Luke 7
1 When He completed all His words in the ears of the people, He came into Capernaum.
cum autem implesset omnia verba sua in aures plebis intravit Capharnaum
2 And the servant of a certain centurion, being sick, was about to die, who was precious to him.
centurionis autem cuiusdam servus male habens erat moriturus qui illi erat pretiosus
3 And hearing about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, asking Him that having come He may save his servant.
et cum audisset de Iesu misit ad eum seniores Iudaeorum rogans eum ut veniret et salvaret servum eius
4 And they, having come to Jesus, continued to entreat Him earnestly, saying, That he to whom He will do this is worthy:
at illi cum venissent ad Iesum rogabant eum sollicite dicentes ei quia dignus est ut hoc illi praestes
5 for he loves our race, and himself built for us a synagogue.
diligit enim gentem nostram et synagogam ipse aedificavit nobis
6 And Jesus went along with them. And already He being not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, Lord, be not troubled: for I am not worthy that you may come in under my roof:
Iesus autem ibat cum illis et cum iam non longe esset a domo misit ad eum centurio amicos dicens Domine noli vexari non enim dignus sum ut sub tectum meum intres
7 Therefore I did not count myself worthy to come to thee; but speak the word, and my servant shall be healed.
propter quod et me ipsum non sum dignum arbitratus ut venirem ad te sed dic verbo et sanabitur puer meus
8 For I am also a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
nam et ego homo sum sub potestate constitutus habens sub me milites et dico huic vade et vadit et alio veni et venit et servo meo fac hoc et facit
9 And Jesus, having heard these words, was astonished at him, and turning to the multitude following said, I say unto you, I did not find so great faith in Israel.
quo audito Iesus miratus est et conversus sequentibus se turbis dixit amen dico vobis nec in Israhel tantam fidem inveni
10 And those having been sent, returning to the house, found the servant well.
et reversi qui missi fuerant domum invenerunt servum qui languerat sanum
11 And it came to pass consecutively, He departed into a city called Nain; and His many disciples and a great multitude went along with Him.
et factum est deinceps ibat in civitatem quae vocatur Naim et ibant cum illo discipuli eius et turba copiosa
12 And when He drew nigh unto the gate of the city, behold, a dead man, an only born son to his mother, and she a widow, was indeed being carried out: and a great multitude of the city was along with her.
cum autem adpropinquaret portae civitatis et ecce defunctus efferebatur filius unicus matri suae et haec vidua erat et turba civitatis multa cum illa
13 And the Lord seeing her, was moved with compassion towards her, and said to her, Weep not.
quam cum vidisset Dominus misericordia motus super ea dixit illi noli flere
14 And having come forward He touched the bier: and the pall-bearers stood still: and He said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
et accessit et tetigit loculum hii autem qui portabant steterunt et ait adulescens tibi dico surge
15 And the dead man sat up, and began to talk, and Ile gave him to his mother.
et resedit qui erat mortuus et coepit loqui et dedit illum matri suae
16 And fear seized them all: and they continued to glorify God, saying that, A great prophet has arisen among us: and, God has looked upon His people.
accepit autem omnes timor et magnificabant Deum dicentes quia propheta magnus surrexit in nobis et quia Deus visitavit plebem suam
17 And that word about Him went out in all Judea, and all the country round about.
et exiit hic sermo in universam Iudaeam de eo et omnem circa regionem
18 And His disciples proclaimed to John concerning all these things.
et nuntiaverunt Iohanni discipuli eius de omnibus his
19 And John calling certain two of his disciples sent them to the Lord, saying, Art thou the one coming, or must we expect another?
et convocavit duos de discipulis suis Iohannes et misit ad Dominum dicens tu es qui venturus es an alium expectamus
20 And the men having come to Him, said; John the Baptist sent us to thee, saving; Art thou the one coming, or must we expect another?
cum autem venissent ad eum viri dixerunt Iohannes Baptista misit nos ad te dicens tu es qui venturus es an alium expectamus
21 And at that hour He healed many of their diseases and ailments and evil spirits; and He conferred on many blind people the power to see.
in ipsa autem hora curavit multos a languoribus et plagis et spiritibus malis et caecis multis donavit visum
22 And Jesus responding said to them, Having gone, proclaim to John those things which you saw and heard; that the blind are seeing, the lame are walking about, the lepers are being cleansed, the deaf are hearing, the dead are being raised up, the poor are having the gospel preached unto them;
et respondens dixit illis euntes nuntiate Iohanni quae vidistis et audistis quia caeci vident claudi ambulant leprosi mundantur surdi audiunt mortui resurgunt pauperes evangelizantur
23 and happy is he whosoever may not be offended in me.
et beatus est quicumque non fuerit scandalizatus in me
24 And the messengers of John having gone away, He began to speak to the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? a reed shaken by the wind?
et cum discessissent nuntii Iohannis coepit dicere de Iohanne ad turbas quid existis in desertum videre harundinem vento moveri
25 But what went you out into the wilderness to see? a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold those who are in gaudy apparel and luxury, are in royal palaces.
