< Hebrews 4 >
1 Then let us fear, lest at some time, the promise to enter into his rest having been left, some of you may appear to have come short.
aparaṁ tadviśrāmaprāpteḥ pratijñā yadi tiṣṭhati tarhyasmākaṁ kaścit cet tasyāḥ phalena vañcito bhavet vayam etasmād bibhīmaḥ|
2 For we truly have had the gospel preached unto us, as they did also: but the word of hearing did not profit them, not being mixed with faith to those hearing.
yato 'smākaṁ samīpe yadvat tadvat teṣāṁ samīpe'pi susaṁvādaḥ pracārito 'bhavat kintu taiḥ śrutaṁ vākyaṁ tān prati niṣphalam abhavat, yataste śrotāro viśvāsena sārddhaṁ tannāmiśrayan|
3 For we who have believed, do enter into rest: as he has said, As I swore in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest: the works truly having been from the foundations of the world.
tad viśrāmasthānaṁ viśvāsibhirasmābhiḥ praviśyate yatastenoktaṁ, "ahaṁ kopāt śapathaṁ kṛtavān imaṁ, pravekṣyate janairetai rna viśrāmasthalaṁ mama|" kintu tasya karmmāṇi jagataḥ sṛṣṭikālāt samāptāni santi|
4 For he somewhere has spoken thus in reference to the seventh day, And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.
yataḥ kasmiṁścit sthāne saptamaṁ dinamadhi tenedam uktaṁ, yathā, "īśvaraḥ saptame dine svakṛtebhyaḥ sarvvakarmmabhyo viśaśrāma|"
5 And in this again he has said, They shall not enter into my rest.
kintvetasmin sthāne punastenocyate, yathā, "pravekṣyate janairetai rna viśrāmasthalaṁ mama|"
6 Then since it remains that some do enter into it, and those formerly having had the gospel preached unto them did not enter in on account of unbelief,
phalatastat sthānaṁ kaiścit praveṣṭavyaṁ kintu ye purā susaṁvādaṁ śrutavantastairaviśvāsāt tanna praviṣṭam,
7 again he appoints a certain day, saying in David, as has previously been said, This day, after so long a time; If you may hear his voice this day, harden not your hearts.
iti hetoḥ sa punaradyanāmakaṁ dinaṁ nirūpya dīrghakāle gate'pi pūrvvoktāṁ vācaṁ dāyūdā kathayati, yathā, "adya yūyaṁ kathāṁ tasya yadi saṁśrotumicchatha, tarhi mā kurutedānīṁ kaṭhināni manāṁsi vaḥ|"
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not speak concerning another day after these things.
aparaṁ yihośūyo yadi tān vyaśrāmayiṣyat tarhi tataḥ param aparasya dinasya vāg īśvareṇa nākathayiṣyata|
9 Therefore there is a sabbatism left for the people of God.
ata īśvarasya prajābhiḥ karttavya eko viśrāmastiṣṭhati|
10 For the one having entered into his rest has ceased from his works, as God did from his own.
aparam īśvaro yadvat svakṛtakarmmabhyo viśaśrāma tadvat tasya viśrāmasthānaṁ praviṣṭo jano'pi svakṛtakarmmabhyo viśrāmyati|
11 Therefore let us hasten to enter into that rest, lest some one may fall by the same example of unbelief.
ato vayaṁ tad viśrāmasthānaṁ praveṣṭuṁ yatāmahai, tadaviśvāsodāharaṇena ko'pi na patatu|
12 For the word of God is living, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing unto the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and a quick discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
īśvarasya vādo'maraḥ prabhāvaviśiṣṭaśca sarvvasmād dvidhārakhaṅgādapi tīkṣṇaḥ, aparaṁ prāṇātmano rgranthimajjayośca paribhedāya vicchedakārī manasaśca saṅkalpānām abhipretānāñca vicārakaḥ|
13 And no creature is hidden in his presence: but all things are naked and have been laid open to the eyes of him to whom the word is unto us.
aparaṁ yasya samīpe svīyā svīyā kathāsmābhiḥ kathayitavyā tasyāgocaraḥ ko'pi prāṇī nāsti tasya dṛṣṭau sarvvamevānāvṛtaṁ prakāśitañcāste|
14 Therefore having a great high priest, having entered into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast the testimony.
aparaṁ ya uccatamaṁ svargaṁ praviṣṭa etādṛśa eko vyaktirarthata īśvarasya putro yīśurasmākaṁ mahāyājako'sti, ato heto rvayaṁ dharmmapratijñāṁ dṛḍham ālambāmahai|
15 For we have not a high priest who is not able to be touched with our infirmities; but one having been tempted as to all things like unto us, apart from sin.
asmākaṁ yo mahāyājako 'sti so'smākaṁ duḥkhai rduḥkhito bhavitum aśakto nahi kintu pāpaṁ vinā sarvvaviṣaye vayamiva parīkṣitaḥ|
16 Therefore let us draw nigh with confidence to a throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and find grace in every opportune need.
ataeva kṛpāṁ grahītuṁ prayojanīyopakārārtham anugrahaṁ prāptuñca vayam utsāhenānugrahasiṁhāsanasya samīpaṁ yāmaḥ|
