< Acts 11 >

1 But the apostles and brethren being throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also received the word of God.
2 And when Peter went tip to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision interviewed him, say
3 that, You went in unto men having uncircumcision, and ate with them.
4 And Peter beginning expounded unto them consecutively, saying,
incipiens autem Petrus exponebat illis ordinem dicens
5 I was praying in the city Joppa: and I saw a vision in an ecstasy, A certain vessel, like a great sheet, descending from the heaven, sitting down by four rope ends; and came even unto me:
ego eram in civitate Ioppe orans et vidi in excessu mentis visionem descendens vas quoddam velut linteum magnum quattuor initiis submitti de caelo et venit usque ad me
6 into which looking, I was investigating, and I saw quadrupeds of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and the birds of the heaven.
7 And I also heard a voice saying to me, Arising, Peter; slay and eat.
8 And I said, By no means, Lord: because nothing unconsecrated or unclean has ever entered into my mouth.
9 And a voice a second time was heard from heaven, Whatsoever things God has cleansed, consider thou not unconsecrated.
10 And this took place three times: and all things were again taken up into the heaven.
11 And, behold, immediately three men were standing at the house in which we were, having been sent to me from Cornelius.
et ecce confestim tres viri adstiterunt in domo in qua eram missi a Caesarea ad me
12 And the Spirit said to me, to go with them, doubting nothing. And these six brethren went along with me, and we entered into the house of the man.
13 And he proclaimed to us how he saw an angel standing in his house, and saying, Send to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is called Peter;
14 who will speak words to you, by which you and your whole family may be saved.
qui loquetur tibi verba in quibus salvus eris tu et universa domus tua
15 And when I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.
16 And I remembered the word of the Lord, as He said, John indeed baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
recordatus sum autem verbi Domini sicut dicebat Iohannes quidem baptizavit aqua vos autem baptizabimini Spiritu Sancto
17 Since then God gave unto them the equal gift, as also unto us, believing on the Lord Jesus Christ; who was I, to be able to resist God?
18 And hearing these things, they acquiesced, and glorified God, saying, Then God has also given unto the Gentiles repentance unto life.
19 Then indeed those having been dispersed abroad on account of the persecution prevailing over Stephen came through even to Phoenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except Jews only.
20 And of them there were certain Cyprian and Cyrenean men, who, having come into Antioch, were speaking to the Greeks also, preaching the gospel of the Lord Jesus.
21 And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number having believed, turned to the Lord.
22 And the word was heard in the ears of the church in Jerusalem concerning them: and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.
23 Who, coming, and seeing the grace of God, rejoiced, and continued to exhort all, with purpose of heart to abide with the Lord:
24 because he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and faith. And a great multitude was added to the Lord.
25 And he went away to Tarsus, to hunt up Saul: and having found him, led him to Antioch.
26 And it happened unto them, a whole year indeed they assembled in the church, and taught a great multitude: and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
27 And during those days prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch.
in his autem diebus supervenerunt ab Hierosolymis prophetae Antiochiam
28 And one of them by name Agabus, standing up, signified through the Spirit that there is about to be a great famine throughout the whole world: which took place under the reign of Claudius.
29 And they determined that each one of them should send to the ministry to the brethren dwelling in Judea, as each one of the disciples was prosperous;
discipuli autem prout quis habebat proposuerunt singuli eorum in ministerium mittere habitantibus in Iudaea fratribus
30 and this they did, sending to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