sed quid existis videre hominem mollibus vestimentis indutum ecce qui in veste pretiosa sunt et deliciis in domibus regum sunt
26 But what went you out to see? a prophet? Yea, and I say unto you even more than a prophet.
sed quid existis videre prophetam utique dico vobis et plus quam prophetam
27 This is he concerning whom it has been written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who will prepare thy way before thee.
hic est de quo scriptum est ecce mitto angelum meum ante faciem tuam qui praeparabit viam tuam ante te
28 I say unto you, among those having been born of women no prophet is greater than John the Baptist; nevertheless the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
dico enim vobis maior inter natos mulierum propheta Iohanne Baptista nemo est qui autem minor est in regno Dei maior est illo
29 And all the people hearing and the publicans justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
et omnis populus audiens et publicani iustificaverunt Deum baptizati baptismo Iohannis
30 But the Pharisees and theologians rejected the counsel of God, against themselves, not having been baptized by him.
Pharisaei autem et legis periti consilium Dei spreverunt in semet ipsos non baptizati ab eo
31 Then to whom shall I liken the men of this generation, and to whom are they like?
cui ergo similes dicam homines generationis huius et cui similes sunt
32 They are like unto little children sitting in the market-place, and calling to one another, and saying, We piped unto you, and you did not dance; we mourned unto you, and you did not weep.
similes sunt pueris sedentibus in foro et loquentibus ad invicem et dicentibus cantavimus vobis tibiis et non saltastis lamentavimus et non plorastis
33 For John the Baptist has come neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and you say, He has a demon.
venit enim Iohannes Baptista neque manducans panem neque bibens vinum et dicitis daemonium habet
34 The Son of man has come eating and drinking, and you say, Behold, a gluttonous wine-drinking man, a friend of publicans and sinners.
venit Filius hominis manducans et bibens et dicitis ecce homo devorator et bibens vinum amicus publicanorum et peccatorum
35 Truly wisdom is justified by her children.
et iustificata est sapientia ab omnibus filiis suis
36 And a certain one of the Pharisees, asked Him, that He would eat with him, and having come into the house of the Pharisee, He sat down to the table.
rogabat autem illum quidam de Pharisaeis ut manducaret cum illo et ingressus domum Pharisaei discubuit
37 Behold, a woman who was a sinner, in the city, also having learned that He is dining in the house of the Pharisee, breaking an alabaster box of myrrh,
et ecce mulier quae erat in civitate peccatrix ut cognovit quod accubuit in domo Pharisaei adtulit alabastrum unguenti
38 and standing behind by His feet, weeping, began to moisten His feel with tears, and she wiped them with the hairs of her head, and she continued to copiously kiss His feet, and to anoint them with the myrrh.
et stans retro secus pedes eius lacrimis coepit rigare pedes eius et capillis capitis sui tergebat et osculabatur pedes eius et unguento unguebat
39 And the Pharisee, having invited Him, seeing, spoke within himself, saying, If He were a prophet, He would know who and what kind the woman is, who touches Him, because she is a sinner.
videns autem Pharisaeus qui vocaverat eum ait intra se dicens hic si esset propheta sciret utique quae et qualis mulier quae tangit eum quia peccatrix est
40 And Jesus responding said to him, Simon, I have something to say to thee. And he says, Speak, Teacher.
et respondens Iesus dixit ad illum Simon habeo tibi aliquid dicere at ille ait magister dic
41 There were two debtors to a certain creditor: the one owed him five hundred denaria, and the other fifty.
duo debitores erant cuidam feneratori unus debebat denarios quingentos alius quinquaginta
42 And they not being able to pay, he forgave them both. Then which one of them will love him the more?
non habentibus illis unde redderent donavit utrisque quis ergo eum plus diliget
43 Simon responding said, I perceive, that he, to whom he forgave the more. And He said to him, You answered correctly.
respondens Simon dixit aestimo quia is cui plus donavit at ille dixit ei recte iudicasti
44 And turning to the woman He said to Simon, Do you see this woman? I came into thy house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with her hairs.
et conversus ad mulierem dixit Simoni vides hanc mulierem intravi in domum tuam aquam pedibus meis non dedisti haec autem lacrimis rigavit pedes meos et capillis suis tersit
45 Thou gavest me no kiss: she, from the time I came in, did not cease copiously kissing my feet.
osculum mihi non dedisti haec autem ex quo intravit non cessavit osculari pedes meos
46 Thou didst not anoint my head with oil: but she anointed my feet with myrrh.
oleo caput meum non unxisti haec autem unguento unxit pedes meos
47 Therefore I say unto thee, her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but he to whom little is forgiven, loveth little.
propter quod dico tibi remittentur ei peccata multa quoniam dilexit multum cui autem minus dimittitur minus diligit
48 And He said to her; Thy sins are forgiven.
dixit autem ad illam remittuntur tibi peccata
49 And those sitting along with Him began to say among themselves, Who is this who even forgives sins?
et coeperunt qui simul accumbebant dicere intra se quis est hic qui etiam peccata dimittit
50 And He said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved them; go in peace.
dixit autem ad mulierem fides tua te salvam fecit vade in pace
