Luke 1
1 Inasmuch as many took it in hand to present a history concerning these things which have been fulfilled among us,
Että moni on ruvennut järjestänsä kirjoittamaan niistä asioista, joista meillä täydellinen tieto on,
2 as those being eyewitnesses and ministers of the Word have delivered unto us;
Niinkuin ne meille sanoneet ovat, jotka sen alusta itse nähneet ja sananpalveliat olleet ovat:
3 it seemed good to me also, having followed carefully all things from the beginning, to write unto thee consecutively, O most noble Theophilus,
Näkyy myös minulle se hyväksi, sitte kuin minä alusta kaikki visusti tutkinut olen, että minä niitä järjestänsä sinulle kirjoittaisin, hyvä Teophilus:
4 in order that thou mayest know the certainty of the words concerning which thou hast been instructed.
Ettäs ymmärtäisit selkiästi niiden asiain vahvan totuuden, joista sinä opetettu olet.
5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest, by name Zacharias, of the course of Ahijah, and his wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name Elizabeth.
Herodeksen, Juudean kuninkaan, aikana oli pappi, Sakarias nimeltä, Abian vuorosta; ja hänen emäntänsä Aaronin tyttäristä, ja hänen nimensä Elisabet.
6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord, blameless.
Ja he olivat molemmat hurskaita Jumalan edessä, vaeltavaiset kaikissa Herran käskyissä ja säädyissä laittamattomasti,
7 And there was no child to them, as Elizabeth was barren, and both were advanced in their days.
Ja heillä ei ollut lasta; sillä Elisabet oli hedelmätöin, ja he olivat jo molemmat ijälliset.
8 And it came to pass, while he was officiating in the order of his course before God,
Ja tapahtui, kuin hän vuorollansa papin virkaa toimitti Jumalan edessä,
9 (according to the custom of the priesthood he was chosen by lot to offer incense), having gone into the temple of the Lord;

10 and all the multitude of the people were praying without at the hour of incense;

11 the angel of the Lord appeared unto him standing on the right hand of the altar of incense:
Mutta hänelle ilmestyi Herran enkeli, seisoin suitsutusalttarin oikealla puolella.
12 and Zacharias was troubled seeing him, and fear fell on him.
Ja kuin Sakarias hänen näki, hämmästyi hän ja pelko lankesi hänen päällenssä.
13 And the angel said to him; Fear not, Zacharias; because thy prayer has been heard, and thy wife Elizabeth shall bring forth a son to thee, and thou shalt call his name John.
Mutta enkeli sanoi hänelle: älä pelkää, Sakarias! sillä sinun rukoukses on kuultu ja sinun emäntäs Elisabet synnyttää sinulle pojan, ja sinun pitää kutsuman hänen nimensä Johannes.
14 And there shall be joy and rejoicing, and many shall rejoice at his birth.
Ja sinulle tulee ilo ja ihastus, ja monta iloitsevat hänen syntymisestänsä.
15 For he shall be great before the Lord; and he shall not drink wine and strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost even from the womb of his mother.
Sillä hän tulee suureksi Herran edessä, ja viinaa ja väkevää juomaa ei hän juo, ja hän täytetään Pyhällä Hengellä jo äitinsä kohdusta.
16 And he will turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord, their God.
ja hän kääntää monta Israelin lapsista Herran, heidän Jumalansa tykö.
17 And he will go before Him in the spirit and Power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient unto the understanding of the righteous, to prepare a people made ready for the Lord.
Ja hän käy edellä hänen edessänsä Eliaan Hengellä ja voimalla, kääntäin isäin sydämet lasten tykö ja tottelemattomat hurskasten toimen tykö, toimittaakseen Herralle valmistetun kansan.
18 And Zacharias said to the angel: According to what shall I know this? for I am old and my wife advanced in her days.
Ja Sakarias sanoi enkelille: mistä minä sen ymmärrän? sillä minä olen vanha ja emäntäni on jo ijällinen.
19 And the angel responding said to him; I am Gabriel standing in the presence of God, and am sent to speak to you and to preach to you these things.
