John 7
1 After these things Jesus walked about in Galilee: for He was not willing to walk about in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill Him.
Après cela Jésus parcourait la Galilée: car il ne voulait point parcourir la Judée, parce que les Juifs cherchaient à le faire mourir.
2 And the feast of the Jews, tabernacles, was nigh.
Or approchait la fête des Juifs, la Scénopégie.
3 Then His brothers said to Him; Depart hence, and go into Judea; in order that thy disciples shall see thy works which thou art doing. For no one does anything in secret, and Himself seeks to be public.
Ses frères donc lui dirent: Pars d’ici et va en Judée, afin que tes disciples voient, eux aussi, les œuvres que tu fais.
4 If thou doest these things, show thyself to the world.
Car personne n’agit en secret, lorsqu’il cherche lui-même a paraître en public: puisque tu fais de telles choses, manifeste-toi au monde.
5 For His brothers were not believing on Him.
Car ses frères mêmes ne croyaient pas en lui.
6 Jesus says to them, My time is not yet; but your time is always ready.
Mais Jésus leur dit: Mon temps n’est pas encore venu, mais votre temps est toujours prêt.
7 The world is not able to hate you; but it hates me, because I testify against it, that its works are evil.
Le monde ne peut pas vous haïr: pour moi, il me hait, parce que je rends de lui ce témoignage que ses œuvres sont mauvaises.
8 You go up to the feast: I do not go to this feast; because my time is not yet fulfilled.
Allez, vous, à cette fête: pour moi je n’y vais point, parce que mon temps n’est pas encore accompli.
9 Saying these things He remained in Galilee.
Ce qu’ayant dit, il demeura en Galilée.
10 And when His brothers went up to the feast, then Himself also went up, not openly, but in secret.
Mais lorsque ses frères furent partis, il alla aussi lui-même à la fête, non publiquement, mais comme en cachette.
11 Then the Jews were seeking Him at the feast, and saying, Where is He?
Les Juifs donc le cherchaient pendant la fête et disaient: Où est-il?
12 And there was much murmuring in the crowd concerning Him: some indeed were saying, That He is good; others were saying, No, but He deceives the multitude.
Et il y avait une grande rumeur dans le peuple à son sujet. Les uns disaient: En effet, c’est un homme de bien; mais d’autres disaient: Non, car il séduit la foule.
13 No one indeed was speaking openly concerning Him on account of the fear of the Jews.
Cependant personne ne parlait de lui ouvertement par crainte des Juifs.
14 But the feast already being midway, Jesus came up into the temple, and was teaching.
Or, vers le milieu de la fête, Jésus monta au temple, et il enseignait.
15 Then the Jews marveled, saying; How does this one know letters, never having been taught?
Et les Juifs s’étonnaient, disant: Comment celui-ci sait-il les Ecritures, puisqu’il ne les a point apprises?
16 Then Jesus responded to them, and said, My teaching is not mine, but of Him that sent me;
Jésus leur répondit et dit: Ma doctrine n’est pas de moi, mais de celui qui m’a envoyé.
17 if any one may will to do His will, he shall know concerning the teaching, whether it is of God, or I speak for myself.
Si quelqu’un veut faire sa volonté, il connaîtra, touchant ma doctrine, si elle est de lui ou si je parle de moi-même.
18 He that speaketh from himself seeketh his own glory: he that seeketh the glory of Him that sent Him, the same is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.
Celui qui parle de lui-même cherche sa propre gloire; mais qui cherche la gloire de celui qui l’a envoyé, celui-là est vrai, et il n’y a point d’injustice en lui.
19 Did not Moses give you the law? and no one of you does the law. Why do you seek to kill me?
Moïse ne vous a-t-il pas donné la loi? Cependant nul de vous ne pratique la loi.
20 And the multitude responded, Thou hast a demon: who seeks to kill thee?
Pourquoi cherchez-vous à me faire mourir? Le peuple répondit et dit: Tu es possédé du démon: qui cherche à te faire mourir?
21 Jesus responded and said to them, I did one work, and you were all astonished.
Jésus répliqua et leur dit: J’ai fait une seule œuvre, et vous êtes tous étonnés.
22 Moses gave you circumcision, not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers, and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.
Cependant Moïse vous a donné la circoncision (bien qu’elle ne soit pas de Moïse, mais des patriarches): et vous circoncisez le jour du sabbat.
23 If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath, in order that the law of Moses may not be broken; are you mad at me, because I made a man entirely whole on the Sabbath?
Or, si un homme reçoit la circoncision le jour du sabbat, afin que la loi de Moïse ne soit point violée, comment vous indignez-vous contre moi, parce que j’ai rendu un homme sain tout entier un jour de sabbat?
24 Judge not according to sight, but judge righteous judgment.
Ne jugez point sur l’apparence, mais rendez un juste jugement.
25 Then certain ones of Jerusalemites were saying, Is not this He whom they wished to kill?
Quelques-uns de Jérusalem disaient donc: N’est-ce pas là celui qu’ils cherchent à faire mourir?
26 And behold He speaks publicly, and they say nothing to Him. Whether do the rulers truly know that He is the Christ?
Et voilà qu’il parle publiquement, et ils ne lui disent rien. Les chefs du peuple auraient-ils réellement reconnu que c’est lui qui est le Christ?
