Acts 24
1 And after five days Ananias the high priest with certain elders, and a certain orator Tertyllus, came down, who appeared before the governor against Paul.
Post quinque autem dies descendit princeps sacerdotum, Ananias, cum senioribus quibusdam, et Tertullo quodam oratore, qui adierunt praesidem adversus Paulum.
2 And he having been called, Tertyllus began to accuse him, saying,
Et citato Paulo coepit accusare Tertullus, dicens: Cum in multa pace agamus per te, et multa corrigantur per tuam providentiam;
3 Receiving great peace through thee, and prosperity accruing to this nation through thy wisdom, we receive with all gratitude, both always, and everywhere, O most noble Felix.
semper et ubique suscipimus, optime Felix, cum omni gratiarum actione.
4 But in order that I may not weary you excessively, I exhort you to hear us patiently according to your clemency.
Ne diutius autem te protraham, oro, breviter ut audias nos pro tua clementia.
5 For having found this man pestilential, and stirring up seditions to all the Jews who are throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:
Invenimus hunc hominem pestiferum, et concitantem seditiones omnibus Iudaeis in universo orbe, et auctorem seditionis sectae Nazarenorum:
6 who also endeavored to pollute the temple: whom we indeed arrested,
qui etiam templum violare conatus est, quem et apprehensum voluimus secundum legem nostram iudicare.
Superveniens autem tribunus Lysias, cum vi magna eripuit eum de manibus nostris,
8 with whom you yourself, having made inquiry, are able to know concerning all these things of which we accuse him.
iubens accusatores eius ad te venire: a quo poteris ipse iudicans, de omnibus istis cognoscere, de quibus nos accusamus eum.
9 And the Jews were consenting, saying, Truly these things are so.
Adiecerunt autem et Iudaei, dicentes haec ita se habere.
10 And Paul responded, the governor beckoning to him to speak; Knowing you to be a judge to this nation from many years, I cheerfully apologize as to the things concerning myself:
Respondit autem Paulus, (annuente sibi Praeside dicere) Ex multis annis te esse iudicem genti huic sciens, bono animo pro me satisfaciam.
11 you being able to know, that there are not more than twelve days to me since I came up to Jerusalem to worship.
Potes enim cognoscere quia non plus sunt mihi dies quam duodecim, ex quo ascendi adorare in Ierusalem:
12 Neither did they find me in the temple disputing with any one, or causing an excitement of the multitude, neither in the synagogues, nor throughout the city:
et neque in templo invenerunt me cum aliquo disputantem, aut concursum facientem turbae, neque in synagogis, neque in civitate:
13 neither are they able to prove before you the things which they are now accusing me.
neque probare possunt tibi de quibus nunc me accusant.
14 But I confess this to you, that according to the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of our fathers, believing all things which have been written in the law and in the prophets:
Confiteor autem hoc tibi, quod secundum sectam, quam dicunt haeresim, sic deservio Patri, et Deo meo, credens omnibus, quae in Lege, et Prophetis scripta sunt:
15 having hope towards God, which they themselves also receive, that there is going to be a resurrection, both of the just and unjust.
spem habens in Deum, quam et hi ipsi expectant, resurrectionem futuram iustorum, et iniquorum.
16 In this I also exercise, to always have a conscience void of offense toward God and men.
In hoc et ipse studeo sine offendiculo conscientiam habere ad Deum, et ad homines semper.
17 And after many years I came to do alms and offerings to my race;
Post annos autem plures eleemosynas facturus in gentem meam, veni, et oblationes, et vota,
18 in which they found me having been purified in the temple, not with rabble, nor with an uproar; and were certain Jews from Asia,
in quibus invenerunt me purificatum in templo: non cum turba, neque cum tumultu et apprehenderunt me clamantes, et dicentes: Tolle inimicum nostrum.
19 whom it behooves to be present before me, and accuse me, if they should have anything against me.
Quidam autem ex Asia Iudaei, quos oportebat apud te praesto esse, et accusare siquid haberent adversum me:
20 Or let them tell what injustice they found, while I was standing before the sanhedrim,
aut hi ipsi dicant siquid invenerunt in me iniquitatis cum stem in concilio,
21 except concerning this one voice, which I cried out standing in their midst, that concerning the resurrection of the dead I am judged before you this day.
nisi de una hac solummodo voce, qua clamavi inter eos stans: Quoniam de resurrectione mortuorum ego iudicor hodie a vobis.
22 And Felix having learned more thoroughly the things concerning the way, deferred them, saying, When Lysias the chiliarch may come down, I will diagnose the things appertaining to you:
Distulit autem illos Felix, certissime sciens de via hac, dicens: Cum Tribunus Lysias descenderit, audiam vos.
23 having commanded the centurion to keep him, and let him have liberty, and prohibit no one of his friends from ministering unto him.
Iussitque Centurioni custodire eum, et habere requiem, nec quemquam de suis prohibere ministrare ei.
24 And after certain day, Felix with Drusilla his wife, being a Jewess, coming, sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith which is towards Christ Jesus.
Post aliquot autem dies veniens Felix cum Drusilla uxore sua, quae erat Iudaea, vocavit Paulum, et audivit ab eo fidem, quae est in Christum Iesum.
25 And he reasoning concerning righteousness and temperance and the coming judgment, Felix, being alarmed, responded, Go thy way for this time; and having received an opportunity, I will call for thee:
Disputante autem illo de iustitia, et castitate, et de iudicio futuro, tremefactus Felix respondit: Quod nunc attinet, vade: tempore autem opportuno accersiam te:
26 at the same time also hoping that money will be given to him by Paul; therefore indeed the more frequently sending for him, he conversed with him.
simul et sperans, quod pecunia ei daretur a Paulo, propter quod et frequenter accersiens eum, loquebatur cum eo.
27 But two years having passed away Felix received Porcius Festus as his successor: and Felix, wishing to confer on the Jews a favor, left Paul bound.
Biennio autem expleto, accepit successorem Felix Portium Festum. Volens autem gratiam praestare Iudaeis Felix, reliquit Paulum vinctum.