Niin enkeli vastasi ja sanoi hänelle: minä olen Gabriel, joka seison Jumalan edessä, ja olen lähetetty puhumaan sinulle ja saattamaan näitä iloisia sanomia sinulle.
20 And behold thou shalt be dumb and unable to speak, unto the day upon which these things may take place; because thou didst not believe my words, which shall be fulfilled in their time.
Ja katso, sinä tulet kielettömäksi ja et saa puhua hamaan siihen päivään asti, jona nämä tapahtuvat, ettet uskonut sanojani, jotka ajallansa täytetään.
21 And the people were waiting for Zacharias, and were wondering because he tarries in the temple.
Mutta kansa odotti Sakariasta, ja ihmettelivät, että hän niin templissä viipyi.
22 And having come out he was unable to speak to them; and they recognized that he had seen a vision in the temple; and he was beckoning to them and remained dumb.
Vaan kuin hän tuli ulos, niin ei hän saanut puhua heille. Ja he ymmärsivät, että hän oli näyn templissä nähnyt. Ja hän viittasi heille, ja jäi mykäksi.
23 And it came to pass when the days of his ministry were fulfilled, he went away to his own house.
Ja tapahtui, että hänen virkansa päivät olivat täytetyt, niin hän meni kotiansa.
24 And after these days Elizabeth, his wife, conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
Mutta niiden päiväin jälkeen tuli hänen emäntänsä Elisabet raskaaksi ja salasi itsensä viisi kuukautta, sanoen:
25 That the Lord so hath done unto me, in the days in which He condescended to take away my reproach among men.
Ja näin on Herra minulle tehnyt niinä päivinä, kuin hän minun puoleeni katsoi, että hän ottais pois minun ylönkatseeni ihmisten seassa.
26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, to which was the name
Mutta kuudentena kuukautena lähetettiin enkeli Gabriel Jumalalta Galilean kaupunkiin, jonka nimi oli Nasaret,
27 Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man, to whom was the name Joseph of the house of David; and the name of the virgin was Mary.
Neitseen tykö, joka oli kihlattu miehelle, jonka nimi oli Joseph, Davidin huoneesta; ja neitseen nimi oli Maria.
28 And the angel having come to her said; Hail, thou blessed one; the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women.
Ja enkeli tuli sisälle hänen tykönsä ja sanoi: terve, armoitettu! Herra on sinun kanssas: siunattu sinä vaimoin seassa!
29 And she seeing was troubled over his word, and was reasoning what kind this salutation might be.
Mutta kuin hän näki hänen, hämmästyi hän hänen puheestansa ja ajatteli, millinen se tervehdys oli.
30 And the angel said to her; Fear not, Mary; for thou didst find favor with God.
Ja enkeli sanoi hänelle: älä pelkää, Maria! sillä sinä löysit armon Jumalan tykönä.
31 And behold, thou shalt conceive and hear a son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus.
Ja katso, sinä siität kohdussas ja synnytät Pojan, ja sinun pitää kutsua hänen nimensä Jesus.
32 He shall be great and shall be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David:
Sen pitää oleman suuren ja pitää kutsuttaman Ylimmäisen Pojaksi. Ja Herra Jumala antaa hänelle Davidin hänen isänsä istuimen,
33 and He shall reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His Kingdom there shall be no end. (aiōn g165)
Ja hänen pitää Jakobin huoneen kuningas ijankaikkisesti oleman ja hänen valtakunnallansa ei pidä loppua oleman. (aiōn g165)
34 And Mary said to the angel; How shall this be, since I know not man?
Niin sanoi Maria enkelille: kuinka tämä tulee, sillä en minä miehestä mitään tiedä?
35 And the angel responding said to her; The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee; therefore, indeed, that holy thing that is begotten shall be called the Son of God.
Ja enkeli vastasi ja sanoi hänelle: Pyhä Henki tulee sinun päälles ja Ylimmäisen voima varjoo sinun: sentähden myös se pyhä, joka sinusta syntyy, pitää kutsuttaman Jumalan Pojaksi.
36 And behold Elizabeth thy kinswoman, indeed, herself having conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month, to her who is called barren.
Ja katso, Elisabet sinun lankos siitti myös pojan vanhalla ijällänsä, ja tämä on kuudes kuukausi hänelle, joka kutsuttiin hedelmättömäksi.
