< Mark 12 >

1 And He began to speak to them in parables. A man planted a vineyard, and placed a hedge round it, and dug a wine-trough; and built a tower, and he gave it out to husbandmen, and went away.
anantaraṁ yīśu rdṛṣṭāntena tebhyaḥ kathayitumārebhe, kaścideko drākṣākṣetraṁ vidhāya taccaturdikṣu vāraṇīṁ kṛtvā tanmadhye drākṣāpeṣaṇakuṇḍam akhanat, tathā tasya gaḍamapi nirmmitavān tatastatkṣetraṁ kṛṣīvaleṣu samarpya dūradeśaṁ jagāma|
2 And he sent a servant to the husbandmen in the season, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard:
tadanantaraṁ phalakāle kṛṣīvalebhyo drākṣākṣetraphalāni prāptuṁ teṣāṁ savidhe bhṛtyam ekaṁ prāhiṇot|
3 and they taking him, beat him, and sent him away empty.
kintu kṛṣīvalāstaṁ dhṛtvā prahṛtya riktahastaṁ visasṛjuḥ|
4 And again he sent to them another servant; and stoning him they wounded him in the head, and sent him away dishonored.
tataḥ sa punaranyamekaṁ bhṛtyaṁ praṣayāmāsa, kintu te kṛṣīvalāḥ pāṣāṇāghātaistasya śiro bhaṅktvā sāpamānaṁ taṁ vyasarjan|
5 And again he sent another; and they slew him, and many others beating some, killing others.
tataḥ paraṁ soparaṁ dāsaṁ prāhiṇot tadā te taṁ jaghnuḥ, evam anekeṣāṁ kasyacit prahāraḥ kasyacid vadhaśca taiḥ kṛtaḥ|
6 Then having still one son, his own beloved, he sent him also to them last, saying; That they will reverence my son.
tataḥ paraṁ mayā svaputre prahite te tamavaśyaṁ sammaṁsyante, ityuktvāvaśeṣe teṣāṁ sannidhau nijapriyam advitīyaṁ putraṁ preṣayāmāsa|
7 And those husbandmen said to one another; This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.
kintu kṛṣīvalāḥ parasparaṁ jagaduḥ, eṣa uttarādhikārī, āgacchata vayamenaṁ hanmastathā kṛte 'dhikāroyam asmākaṁ bhaviṣyati|
8 And taking him they slew him, and cast him out of the vineyard.
tatastaṁ dhṛtvā hatvā drākṣākṣetrād bahiḥ prākṣipan|
9 What then shall the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the husbandmen, and give the vineyard to others.
anenāsau drākṣākṣetrapatiḥ kiṁ kariṣyati? sa etya tān kṛṣīvalān saṁhatya tatkṣetram anyeṣu kṛṣīvaleṣu samarpayiṣyati|
10 Have you not read the Scripture; The stone which the builders rejected, the same has come to be the head of the corner:
aparañca, "sthapatayaḥ kariṣyanti grāvāṇaṁ yantu tucchakaṁ| prādhānaprastaraḥ koṇe sa eva saṁbhaviṣyati|
11 this was with the Lord, and is wonderful in our eyes?
etat karmma pareśasyāṁdbhutaṁ no dṛṣṭito bhavet||" imāṁ śāstrīyāṁ lipiṁ yūyaṁ kiṁ nāpāṭhiṣṭa?
