now this I observe, that one and another of you saith, I am indeed of Paul; but I of Apollos; but I of Cephas; but I am of Christ.
je veux dire, que chacun de vous s'exprime ainsi: « Quant à moi je tiens pour Paul » — « Moi, c'est pour Apollos. » — « Moi, c'est pour Céphas. » — « Moi, c'est pour Christ. »
13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptised into the name of Paul?
Christ est-il partagé? Est-ce que Paul a été crucifié pour vous, ou bien est-ce au nom de Paul que vous avez été baptisés?
14 I thank God that I baptised none of you, except Crispus and Gaius;
Je rends grâces de ce que je n'ai baptisé aucun de vous, sauf Crispus et Gaïus,
15 that no man might say, I baptised into my own name.
afin que personne ne dise que vous avez été baptisés en mon nom;
16 And I also baptised the household of Stephanus: besides these, I know not if I baptised any other person.
j'ai bien encore baptisé la famille de Stéphanas; du reste je ne sache pas que j'aie baptisé quelque autre personne.
17 For Christ sent me not to baptise, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of discourse, lest the cross of Christ should be slighted.
En effet Christ ne m'a pas envoyé pour baptiser, mais pour annoncer la bonne nouvelle; mais non pas avec une sagesse éloquente, afin que la croix de Christ ne fût pas rendue vaine;
18 For the discourse, the subject of which is the cross, is indeed to those who perish, folly; but to us who are saved it is the power of God.
car, tandis que la prédication de la croix est une folie pour ceux qui périssent, pour nous qui sommes sauvés elle est une puissance de Dieu;
19 For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the understanding of the intelligent will I make useless.”
en effet il est écrit: « Je détruirai la sagesse des sages, J'anéantirai l'intelligence des intelligents. »
20 Where is the sophist? where is the scribe? where is the inquisitive searcher after this world’s wisdom? hath not God turned into folly the wisdom of this world? (aiōn g165)
Où y a-t-il un sage? Où un scribe? Où un disputeur de ce siècle? Dieu n'a-t-Il pas frappé de folie la sagesse du monde? » (aiōn g165)
21 for since in the wisdom of God the world by its wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
Car, comme dans la sagesse de Dieu le monde n'a pas reconnu Dieu par la sagesse, Dieu a jugé bon de sauver les croyants par la folie de la prédication,
22 For the Jews demand a miracle, and the Greeks seek wisdom:
puisque, tandis que les Juifs demandent des miracles et que les Grecs de leur côté recherchent la sagesse,
23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews indeed an offence, and to the Greeks folly;
du nôtre nous prêchons Christ crucifié, pour les Juifs un scandale, et pour les Gentils une folie,
24 but to those who are called, whether Jews or Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
mais pour eux-mêmes, quand ils ont été appelés, soit Juifs soit Grecs, Christ puissance de Dieu et sagesse de Dieu;
25 For this foolishness of God is wiser than men; and this weakness of God is stronger than men.
car la folie de Dieu est plus sage que les hommes, et la faiblesse de Dieu est plus forte que les hommes.
26 For ye see your calling, brethren, that not many fleshly wise, not many men in power, not many men of high birth, are called:
Considérez en effet, frères, que l'appel qui vous a été adressé ne concerne ni beaucoup de sages selon la chair, ni beaucoup de puissants, ni beaucoup de nobles;
27 but the foolish things of this world hath God elected, that he might confound the wise; and the feeble things of the world hath God elected, that he might confound the mighty;
mais Dieu a choisi les choses folles du monde afin de confondre les sages, et Dieu a choisi les choses faibles du monde, afin de confondre les fortes,
28 and the ignoble things of the world, and the despicable, hath God elected, and the things that are not, to bring to nought the things which are,
et Dieu a choisi les choses basses du monde et celles qui sont méprisées et celles qui ne sont rien, pour renverser celles qui sont,
29 that no flesh should glory in his presence.
afin que personne ne s'enorgueillisse devant Dieu.
30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who hath been made to us of God wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
Or c'est à Lui que vous devez d'être unis à Christ Jésus qui, par la volonté de Dieu, est devenu notre sagesse, notre justice, notre sanctification et notre rédemption,
31 that, as it is written, “He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.”
afin que, comme il est écrit: « Que celui qui s'enorgueillit s'enorgueillisse dans le Seigneur! »
