< John 7 >
1 After these things, Jesus walked in Galilee, for He didn’t want to walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill Him.
Njalo emva kwalezizinto uJesu wayehamba eGalili; ngoba wayengathandi ukuhamba eJudiya, ngenxa yokuthi amaJuda ayedinga ukumbulala.
2 Now the Jews’ Feast of Tabernacles was near.
Wawusondele umkhosi wamaJuda wokwakha amadumba.
3 Therefore His brothers told Him, “Leave here and go to Judea, so that Your disciples will see the works that You are doing, too.
Ngakho abafowabo bathi kuye: Suka lapha, uye eJudiya, ukuze labafundi bakho babone imisebenzi yakho oyenzayo.
4 Nobody does anything in secret while he seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.”
Ngoba kakho owenza ulutho ensitha, kodwa yena ngokwakhe edinga ukuba sobala. Uba uzenza lezizinto, ziveze wena emhlabeni.
5 For even His brothers didn’t believe in Him.
Ngoba labafowabo babengakholwa kuye.
6 Then Jesus told them, “My time hasn’t yet come, but your time is always right.
Ngakho uJesu wathi kubo: Isikhathi sami kasikafiki, kodwa esenu isikhathi sihlala silungile.
7 The world can’t hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its works are evil.
Ungelizonde umhlaba lina; kodwa uyangizonda, ngoba mina ngifakaza ngawo, ukuthi imisebenzi yawo mibi.
8 Go up to this feast yourselves. I’m not going up to this feast, yet, for my time hasn’t yet fully come.”
Yenyukelani lina emkhosini lo; mina angikenyukeli kulumkhosi, ngoba isikhathi sami kasikagcwaliseki.
9 Having said these things to them, He stayed in Galilee.
Esetshilo lezizinto kubo, wahlala eGalili.
10 When His brothers had gone up to the feast, however, Jesus also went up, not publicly, but in secret.
Kodwa sebenyukile abafowabo, laye wasesenyukela emkhosini, kungeyisikho obala, kodwa kungathi kusensitha.
11 The Jews were looking for Him at the feast, and saying, “Where is He?”
AmaJuda asemdinga emkhosini, athi: Ungaphi yena?
12 There was much complaining among the people about Him. Some said, “He is good,” but others said, “No, He deceives the people.”
Kwakukhona ukukhonona okukhulu ngaye phakathi kwamaxuku; abanye bathi: Ulungile. Kodwa abanye bathi: Hatshi, kodwa uyaliduhisa ixuku.
13 No one spoke openly of Him for fear of the Jews.
Loba kunjalo kwakungekho muntu owakhuluma obala ngaye ngokwesaba amaJuda.
14 About the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and began to teach.
Kuthe sekuphakathi komkhosi, uJesu wenyukela ethempelini, wafundisa.
15 The Jews marveled, saying, “How does this man know letters, having never been educated?”
AmaJuda asemangala athi: Lo uyazi njani imibhalo, engafundanga?
16 Jesus answered, “My teaching isn’t mine, but His who sent me.
UJesu wawaphendula wathi: Imfundiso yami kayisiyo eyami kodwa ngeyalowo ongithumileyo.
17 Anyone who wants to do His will shall know if the teaching is from God or if I speak on my own.
Uba umuntu ethanda ukwenza intando yakhe, uzakwazi ngemfundiso, ukuthi ivela kuNkulunkulu, kumbe ngizikhulumela mina ngokwami.
18 The one who speaks on his own seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him.
Ozikhulumela ngokwakhe, uzidingela udumo lwakhe; kodwa odinga udumo lwalowo omthumileyo, lowo uqinisile, njalo kakukho ukungalungi kuye.
19 Didn’t Moses give you the Law, yet none of you keeps the Law? Why are you trying to kill me?”
Kalinikanga yini uMozisi umlayo, kanti kakho kini ogcina umlayo? Lidingelani ukungibulala?
20 The people answered, “You have a demon. Who is trying to kill You?”
Ixuku laphendula lathi: Uledimoni; ngubani odinga ukukubulala?
21 Jesus answered, “I did one work, and you all marvel.
UJesu waphendula wathi kubo: Ngenze umsebenzi owodwa, njalo lonke liyamangala.
22 Moses gave you circumcision (not that it’s from Moses, but from the forefathers), and you circumcise a boy on the Sabbath.
Ngakho uMozisi walinika ukusoka (kungeyisikho ukuthi kwavela kuMozisi, kodwa kubobaba), njalo liyamsoka umuntu langesabatha.
23 If a boy gets circumcised on the Sabbath, so that the Law of Moses should not be broken, are you angry with me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath?
Uba ngesabatha umuntu esemukela ukusoka, ukuze kungephulwa umlayo kaMozisi, lingithukuthelela ngoba ngaphilisa umuntu ngokupheleleyo ngesabatha yini?
24 Don’t judge by appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”
Lingahluleli ngokubona, kodwa yahlulelani ukwahlulela okuqondileyo.
25 Some of the people of Jerusalem said, “Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill?
Abanye kwabeJerusalema basebesithi: Lo kayisuye yini abadinga ukumbulala?
26 Look! He is speaking boldly, and they say nothing to Him. The rulers haven’t really concluded that this is the Christ, have they?
Kodwa khangela ukhuluma obala, kodwa kabatsho lutho kuye. Kungaba yikuthi ababusi sebesazi oqotho ukuthi lo unguKristu uqobo yini?
27 Still, we know where this man is from, but when the Christ comes, no one will know where He is from.”
Kodwa lo siyazi lapho avela khona; kodwa uKristu nxa efika, kakho ozakwazi lapho avela khona.
