1 John 4
1 Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Teman-teman yang terkasih, jangan percaya setiap roh, tetapi ujilah roh-roh itu untuk mengetahui apakah mereka berasal dari Allah, karena ada banyak nabi palsu di dunia ini.
2 This is how you know God’s Spirit: every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God.
Bagaimana kalian bisa mengenali Roh Allah? Setiap roh yang menerima Yesus Kristus datang ke dunia ini dengan tubuh manusia berasal dari Allah
3 Every spirit that fails to acknowledge Jesus isn’t from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming, and now it is already in the world.
sementara setiap roh yang tidak menerima Yesus, roh itu bukan dari Allah. Sesungguhnya itu adalah roh antikristus yang kalian dengar akan datang, dan yang sudah ada di dunia.
4 You are from God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
Tetapi kita adalah milik Allah, teman-temanku, dan kita sudah mengalahkan mereka, karena Roh yang ada di dalam kita lebih besar dari pada roh yang ada di dunia.
5 They are from the world, therefore they talk like they are from the world, and the world listens to them.
Mereka milik dunia, jadi mereka berbicara seperti orang dunia, dan dunia mendengarkan mereka.
6 We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us. Whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
Kita adalah milik Allah dan siapa pun yang mengenal Allah mendengarkan kita, sementara siapa pun yang bukan milik Allah tidak mendengarkan kita. Beginilah cara kita membedakan Roh Kebenaran dari roh tipu daya.
7 Beloved, let us sincerely love one another, for sincere love is from God, and everyone who sincerely loves is born of God and knows God.
Teman-teman yang terkasih, mari kita terus saling mengasihi, karena kasih datang dari Allah. Semua orang yang mengasihi berasal dari Allah dan mengenal Allah.
8 The one who doesn’t sincerely love doesn’t know God, for God is sincere love.
Mereka yang tidak mengasihi tidak mengenal Allah, karena Allah adalah kasih.
9 The sincere love of God was manifested in us by this, that God has sent His only born Son into the world so that we might live through Him.
Bagaimana kasih Allah diperlihatkan kepada kita? Allah mengutus Putra-Nya, satu-satunya, ke dunia sehingga kita bisa hidup melalui Dia.
10 In this is sincere love: not that we sincerely loved God, but that He sincerely loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Inilah kasih itu! Bukan karena kita sudah mengasihi Allah, tetapi karena Dia sudah mengasihi kita, dan Dia mengutus Putra-Nya untuk menjadi rekonsiliasi bagi dosa-dosa kita.
11 Beloved, if God sincerely loved us like this, we ought to sincerely love one another, too.
Sahabat, jika ini adalah cara Allah mengasihi kita, kita harus mengasihi satu sama lain seperti ini juga.
12 No one has ever seen God, but if we sincerely love one another, God lives in us and His sincere love is made complete in us.
Tidak ada yang pernah melihat Allah. Namun, jika kita saling mengasihi maka Allah tinggal di dalam kita, dan kasih-Nya disempurnakan di dalam kita.
13 This is how we know that we live in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.
Bagaimana kita dapat mengetahui bahwa kita hidup di dalam dia, dan bahwa Dia hidup di dalam kita? Dia memberi kita kemampuan untuk mengasihi dengan Roh-Nya.
14 We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world.
Karena kami adalah saksi dari apa yang sudah kami lihat dan bersaksi bahwa Bapa mengutus Putra-Nya sebagai Juruselamat dunia.
15 God lives in whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, and that person lives in God.
Allah berdiam di dalam setiap orang yang menyatakan bahwa Yesus adalah Anak Allah, dan mereka berdiam di dalam Allah.
16 We have come to know and have believed the sincere love which God has for us. God is sincere love. One who lives in sincere love lives in God, and God lives in him.
Kita sudah mengalami dan mempercayai kasih yang Allah sediakan bagi kita. Allah adalah kasih, dan mereka yang hidup dalam kasih, hidup di dalam Allah, dan Allah hidup di dalam mereka.
17 Sincere love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have confident boldness on the judgment day, because as He is, so are we in this world.
Beginilah kasih menjadi lengkap dalam diri kita sehingga kita dapat yakin pada Hari Penghakiman: oleh kenyataan bahwa kita memiliki gaya hidup yang sama seperti Dia di dunia ini.
18 There is no fear in sincere love, but perfect, sincere love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment. But whoever fears has not been made perfect in sincere love.
Di mana ada kasih tidak ada rasa takut. Allah mengasihi kita sepenuhnya, dan kasih ini menyingkirkan semua ketakutan kita. Jika kita benar-benar takut, itu karena kita takut dihukum, dan ini menunjukkan bahwa kita belum sepenuhnya diciptakan kembali oleh kelengkapan kasih Allah.
19 We sincerely love, because He first sincerely loved us.
Kita mengasihi karena Dia lebih dulu mengasihi kita.
20 If someone says, “I sincerely love God,” and hates his brother or sister, he is a liar. If someone doesn’t sincerely love a brother or sister he has seen, how can he sincerely love God whom he hasn’t seen?
Siapa pun yang berkata, “Aku mengasihi Allah,” tetapi membenci saudara atau saudari Kristen, adalah pembohong. Siapapun yang tidak mengasihi seorang saudara yang dapat mereka lihat, tidak dapat mengasihi Allah yang tidak dapat mereka lihat.
21 This commandment we have from Him: that whoever sincerely loves God must sincerely love his brothers and sisters, too.
Ini adalah perintah yang Dia berikan kepada kita: mereka yang mengasihi Allah juga mengasihi saudara dan saudari mereka.