12 And they were seeking to arrest Him; and they feared the multitude; for they knew that He spoke the parable against them. And leaving Him they went away.
tadānīṁ sa tānuddiśya tāṁ dṛṣṭāntakathāṁ kathitavān, ta itthaṁ budvvā taṁ dharttāmudyatāḥ, kintu lokebhyo bibhyuḥ, tadanantaraṁ te taṁ vihāya vavrajuḥ|
13 And they send to Him certain ones of the Pharisees and Herodians, that they may catch Him with speech.
aparañca te tasya vākyadoṣaṁ dharttāṁ katipayān phirūśino herodīyāṁśca lokān tadantikaṁ preṣayāmāsuḥ|
14 And they having come, say to Him, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and there is not a care to thee for any one: for thou dost not look into the face of men, but thou dost teach the way of God in truth: is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? must we give, or must we not give?
ta āgatya tamavadan, he guro bhavān tathyabhāṣī kasyāpyanurodhaṁ na manyate, pakṣapātañca na karoti, yathārthata īśvarīyaṁ mārgaṁ darśayati vayametat prajānīmaḥ, kaisarāya karo deyo na vāṁ? vayaṁ dāsyāmo na vā?
15 And knowing their hypocrisy, He said to them, Why tempt ye me? Bring to me the denarion, that I may see it.
kintu sa teṣāṁ kapaṭaṁ jñātvā jagāda, kuto māṁ parīkṣadhve? ekaṁ mudrāpādaṁ samānīya māṁ darśayata|
16 And they brought it. And He says to them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they say to Him, Caesar's.
tadā tairekasmin mudrāpāde samānīte sa tān papraccha, atra likhitaṁ nāma mūrtti rvā kasya? te pratyūcuḥ, kaisarasya|
17 And Jesus responding said to them, Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things which are God's. And they were astonished at Him.
tadā yīśuravadat tarhi kaisarasya dravyāṇi kaisarāya datta, īśvarasya dravyāṇi tu īśvarāya datta; tataste vismayaṁ menire|
18 And the Sadducees come to Him, who say there is no resurrection; and asked Him, saying;
atha mṛtānāmutthānaṁ ye na manyante te sidūkino yīśoḥ samīpamāgatya taṁ papracchuḥ;
19 Teacher, Moses wrote to us, That if the brother of any man may die, and leave a wife and have no children, that his brother must take his wife and raise up seed to his brother.
he guro kaścijjano yadi niḥsantatiḥ san bhāryyāyāṁ satyāṁ mriyate tarhi tasya bhrātā tasya bhāryyāṁ gṛhītvā bhrātu rvaṁśotpattiṁ kariṣyati, vyavasthāmimāṁ mūsā asmān prati vyalikhat|
20 There were seven brothers, and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.
kintu kecit sapta bhrātara āsan, tatasteṣāṁ jyeṣṭhabhrātā vivahya niḥsantatiḥ san amriyata|
21 And the second received her and died, and he left no seed; and the third likewise.