37 Because no word shall be impossible with God.
Sillä ei Jumalan edessä ole yhtään asiaa mahdotointa.
38 And Mary said; Behold the handmaiden of the Lord; may it be done unto me according to thy word. And the angel went away from her.
Niin sanoi Maria: katso, Herran piika! tapahtukoon minulle sinun sanas jälkeen! Ja enkeli läksi hänen tyköänsä.
39 And Mary, rising, departed into the mountainous land, with haste, into a city of Judah.
Mutta Maria nousi niinä päivinä ja meni kiiruusti ylös mäkikyliin Juudan kaupunkiin.
40 And she came into the house of Zacharias and saluted Elizabeth.
Ja tuli Sakariaan huoneeseen ja tervehti Elisabetia.
41 And it came to pass when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the infant in her womb leaped; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit; and she spoke with a loud voice and said;
Ja tapahtui, kuin Elisabet kuuli Marian tervehdyksen, hyppäsi lapsi hänen kohdussansa. Ja Elisabet täytettiin Pyhällä Hengellä,
42 Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
Ja hän huusi suurella äänellä ja sanoi: siunattu olet sinä vaimoin seassa, ja siunattu on sinun kohtus hedelmä!
43 And whence is this to me that the mother of my Lord may come unto me?
Ja kusta se minulle tulee, että minun Herrani äiti tulee minun tyköni?
44 For behold when the voice of your salutation came into my ears, the infant in my womb leaped with joy.
Sillä katso, kuin sinun tervehdykses ääni tuli minun korviini, hyppäsi lapsi ilosta minun kohdussani.
45 And blessed is she that believeth, because there shall be a perfection to those things having been spoken to her by the Lord.
Ja autuas sinä, joka uskoit; sillä ne täytetään, mitkä sinulle ovat sanotut Herralta.
46 And Mary said; My soul doth magnify the Lord,
Ja Maria sanoi: Minun sieluni suuresti ylistää Herraa,
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
Ja minun henkeni iloitsee Jumalassa, minun vapahtajassani,
48 because He looked upon the low state of his handmaiden.
Että hän katsoi piikansa nöyryyttä; sillä katso, tästedes pitää kaikkein sukukuntain minua autuaaksi kutsuttaman:
49 For behold from now all generations call me blessed; because the Mighty One did great things unto me, and His name is holy;
Sillä Voimallinen on suuria ihmeitä tehnyt minun kohtaani, ja hänen nimensä on pyhä,
50 and His mercy unto generation of generations to them that fear Him.
Ja hänen laupiutensa pysyy suvusta sukuun niille, jotka häntä pelkäävät.
51 He wrought power by his own arm; he dispersed the proud in the thought of their heart.
Hän osoitti voiman käsivarrellansa ja hajotti koriat heidän sydämensä mielestä.
52 He cast down the mighty from thrones and exalted the humble.
Voimalliset on hän kukistanut istuimelta ja korotti nöyrät.
53 He filled the poor with good things, and sent away the rich empty.
Isoovat täytti hän hyvyydellä ja jätti rikkaat tyhjäksi.
54 He delivered his son Israel, to remember mercy,
Hän korjasi palvelijansa Israelin, muistain omaa laupiuttansa,
(Niinkuin hän on puhunut meidän isillemme, Abrahamille ja hänen siemenellensä) ijankaikkisesti. (aiōn g165)
56 And Mary remained with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
Ja Maria oli hänen tykönänsä lähes kolme kuukautta ja palasi kotiansa.
57 And the time of her parturition was fulfilled unto Elizabeth and she brought forth a son.
Mutta Elisabetin synnyttämisen aika täytettiin, ja hän synnytti pojan.
58 And the neighbors and her relatives heard, that the Lord was magnifying His mercy with her, and they continued to rejoice with her.
Ja hänen kylällisensä ja lankonsa kuulivat, että Herra oli tehnyt suuren laupiuden hänen kanssansa, ja he iloitsivat hänen kanssansa.
59 And it came to pass on the eighth day, they came to circumcise the little child; and they were calling him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
Ja tapahtui kahdeksantena päivänä, että he tulivat lasta ympärileikkaamaan, ja kutsuivat hänen isänsä nimeltä Sakarias.