27 But we know Him whence He is: but when Christ may come, no one knows whence He is.
Cependant pour celui-ci, nous savons d’où il est: mais quand le Christ viendra, personne ne saura d’où il est.
28 Then Jesus cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, You indeed know me, and know whence I am; and I have not come of myself, but the one sending me is true, whom you do not know.
Ainsi Jésus parlait à haute voix dans le temple, enseignant et disant: Et vous savez qui je suis, et vous savez d’où je suis; et je ne suis point venu de moi-même: mais il est vrai, celui qui m’a envoyé, et que vous ne connaissez point.
29 I know Him, because I am with Him, and He sent me.
Moi je le connais, parce que je suis de lui, et que c’est lui qui m’a envoyé.
30 Then they were seeking to arrest Him: and no one laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come.
Ils cherchaient donc à le prendre; mais personne ne mit la main sur lui, parce que son heure n’était pas encore venue.
31 And many from the multitude believed on Him; and continued to say, When Christ may come, will He do more miracles than this one is doing?
Mais beaucoup d’entre le peuple crurent en lui, et ils disaient: Le Christ, quand il viendra, fera-t-il plus de miracles que celui-ci n’en fait?
32 The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning Him; and the chief priests and Pharisees sent officers, that they should arrest Him.
Les pharisiens entendirent le peuple murmurant ainsi à son sujet; et les princes des prêtres et les pharisiens envoyèrent des archers pour le prendre.
33 Then Jesus said, Yet a little while I am with you, and I go to Him that sent me.
Jésus leur dit: Je suis encore un peu de temps avec vous; et je m’en vais à celui qui m’a envoyé.
34 You will seek me, and will not find me: and where I am, you are not able to come.
Vous me chercherez et ne me trouverez pas; et où je suis vous ne pouvez venir.
35 Then the Jews said to themselves, Where is He about to go, that we shall not find Him? is He about to go into the Dispersion of the Greek, and teach the Greeks?
Les Juifs dirent entre eux: Où doit donc aller celui-ci, que nous ne le trouverons point? doit-il aller chez les nations dispersées, et enseigner les gentils?
36 What is this word which He said, You shall seek me, and not find me: and where I am, you are not able to come?
Quelle est cette parole qu’il a dite: Vous me chercherez et ne me trouverez point: et où je suis vous ne pouvez venir?
37 And on the last great day of the feast, Jesus stood and continued to cry out, saying, If any one thirst, let him come and drink.
Le dernier jour de la fête, qui est le plus solennel, Jésus se tenait debout et s’écriait, disant: Si quelqu’un a soif, qu’il vienne à moi, et qu’il boive.
38 The one believing on me, as the Scripture said, out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water.
Celui qui croit en moi, comme dit l’Ecriture, des fleuves d’eau vive couleront de son sein.
39 And He spoke this concerning the Spirit, whom those believing on Him were about to receive: for the Spirit was not yet; because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Il disait cela de l’Esprit que devaient recevoir ceux qui croyaient en lui; car l’Esprit n’avait pas encore été donné, parce que Jésus n’était pas encore glorifié.
40 Then those hearing these words from the multitude, were saying, This is truly the prophet;
Parmi donc cette multitude qui avait entendu ces paroles: les uns disaient: Celui-ci est vraiment le prophète.
41 others were saying, He is the Christ; others were saying, For whether does Christ come out of Galilee?
D’autres disaient: Celui-ci est le Christ. Mais quelques uns disaient: Est-ce de la Galilée que vient le Christ?
42 Did not the Scripture say, that Christ comes from the seed of David and from the village of Bethlehem, where David was?
L’Ecriture ne dit-elle pas que c’est de la race de David et du bourg de Bethléem, où était David, que vient le Christ?
43 Then there was a schism in the crowd on account of Him:
Il s’éleva donc une dissension dans le peuple à cause de lui.
44 and some of them wished to arrest Him; but no one laid hands on Him.
Quelques-uns d’eux voulaient le prendre, mais aucun d’eux ne mit la main sur lui.
45 Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, Why did you not bring Him?
Ainsi les archers revinrent vers les pontifes et les pharisiens, qui leur demandèrent: Pourquoi ne l’avez-vous pas amené?
46 The officers responded, Never did a man so speak, as this man speaks.
Les archers répondirent: Jamais homme n’a parlé comme cet homme.
47 And the Pharisees responded to them; Are ye also deceived?
Mais les pharisiens leur répliquèrent: Avez-vous été séduits, vous aussi?
48 Whether has any one of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on Him?
Est-il quelqu’un d’entre les chefs du peuple ou d’entre les pharisiens, qui ait cru en lui?
49 But this crowd knowing not the law are accursed.
Mais cette foule, qui ne connaît pas la loi, ce sont des maudits.
50 Nicodemus being one of them, says to them;
Nicodème leur dit (c’était celui qui était venu de nuit à Jésus, et qui était l’un d’entre eux):
51 Whether does our law judge a man, until it may first hear from him and know what he does?
Est-ce que notre loi condamne un homme sans qu’auparavant on l’ait entendu, et sans qu’on sache ce qu’il a fait?
52 They responded and said to him, Whither art thou also from Galilee? Search, and see that no prophet rises out of Galilee.
Ils répondirent, et lui dirent: Est-ce que tu es aussi Galiléen? Lis avec soin les Ecritures, et tu verras: De la Galilée prophète ne surgit.
Et ils s’en retournaient chacun en sa maison.
