Acts 13
1 And there were prophets and teachers in the church at Antioch; Barnabas, and Symeon called Niger, and Lucius the Cyrenean, and Manahem, the foster-brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
aparañca barṇabbāḥ, śimon yaṁ nigraṁ vadanti, kurīnīyalūkiyo herodā rājñā saha kṛtavidyābhyāso minahem, śaulaścaite ye kiyanto janā bhaviṣyadvādina upadeṣṭāraścāntiyakhiyānagarasthamaṇḍalyām āsan,
2 And they ministering to the Lord, and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, Now separate unto me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.
te yadopavāsaṁ kṛtveśvaram asevanta tasmin samaye pavitra ātmā kathitavān ahaṁ yasmin karmmaṇi barṇabbāśailau niyuktavān tatkarmma karttuṁ tau pṛthak kuruta|
3 Then they having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, sent them away.
tatastairupavāsaprārthanayoḥ kṛtayoḥ satoste tayo rgātrayo rhastārpaṇaṁ kṛtvā tau vyasṛjan|
4 Then they indeed, having been sent away by the Holy Ghost, came down to Seleucia; and thence sailed away to Cyprus.
tataḥ paraṁ tau pavitreṇātmanā preritau santau silūkiyānagaram upasthāya samudrapathena kupropadvīpam agacchatāṁ|
5 And being in Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they also had John as their helper.
tataḥ sālāmīnagaram upasthāya tatra yihūdīyānāṁ bhajanabhavanāni gatveśvarasya kathāṁ prācārayatāṁ; yohanapi tatsahacaro'bhavat|
6 And having gone through the whole island to Paphos, they found a certain man, a magician, a Jewish false prophet, to whom was the name of Bar-Jesus:
itthaṁ te tasyopadvīpasya sarvvatra bhramantaḥ pāphanagaram upasthitāḥ; tatra suvivecakena sarjiyapaulanāmnā taddeśādhipatinā saha bhaviṣyadvādino veśadhārī baryīśunāmā yo māyāvī yihūdī āsīt taṁ sākṣāt prāptavataḥ|
7 who was with Sergius Paulus, the proconsul, an intelligent man. He, having called Barnabas and Saul, sought to hear the word of God;
taddeśādhipa īśvarasya kathāṁ śrotuṁ vāñchan paulabarṇabbau nyamantrayat|
8 but Elymas the magician (for thus his name is interpreted) opposed them, seeking to turn away the proconsul from the faith.
kintvilumā yaṁ māyāvinaṁ vadanti sa deśādhipatiṁ dharmmamārgād bahirbhūtaṁ karttum ayatata|
9 And Saul, (who is also Paul), being filled with the Holy Ghost, fixing his eyes on him,
tasmāt śolo'rthāt paulaḥ pavitreṇātmanā paripūrṇaḥ san taṁ māyāvinaṁ pratyananyadṛṣṭiṁ kṛtvākathayat,
10 said, O thou full of all guile and rascality, thou son of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease perverting the right ways of God?
he narakin dharmmadveṣin kauṭilyaduṣkarmmaparipūrṇa, tvaṁ kiṁ prabhoḥ satyapathasya viparyyayakaraṇāt kadāpi na nivarttiṣyase?
11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a time. And immediately there fell on him a mist and darkness; and going about he was seeking people to lead him by the hand.
adhunā parameśvarastava samucitaṁ kariṣyati tena katipayadināni tvam andhaḥ san sūryyamapi na drakṣyasi| tatkṣaṇād rātrivad andhakārastasya dṛṣṭim ācchāditavān; tasmāt tasya hastaṁ dharttuṁ sa lokamanvicchan itastato bhramaṇaṁ kṛtavān|
12 Then the deputy, seeing that which took place, believed; being delighted with the teaching of the Lord.
enāṁ ghaṭanāṁ dṛṣṭvā sa deśādhipatiḥ prabhūpadeśād vismitya viśvāsaṁ kṛtavān|
13 And those around Paul having sailed from Paphos, came into Perge of Pamphylia: and John having departed from them returned to Jerusalem.
tadanantaraṁ paulastatsaṅginau ca pāphanagarāt protaṁ cālayitvā pamphuliyādeśasya pargīnagaram agacchan kintu yohan tayoḥ samīpād etya yirūśālamaṁ pratyāgacchat|
14 And they having come from Perge, arrived into Picidian Antioch, and having come into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, they sat down.
