< John 8 >

1
Iesus autem perrexit in montem Oliveti:
2
4
et dixerunt ei: Magister, haec mulier modo deprehensa est in adulterio.
5
In lege autem Moyses mandavit nobis huiusmodi lapidare. Tu ergo quid dicis?
6
8
Et iterum se inclinans, scribebat in terra.
9
12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world: the one following me can not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of the life.
13 Then the Pharisees said to Him, Thou art testifying concerning thyself; Thy testimony is not true. And Jesus responded and said to them,
14 If I testify concerning myself, my testimony is true; for I know whence I came, and whither I go. You know not whence I come, or whither I go.
15 You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.
Vos secundum carnem iudicatis: ego non iudico quemquam:
16 If I judge, my judgment is true; because I am not alone, but I and the One having sent me.
17 And it has been written in our law, that the testimony of two men is true.
18 I am the one testifying concerning myself, and the Father having sent me, testifies concerning me.
Ego sum, qui testimonium perhibeo de me ipso: et testimonium perhibet de me, qui misit me, Pater.
19 Then they said to Him, Where is thy Father? Jesus responded; You know neither me nor my Father; if you knew me, you would also know my Father.
Dicebant ergo ei: Ubi est Pater tuus? Respondit Iesus: Neque me scitis, neque Patrem meum: si me sciretis, forsitan et Patrem meum sciretis.
20 He spoke these words in the treasury, teaching in the temple: and no one arrested Him; because His hour had not yet come.
21 Then He again said to them, I go away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sin: whither I go you are not able to come.
Dixit ergo iterum eis Iesus: Ego vado, et quaeretis me, et in peccato vestro moriemini. Quo ego vado, vos non potestis venire.
22 Then the Jews were saying, Whether will He kill Himself, because He says, Whither I go away, you are not able to come?
Dicebant ergo Iudaei: Numquid interficiet semetipsum, quia dixit: Quo ego vado, vos non potestis venire?
23 And He said to them, You are from beneath; I am from above: you are of this world; I am not of this world.
24 Therefore I said to you, that you shall die in your sins: for if you may not believe that I am He, you shall die in your sins.
25 Then they said to Him, Who art thou? And Jesus said to them, Even that which I also speak to you from the beginning.
26 I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you; but the One having sent me is true; those things which I heard with Him, these I speak to the world.
27 They did not know that He spoke to them concerning the Father.
28 Then Jesus said, When you may lift up the Son of man, then you shall know that I am He, and I do nothing of myself, but as the Father has taught me, I speak the same things.
Dixit ergo eis Iesus: Cum exaltaveritis Filium hominis, tunc cognoscetis quia ego sum, et a meipso facio nihil, sed sicut docuit me Pater, haec loquor:
29 Truly the One having sent me is with me; He has not left me alone; because I always do those things which are pleasing to Him.
et qui me misit, mecum est, et non reliquit me solum: quia ego quae placita sunt ei, facio semper.
30 He speaking these things, many believed on Him.
Haec illo loquente, multi crediderunt in eum.
31 Then Jesus said to the Jews, who believed on Him, If you may abide in my word, you are truly my disciples;
Dicebat ergo Iesus ad eos, qui crediderunt ei, Iudaeos: Si vos manseritis in sermone meo, vere discipuli mei eritis:
32 and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
et cognoscetis veritatem, et veritas liberabit vos.
33 They responded to Him, we are the seed of Abraham, and have never been in bondage to any one: How do You say, that you shall be free?
Responderunt ei: Semen Abrahae sumus, et nemini servivimus umquam: quomodo tu dicis: Liberi eritis?
34 Jesus responded to them, Truly, truly, I say unto you, That every one doing sin is the slave of sin.
Respondit eis Iesus: Amen, amen dico vobis: quia omnis, qui facit peccatum, servus est peccati.
35 But the slave abides not in the house forever; the Son abides forever.
36 If therefore the Son may make you free, you shall be free indeed.
si ergo vos filius liberaverit, vere liberi eritis.
37 I know ye are the seed of Abraham; but you seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you.
Scio quia filii Abrahae estis: sed quaeritis me interficere, quia sermo meus non capit in vobis.
38 Whatsoever I have seen with the Father I speak: you therefore are doing the things which you heard with your father.
39 They responded and said to Him, Abraham is our Father. Jesus says to them, If you were the children of Abraham, you would do the works of Abraham.
Dicit eis Iesus: Si filii Abrahae estis, opera Abrahae facite.
40 But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard with God: Abraham did not this.
Nunc autem quaeritis me interficere, hominem, qui veritatem vobis locutus sum, quam audivi a Deo: hoc Abraham non fecit.
41 You are doing the works of your father. They said to Him, We are not born of fornication; we have one Father, God.
Vos facitis opera patris vestri.
42 Jesus said to them; If God were your Father, you would love me: for I came out from God, and I return; for I have not spoken from myself, but He sent me.
Dixit ergo eis Iesus: Si Deus pater vester esset: diligeretis utique et me. ego enim ex Deo processi, et veni: neque enim a meipso veni, sed ille me misit.
43 Wherefore do you not understand my speech? Because you are not able to hear my word.
Quare loquelam meam non cognoscitis? Quia non potestis audire sermonem meum.
44 You are of your father the devil, and you wish to do the lusts of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and stood not in the truth, because there was no truth in him. When he may speak a lie, he speaks of his own: because he is a liar, and the father of the same.
45 And because I speak the truth, you do not believe me.
46 Which one of you convicts me concerning sin? If I speak the truth, why do you not believe me?
Quis ex vobis arguet me de peccato?
47 The one being of God hears the words of God: on account of this you do not hear, because you are not of God.
48 The Jews responded and said to Him, Do we not truly say that you are a Samaritan, and have a demon?
49 Jesus responded, I have not a demon; but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me.
50 But I do not seek my own glory: there is One seeking and judging.
51 Truly, truly, I say unto you, if any one may keep my word, he may never see death. (aiōn g165)
Amen, amen dico vobis: si quis sermonem meum servaverit, mortem non videbit in aeternum. (aiōn g165)
52 The Jews said to Him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham and the prophets are dead; and thou sayest, If any one may keep my word, he may never taste death. (aiōn g165)
Dixerunt ergo Iudaei: Nunc cognovimus quia daemonium habes.
53 Whether art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died: whom do you make yourself?
54 Jesus responded, If I may glorify myself, my glory is nothing: my Father is the one glorifying me; whom you say, that, He is our God;
55 indeed you do not know Him: but I know Him. If I may say, I know Him not, I will be a liar like you: but I know Him, and I keep His word.
56 Abraham, our father, rejoiced that he might see my day; he saw it, and was glad.
57 Then the Jews said to Him, You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?
58 Jesus said unto them, Truly, truly, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
Dixit eis Iesus: Amen, amen dico vobis, antequam Abraham fieret, ego sum.
59 Then they took up stones that they might cast at Him: and Jesus was hidden, and departed out from the temple.