22 And the seven received her and left no seed. Last of all the woman also died.
itthaṁ saptaiva bhrātarastāṁ striyaṁ gṛhītvā niḥsantānāḥ santo'mriyanta, sarvvaśeṣe sāpi strī mriyate sma|
23 Then in the resurrection, when they may rise, of which one of them shall she be the wife? for the seven had her a wife.
atha mṛtānāmutthānakāle yadā ta utthāsyanti tadā teṣāṁ kasya bhāryyā sā bhaviṣyati? yataste saptaiva tāṁ vyavahan|
24 And Jesus responding, said to them; Therefore do you not err, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God?
tato yīśuḥ pratyuvāca śāstram īśvaraśaktiñca yūyamajñātvā kimabhrāmyata na?
25 For when they may rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage; but they are as angels in the heavens.
mṛtalokānāmutthānaṁ sati te na vivahanti vāgdattā api na bhavanti, kintu svargīyadūtānāṁ sadṛśā bhavanti|
26 But concerning the dead, that they are raised, have you not read in the book of Moses at the Bush, how God spoke to him saying; I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
punaśca "aham ibrāhīma īśvara ishāka īśvaro yākūbaśceśvaraḥ" yāmimāṁ kathāṁ stambamadhye tiṣṭhan īśvaro mūsāmavādīt mṛtānāmutthānārthe sā kathā mūsālikhite pustake kiṁ yuṣmābhi rnāpāṭhi?
27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You do err much.
īśvaro jīvatāṁ prabhuḥ kintu mṛtānāṁ prabhu rna bhavati, tasmāddheto ryūyaṁ mahābhrameṇa tiṣṭhatha|
28 And a certain one of the scribes, hearing them propounding questions, knowing that He answered them beautifully, asked Him, What is the first commandment of all?
etarhi ekodhyāpaka etya teṣāmitthaṁ vicāraṁ śuśrāva; yīśusteṣāṁ vākyasya saduttaraṁ dattavān iti budvvā taṁ pṛṣṭavān sarvvāsām ājñānāṁ kā śreṣṭhā? tato yīśuḥ pratyuvāca,
29 And Jesus responded to him, The first commandment of all; Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God, is one Lord:
"he isrāyellokā avadhatta, asmākaṁ prabhuḥ parameśvara eka eva,
30 and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. This is the first commandment.
yūyaṁ sarvvantaḥkaraṇaiḥ sarvvaprāṇaiḥ sarvvacittaiḥ sarvvaśaktibhiśca tasmin prabhau parameśvare prīyadhvaṁ," ityājñā śreṣṭhā|
31 And the second is like unto it; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is no other commandment greater than these.
tathā "svaprativāsini svavat prema kurudhvaṁ," eṣā yā dvitīyājñā sā tādṛśī; etābhyāṁ dvābhyām ājñābhyām anyā kāpyājñā śreṣṭhā nāsti|
32 And the scribes said to Him, Truly, Teacher; thou hast spoken in truth that He is One; and there is no other besides Him.
tadā sodhyāpakastamavadat, he guro satyaṁ bhavān yathārthaṁ proktavān yata ekasmād īśvarād anyo dvitīya īśvaro nāsti;
33 And love Him with all the heart, and with all the mind, and with all the strength, and to love thy neighbor as thyself is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
aparaṁ sarvvāntaḥkaraṇaiḥ sarvvaprāṇaiḥ sarvvacittaiḥ sarvvaśaktibhiśca īśvare premakaraṇaṁ tathā svamīpavāsini svavat premakaraṇañca sarvvebhyo homabalidānādibhyaḥ śraṣṭhaṁ bhavati|
34 And Jesus seeing that he answered intelligently, said to him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no one dared to ask Him any more,
tato yīśuḥ subuddheriva tasyedam uttaraṁ śrutvā taṁ bhāṣitavān tvamīśvarasya rājyānna dūrosi|itaḥ paraṁ tena saha kasyāpi vākyasya vicāraṁ karttāṁ kasyāpi pragalbhatā na jātā|
35 And Jesus responding spoke, teaching in the temple, How do the scribes say that Christ is the son of David?
anantaraṁ madhyemandiram upadiśan yīśurimaṁ praśnaṁ cakāra, adhyāpakā abhiṣiktaṁ (tārakaṁ) kuto dāyūdaḥ santānaṁ vadanti?
36 For David himself said in the Holy Spirit, the Lord said unto my Lord; Sit thou on my right hand, until I may make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet!
svayaṁ dāyūd pavitrasyātmana āveśenedaṁ kathayāmāsa| yathā| "mama prabhumidaṁ vākyavadat parameśvaraḥ| tava śatrūnahaṁ yāvat pādapīṭhaṁ karomi na| tāvat kālaṁ madīye tvaṁ dakṣapārśv upāviśa|"
37 Then David himself calls Him Lord; and whence is He his son? And the great multitude were hearing Him delightfully.
yadi dāyūd taṁ prabhūṁ vadati tarhi kathaṁ sa tasya santāno bhavitumarhati? itare lokāstatkathāṁ śrutvānananduḥ|
38 And He said to them in His teaching, Beware of the scribes, wishing to walk about in robes, and salutations in the forums,
tadānīṁ sa tānupadiśya kathitavān ye narā dīrghaparidheyāni haṭṭe vipanau ca

40 They are those devouring the houses of widows, and making long prayers through pretext; they shall receive the greater judgment.

41 And He sitting in front of the treasury, was seeing how the multitudes are casting their money into the treasury. And many rich people were casting in much.

42 And one poor widow was casting in two mites, which is a farthing.
paścād ekā daridrā vidhavā samāgatya dvipaṇamūlyāṁ mudraikāṁ tatra nirakṣipat|
43 And calling His disciples to Him, He says to them, Truly I say unto you, That this poor widow has cast in more than all those casting into the treasury.

44 For all they of that which abounds unto them cast in; but she of her scarcity cast in all things so many as she had, all her living.