paścāt tau pargīto yātrāṁ kṛtvā pisidiyādeśasya āntiyakhiyānagaram upasthāya viśrāmavāre bhajanabhavanaṁ praviśya samupāviśatāṁ|
15 And after the reading of the law and the prophets, the chief rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, Men, brethren, if there is any word of consolation to the people in you, speak.
vyavasthābhaviṣyadvākyayoḥ paṭhitayoḥ sato rhe bhrātarau lokān prati yuvayoḥ kācid upadeśakathā yadyasti tarhi tāṁ vadataṁ tau prati tasya bhajanabhavanasyādhipatayaḥ kathām etāṁ kathayitvā praiṣayan|
16 And Paul, rising up, and beckoning with his hand said; Israelitish men, and those fearing God, hear.
ataḥ paula uttiṣṭhan hastena saṅketaṁ kurvvan kathitavān he isrāyelīyamanuṣyā īśvaraparāyaṇāḥ sarvve lokā yūyam avadhaddhaṁ|
17 The God of this people Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people during their sojourn in the land of Egypt, and with a strong arm led them out of it;
eteṣāmisrāyellokānām īśvaro'smākaṁ pūrvvaparuṣān manonītān katvā gṛhītavān tato misari deśe pravasanakāle teṣāmunnatiṁ kṛtvā tasmāt svīyabāhubalena tān bahiḥ kṛtvā samānayat|
18 and when he supported them about the time of forty years in the wilderness,
catvāriṁśadvatsarān yāvacca mahāprāntare teṣāṁ bharaṇaṁ kṛtvā
19 and having destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them the inheritance of the land about four hundred and fifty years.
kināndeśāntarvvarttīṇi saptarājyāni nāśayitvā guṭikāpātena teṣu sarvvadeśeṣu tebhyo'dhikāraṁ dattavān|
20 And after these things he gave them judges, till Samuel the prophet.
pañcāśadadhikacatuḥśateṣu vatsareṣu gateṣu ca śimūyelbhaviṣyadvādiparyyantaṁ teṣāmupari vicārayitṛn niyuktavān|
21 And then they asked for a king: and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, forty years;
taiśca rājñi prārthite, īśvaro binyāmīno vaṁśajātasya kīśaḥ putraṁ śaulaṁ catvāriṁśadvarṣaparyyantaṁ teṣāmupari rājānaṁ kṛtavān|
22 and having deposed him, he raised up to them David for a king; to whom witnessing he also said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man according to my own heart, who will do all my wishes.
paścāt taṁ padacyutaṁ kṛtvā yo madiṣṭakriyāḥ sarvvāḥ kariṣyati tādṛśaṁ mama manobhimatam ekaṁ janaṁ yiśayaḥ putraṁ dāyūdaṁ prāptavān idaṁ pramāṇaṁ yasmin dāyūdi sa dattavān taṁ dāyūdaṁ teṣāmupari rājatvaṁ karttum utpāditavāna|
23 From whose seed according to the promise he led forth Jesus, the Savior, to Israel:
tasya svapratiśrutasya vākyasyānusāreṇa isrāyellokānāṁ nimittaṁ teṣāṁ manuṣyāṇāṁ vaṁśād īśvara ekaṁ yīśuṁ (trātāram) udapādayat|
24 and John having preached the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel, before the face of his coming.
tasya prakāśanāt pūrvvaṁ yohan isrāyellokānāṁ sannidhau manaḥparāvarttanarūpaṁ majjanaṁ prācārayat|
25 And when John fulfilled his course, he said, What do you consider me to be? I am not he: but, behold, there comes one after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to loose.
yasya ca karmmaṇo bhāraṁ praptavān yohan tan niṣpādayan etāṁ kathāṁ kathitavān, yūyaṁ māṁ kaṁ janaṁ jānītha? aham abhiṣiktatrātā nahi, kintu paśyata yasya pādayoḥ pādukayo rbandhane mocayitumapi yogyo na bhavāmi tādṛśa eko jano mama paścād upatiṣṭhati|
26 Men, brethren, sons of the race of Abraham, and those among you fearing God, unto us the word of this salvation was sent.