60 And his mother responding said; No, but he shall be called John.
Niin vastasi hänen äitinsä ja sanoi: ei suinkaan; vaan hän pitää kutsuttaman Johannes.
61 And they said to her; That there is no one among thy kindred who is called by this name.
Ja he sanoivat hänelle: ei ole ketään sinun sukukunnassas, joka kutsutaan sillä nimellä.
62 And they were beckoning to his father, what he might wish to call him.
Niin he viittasivat hänen isällensä, miksi hän tahtoi hänen nimittää.
63 And having asked for a writing tablet, he wrote saying; His name is John.
Ja hän anoi taulua ja kirjoitti: Johannes on hänen nimensä. Ja kaikki ihmettelivät.
64 And all marveled. And his mouth immediately opened and his tongue loosed, and he continued to speak, praising God.
Niin kohta aukeni hänen suunsa ja hänen kielensä, ja puhui kiittäin Jumalaa.
65 And fear came upon all of those dwelling around; and all these words were spoken abroad in all the mountainous regions of Judea.
Ja pelko tuli kaikkein heidän kylällistensä päälle, ja kaikissa Juudean mäkikylissä ilmoitettiin kaikki nämä sanat.
66 And all those hearing placed them in their heart, saying; What then shall this little child be? And the hand of the Lord was with him.
Ja kaikki, jotka tämän kuulivat, panivat sydämiinsä, sanoen: minkäs luulet tästä lapsesta tulevan? Sillä Herran käsi oli hänen kanssaan.
67 And Zacharias his father was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied saying;
Ja Sakarias ja hänen isänsä täytettiin Pyhällä Hengellä ja ennusti, sanoen:
68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, because He looked upon us and wrought redemption to His people, and raised up unto us a horn of salvation
Kiitetty olkoon Herra, Israelin Jumala! sillä hän on etsinyt ja lunastanut kansansa,
69 in the house of David His son.
Ja on meille korottanut autuuden sarven, Davidin palveliansa huoneessa,
Niinkuin hän on muinen puhunut pyhäin prophetainsa suun kautta, (aiōn g165)
71 salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all those who hate us,
Vapahtaaksensa meitä meidän vihollisiltamme ja kaikkein kädestä, jotka meitä vihaavat:
72 to execute mercy with our fathers, and remember His holy covenant,
Osoittaaksensa laupiutta meidän isillemme ja muistaaksensa pyhää liittoansa,
73 the oath which He swore to Abraham our father:
Ja sitä valaa, jonka hän vannoi Abrahamille, meidän isällemme, meille antaaksensa:
74 to grant unto us, having been delivered out of the hand of our enemies, to serve Him without fear,
Että me, vapahdetut vihollistemme kädestä, häntä pelkäämättä palvelesimme,
75 in holiness and righteousness before Him all the days of our life.
Pyhyydessä ja hurskaudessa hänen edessänsä kaikkena meidän elinaikanamme.
76 And thou, little child, shall be called a prophet of the Highest; for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways,
Ja sinä poikainen pitää kutsuttaman Ylimmäisen prophetaksi; sillä sinun pitää käymän Herran kasvoin edessä, valmistamaan hänen teitänsä,
77 to give knowledge of salvation to His people in remission of their sins,
Ja antaman autuuden tunnon hänen kansallensa, heidäin synteinsä anteeksi saamiseksi,
78 through the bowels of mercy of our God, in which the dayspring from on high looked upon us,
Meidän Jumalan sydämellisen laupiuden kautta, jolla meitä on etsinyt koitto ylhäältä,
79 to appear unto those sitting in darkness and in the shadow of death, to direct our feet in the way of peace.
Valaisemaan niille, jotka pimeissä ja kuolon varjoissa istuvat, ja ojentamaan meidän jalkamme rauhan tielle.
80 And the little child continued to grow and waxed strong in spirit; and was in the deserts until the day of his showing unto Israel.
Mutta lapsi kasvoi ja vahvistui hengessä, ja oli korvessa siihen päivään asti, jona hänen piti Israelin kansan eteen tuleman.
