< Luke 17 >
1 And He spoke to His disciples, It is impossible for offenses not to come: but woe unto him, through whom they come;
Then He said to the disciples: “Things that cause people to fall are bound to come, but woe to him through whom they do come!
2 it is good for him if a millstone is hung around his neck, and he is cast into the sea, rather than that he may offend one of these little ones.
It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should cause one of these little ones to fall.
3 Take heed to yourselves. If thy brother may sin, rebuke him; if he may repent, forgive him.
Watch out for yourselves: if your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.
4 But if he may sin against thee seven times a day, and seven times turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.
Even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in that day returns, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”
5 And the apostles said to the Lord, Increase our faith.
The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.”
6 And the Lord said, If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed. you should say to this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up, and planted in the sea; and it would obey you.
So the Lord said: “If you had faith like a mustard seed has, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted, and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.
7 But which one of you, having a servant plowing or serving a shepherd, who will say to him, having come in from the field, Coming hither sit down immediately?
“And which of you, having a slave plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he comes in from the field, ‘Come at once and recline to eat’?
8 But will he not say to him, Prepare what I may sup, and girding thyself, minister unto me, until I may eat and drink; and after these things you eat and drink?
Will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for me to eat, and gird yourself and serve me until I eat and drink, and afterward you will eat and drink’?
9 Whether does he thank the servant because he did the things which were commanded?
Does he thank that slave because he did the things commanded? I guess not!
10 Likewise also, when you may do those things which are commanded you, say that, We are unprofitable servants; we have done that which we ought to do.
So likewise you, whenever you have done everything you were told to do, say, ‘We are unworthy slaves, because we have only done what we were supposed to.’”
11 And it came to pass, while He was journeying to Jerusalem, and He was going through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.
Now as He was traveling toward Jerusalem, He went along between Samaria and Galilee.
12 He coming into a certain village, ten lepers met Him, who stood afar off;
And as He entered a certain village, ten men met Him—being lepers they stood at a distance.
13 and lifting up their voice, saying, Thou, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
They called out, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”
14 And seeing, He said to them, Go and show yourselves to the priest. And it came to pass while they were going, they were cleansed:
And paying attention He said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” It happened that as they went they were cleansed!
15 and one of them, seeing that he was healed, returned, with a loud voice glorifying God,
Well one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, glorifying God with a loud voice;
16 and he fell upon his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him: and he was a Samaritan.
then he fell on his face at His feet, thanking Him—and he was a Samaritan!
17 And Jesus responding said, Were not the ten cleansed?
So Jesus reacted by saying: “Were not all ten cleansed? So where are the nine?
18 Where are the nine? And they were not found returning to give thanks to God, except this one foreigner.
None were found to return and give glory to God except this foreigner!”
19 And He said to him, having arisen, go: thy faith hath saved thee.
Then He said to him, “Get up and go; your faith has made you well.”
20 Then being interrogated by the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God is coming, He responded to them and said, The kingdom of God comes not with observation:
Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the Kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said: “The Kingdom of God does not come with observation;
21 neither will they say; Lo, here! or, there! for behold, the kingdom of God is among you.
nor will they say, ‘Look, here!’ or ‘Look, there!’ because indeed the Kingdom of God is within you.”
22 And He said to the disciples, The days will come, when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and will not see it.
Then He said to the disciples: “Days are coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of the Man, and you will not see it.
23 And they will say to you, Lo, here! lo, there! go not away, nor follow them.
And they will say to you, ‘Look, here!’ or ‘Look, there!’ Do not go along or follow.
24 For as the lightning, flashing out of the one part under the heaven, gleams into the other part under heaven, so shall be the Son of man in His day.
Because just like the lightning that lights the whole sky when it flashes, so also will the Son of the Man be in His day.
25 But it behooves Him first to suffer many things and to be set at nought by this generation.
But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.
26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of man.
Also, just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it also be in the days of the Son of the Man.
27 They were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were getting married, until the day on which Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
They were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building;
Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building—
29 and on the day on which Lot went out from Sodom, fire and brimstone rained from heaven and destroyed them all.
but on the day Lot went out from Sodom, fire and brimstone rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.
30 According to these things it will be in the day the Son of man is revealed.
Even so will it be in the day when the Son of the Man is revealed.
31 In that day, let not him who is on the house, and his goods in the house, come down to take them: and likewise let not him who is in the field turn back.
“In that day, he who is on the housetop, and his goods in the house, let him not go down to get them; and likewise he who is in the field, let him not turn back.
33 Whosoever may seek to save his soul shall lose it: and whosoever shall lose it shall find it.
Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever ‘wastes’ it will preserve it.
34 I say unto you, on that night two men shall be on one bed; the one shall be taken and the other left.
I tell you: on that night there will be two men in one bed; one will be taken and the other left.
35 Two women shall be grinding at the same mill; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
Two women will be grinding together; one will be taken and the other left.”
37 Responding they say to Him, Where, Lord? And He said to them, Where the body is, there the eagles will also be gathered together.
They reacted by saying to Him, “Where, Lord?” He said to them, “Where there is a carcass, there will the vultures also be gathered.”