he ibrāhīmo vaṁśajātā bhrātaro he īśvarabhītāḥ sarvvalokā yuṣmān prati paritrāṇasya kathaiṣā preritā|
27 For those dwelling in Jerusalem, and the rulers, having rejected him, condemning him, have
yirūśālamnivāsinasteṣām adhipatayaśca tasya yīśoḥ paricayaṁ na prāpya prativiśrāmavāraṁ paṭhyamānānāṁ bhaviṣyadvādikathānām abhiprāyam abuddhvā ca tasya vadhena tāḥ kathāḥ saphalā akurvvan|
28 fulfilled the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath; and having found no cause of death, asked Pilate that he should be executed;
prāṇahananasya kamapi hetum aprāpyāpi pīlātasya nikaṭe tasya vadhaṁ prārthayanta|
29 and when they perfected all the things which had been written concerning him, taking him down from the cross, placed him in a sepulchre.
tasmin yāḥ kathā likhitāḥ santi tadanusāreṇa karmma sampādya taṁ kruśād avatāryya śmaśāne śāyitavantaḥ|
30 And God raised him from the dead;
kintvīśvaraḥ śmaśānāt tamudasthāpayat,
31 who appeared to those coming up with him to Jerusalem from Galilee many days, who are now his witnesses to the people.
punaśca gālīlapradeśād yirūśālamanagaraṁ tena sārddhaṁ ye lokā āgacchan sa bahudināni tebhyo darśanaṁ dattavān, atasta idānīṁ lokān prati tasya sākṣiṇaḥ santi|
32 And we preach unto you the promise, which was made to the fathers,
asmākaṁ pūrvvapuruṣāṇāṁ samakṣam īśvaro yasmin pratijñātavān yathā, tvaṁ me putrosi cādya tvāṁ samutthāpitavānaham|
33 that God has fulfilled this unto our children, raising up Jesus, as in the second Psalm it has been written, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.
idaṁ yadvacanaṁ dvitīyagīte likhitamāste tad yīśorutthānena teṣāṁ santānā ye vayam asmākaṁ sannidhau tena pratyakṣī kṛtaṁ, yuṣmān imaṁ susaṁvādaṁ jñāpayāmi|
34 And because he raised him up from the dead, no longer about to return to corruption, He has thus said, I will give unto you the faithful mercies of David.
parameśvareṇa śmaśānād utthāpitaṁ tadīyaṁ śarīraṁ kadāpi na kṣeṣyate, etasmin sa svayaṁ kathitavān yathā dāyūdaṁ prati pratijñāto yo varastamahaṁ tubhyaṁ dāsyāmi|
35 Therefore He also says in another place, Thou wilt not suffer thy Holy One to see corruption.
etadanyasmin gīte'pi kathitavān| svakīyaṁ puṇyavantaṁ tvaṁ kṣayituṁ na ca dāsyasi|
36 For David, indeed having served his own generation according to the will of God, went to sleep, and did see corruption:
dāyūdā īśvarābhimatasevāyai nijāyuṣi vyayite sati sa mahānidrāṁ prāpya nijaiḥ pūrvvapuruṣaiḥ saha militaḥ san akṣīyata;
37 but he, whom God raised up, did not see corruption.
kintu yamīśvaraḥ śmaśānād udasthāpayat sa nākṣīyata|
38 Then let it be known unto you, men brethren, that through this one remission of sins is preached:
ato he bhrātaraḥ, anena janena pāpamocanaṁ bhavatīti yuṣmān prati pracāritam āste|
39 and in him every one believing is justified from all things from which ye were not able to be justified by the law of Moses.
phalato mūsāvyavasthayā yūyaṁ yebhyo doṣebhyo muktā bhavituṁ na śakṣyatha tebhyaḥ sarvvadoṣebhya etasmin jane viśvāsinaḥ sarvve muktā bhaviṣyantīti yuṣmābhi rjñāyatāṁ|
40 Then beware, lest the word which has been spoken by the prophets may come upon you;
aparañca| avajñākāriṇo lokāścakṣurunmīlya paśyata| tathaivāsambhavaṁ jñātvā syāta yūyaṁ vilajjitāḥ| yato yuṣmāsu tiṣṭhatsu kariṣye karmma tādṛśaṁ| yenaiva tasya vṛttānte yuṣmabhyaṁ kathite'pi hi| yūyaṁ na tantu vṛttāntaṁ pratyeṣyatha kadācana||
41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and vanish away: because I work a work in your days, a work which you may not believe, though one may proclaim it to you.