28 Then Jesus cried out, as He taught in the temple, “You know me, and you know where I’m from. I haven’t come of my own accord, but He who sent me is true, who you don’t know.
Ngakho uJesu efundisa ethempelini wamemeza wathi: Lami liyangazi, liyakwazi lalapho engivela khona; njalo kangizizelanga ngokwami, kodwa ongithumileyo uqinisile, elingamaziyo lina.
29 I know Him, because I am from Him, and He sent me.”
Kodwa ngiyamazi mina, ngoba ngivela kuye, njalo yena ungithumile.
30 Because of this, they were seeking to seize Him, but no one laid hands on Him, because His time had not yet come.
Ngakho badinga ukumbamba, kodwa kakubanga khona owabeka isandla phezu kwakhe, ngoba ihola lakhe lalingakafiki.
31 Many of the people believed in Him, saying, “When the Christ comes, will He do more signs than this man has done?”
Kodwa abanengi bexuku bakholwa kuye, bathi: Nxa uKristu esefikile, uzakwenza yini izibonakaliso ezinengi kulalezi azenzileyo lo?
32 The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things about Jesus, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to seize Him.
AbaFarisi bezwa ixuku likhonona lezizinto ngaye; abapristi abakhulu labaFarisi basebethuma abancedisi ukuze bambambe.
33 Then Jesus told them, “I will be with you a little while longer, and then I am going to Him who sent me.
UJesu wasesithi kubo: Ngiselani okwesikhatshana, besengihamba ngiye kongithumileyo.
34 You will look for me, and not find me, and where I am, you can’t come.”
Lizangidinga, lingangitholi, lalapho mina engikhona, lina lingeze leza.
35 Then the Jews said among themselves, “Where does He intend to go that we won’t be able to find Him? He doesn’t intend to go to the dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks, does He?
Ngakho amaJuda akhulumisana athi: Uzakuya ngaphi lo ukuthi thina singayikumthola? Kayikuya yini kwabahlakazekileyo bamaGriki, afundise amaGriki?
36 What does He mean by saying, ‘You will look for me, and not find me, and where I am, you can’t come’?”
Yilizwi bani leli alitshoyo elokuthi: Lizangidinga, aliyikungithola; lelokuthi: Lapho engikhona mina, lina lingeze leza?
37 On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and declared loudly, “If anyone is thirsty, let that person come to me and drink.
Kwathi ngosuku lokucina olukhulu lomkhosi uJesu wema wamemeza, esithi: Uba ekhona owomileyo, keze kimi anathe.
38 Rivers of living water will flow from within whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said.”
Okholwa kimi, njengokutsho kombhalo, kuzageleza kuphuma esiswini sakhe imifula yamanzi aphilayo.
39 He said this about the Spirit, who those believing in Him would receive. The Holy Spirit wasn’t yet given, because Jesus wasn’t yet glorified.
Lalokhu wakutsho ngoMoya ababezamemukela abakholwa kuye; ngoba uMoya oNgcwele wayengakafiki, lokhu uJesu wayengakadunyiswa.
40 When they heard these words, many in the crowd were saying, “This is really the prophet.”
Ngakho abanengi bexuku besizwa lelilizwi bathi: Oqotho lo ungulowomProfethi.
41 Others were saying, “This is the Christ,” but some were saying, “Surely the Christ isn’t going to come from Galilee, is He?
Abanye bathi: Lo unguKristu. Kodwa abanye bathi: Kambe uKristu uzavela eGalili?
42 Hasn’t the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?”
Kawutsho yini umbhalo ukuthi uKristu uzavela enzalweni kaDavida, leBhethelehema, emzaneni lapho uDavida ayekhona?
43 So there was a division among the crowd because of Jesus.
Ngakho kwaba khona ukwehlukana ngaye phakathi kwexuku.
44 Some of them wanted to seize Him, but no one laid hands on Him.
Abanye babo bafuna ukumbamba, kodwa kakubanga khona owambeka izandla.
45 When the officers went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, they asked them, “Why didn’t you bring Him in?”
Khona abancedisi baya kubapristi abakhulu lakubaFarisi; bona basebesithi kubo: Kungani lingamlethanga?
46 The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this man!”
Abancedisi baphendula bathi: Kakuzange kukhulume umuntu kanje, njengalumuntu.
47 Then the Pharisees answered, “You haven’t been deceived, too, have you?
AbaFarisi basebebaphendula bathi: Lani seliduhisiwe yini?
48 Have any of the rulers or Pharisees believed in Him?
Ukhona yini kubabusi kumbe kubaFarisi okholwe kuye?
49 But this accursed crowd doesn’t know the Law.”
Kodwa lelixuku elingawaziyo umlayo liqalekisiwe.
50 Nicodemus (who came to Jesus before, being one of them) asked them,
UNikodima, lowo oweza kuye ebusuku, owayengomunye wabo, wathi kubo:
51 “Does our Law permit us to judge a man before hearing him and finding out what he is doing?”
Kanti umlayo wakithi uyamgweba umuntu, ngaphandle kokuthi umuzwe kuqala ukwazi akwenzayo?
52 They answered him, “You aren’t from Galilee, too, are you? Search and you will see that no prophet comes out of Galilee.”
Baphendula bathi kuye: Kanti lawe ungoweGalili? Hlolisisa ubone ukuthi kakuvukanga umprofethi eGalili.
53 Then everyone went home,
Ngulowo lalowo wasesuka waya ekhaya.