yeyaṁ kathā bhaviṣyadvādināṁ grantheṣu likhitāste sāvadhānā bhavata sa kathā yathā yuṣmān prati na ghaṭate|
42 And they going out, they continued to entreat them that these words should be spoken to them on the next Sabbath.
yihūdīyabhajanabhavanān nirgatayostayo rbhinnadeśīyai rvakṣyamāṇā prārthanā kṛtā, āgāmini viśrāmavāre'pi katheyam asmān prati pracāritā bhavatviti|
43 And the synagogue having been adjourned, many of the Jews and pious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who, speaking with them, continued to persuade them to abide in the grace of God.
sabhāyā bhaṅge sati bahavo yihūdīyalokā yihūdīyamatagrāhiṇo bhaktalokāśca barṇabbāpaulayoḥ paścād āgacchan, tena tau taiḥ saha nānākathāḥ kathayitveśvarānugrahāśraye sthātuṁ tān prāvarttayatāṁ|
44 And on the following Sabbath almost all the city came together to hear the word of the Lord.
paraviśrāmavāre nagarasya prāyeṇa sarvve lākā īśvarīyāṁ kathāṁ śrotuṁ militāḥ,
45 And the Jews seeing the multitudes, were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the word spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.
kintu yihūdīyalokā jananivahaṁ vilokya īrṣyayā paripūrṇāḥ santo viparītakathākathaneneśvaranindayā ca paulenoktāṁ kathāṁ khaṇḍayituṁ ceṣṭitavantaḥ|
46 And Paul and Barnabas speaking boldly, said, It was necessary that the word of God should first be spoken to you: since you have rejected it, and judge yourselves not worthy of eternal life, behold we now turn to the Gentiles. (aiōnios g166)
tataḥ paulabarṇabbāvakṣobhau kathitavantau prathamaṁ yuṣmākaṁ sannidhāvīśvarīyakathāyāḥ pracāraṇam ucitamāsīt kintuṁ tadagrāhyatvakaraṇena yūyaṁ svān anantāyuṣo'yogyān darśayatha, etatkāraṇād vayam anyadeśīyalokānāṁ samīpaṁ gacchāmaḥ| (aiōnios g166)
47 For thus the Lord has commanded us, I have placed thee for a light of the Gentiles, that thou shalt be for salvation unto the extremity of the earth.
prabhurasmān ittham ādiṣṭavān yathā, yāvacca jagataḥ sīmāṁ lokānāṁ trāṇakāraṇāt| mayānyadeśamadhye tvaṁ sthāpito bhūḥ pradīpavat||
48 And the Gentiles hearing, rejoiced, and glorified the word of the Lord: and so many as had been ordained unto eternal life believed: (aiōnios g166)
tadā kathāmīdṛśīṁ śrutvā bhinnadeśīyā āhlāditāḥ santaḥ prabhoḥ kathāṁ dhanyāṁ dhanyām avadan, yāvanto lokāśca paramāyuḥ prāptinimittaṁ nirūpitā āsan te vyaśvasan| (aiōnios g166)
49 and the word of the Lord was carried throughout all the country.
itthaṁ prabhoḥ kathā sarvvedeśaṁ vyāpnot|
50 And the Jews stirred up the noble godly women, and the first men of the city, and they raised a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their borders.
kintu yihūdīyā nagarasya pradhānapuruṣān sammānyāḥ kathipayā bhaktā yoṣitaśca kupravṛttiṁ grāhayitvā paulabarṇabbau tāḍayitvā tasmāt pradeśād dūrīkṛtavantaḥ|
51 And having cast off the dust from their feet against them, they came into Iconium.
ataḥ kāraṇāt tau nijapadadhūlīsteṣāṁ prātikūlyena pātayitvekaniyaṁ nagaraṁ gatau|
52 And the disciples were filled with joy, and the Holy Ghost.
tataḥ śiṣyagaṇa ānandena pavitreṇātmanā ca paripūrṇobhavat|
