< 2 Timothy 2 >
1 Therefore, my child, be thou filled up with dynamite in the grace which is in Christ Jesus,
You therefore, my child, be strengthened in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 and whatsoever things thou hast heard with me through many witnesses, commit thou the same to faithful men, who will be able also to teach others.
The things which you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same to faithful people, who will be able to teach others also.
3 Suffer affliction, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
You therefore must share in hardship, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4 No one operating as a soldier is entangled with the affairs of life; in order that he may please his commander.
No soldier on duty entangles himself in the affairs of life, that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier.
5 But if indeed any one may fight, he is not crowned unless he may fight lawfully.
Also, if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he has competed by the rules.
6 It behooves the toiling farmer first to partake of the fruits.
The farmers who labor must be the first to get a share of the crops.
7 Know what I say; for the Lord will give you understanding in all things.
Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in all things.
8 Remember Jesus Christ, who is risen from the dead, from the seed of David, according to my gospel:
Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, a descendant of David, according to my Good News,
9 in whom I suffer affliction as an evil-doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
in which I suffer hardship to the point of chains as a criminal. But God's word is not chained.
10 On account of this I endure all things for the sake of the elect, in order that they may also have the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. (aiōnios )
Therefore I endure all things for the chosen ones' sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with everlasting glory. (aiōnios )
11 It is a faithful saying: For if we die along with him, we will also live with him:
This saying is faithful: "For if we died with him, we will also live with him.
12 if we endure, we will truly reign with him: if we shall deny him, he will also deny us:
If we endure, we will also reign with him. If we deny him, he also will deny us.
13 if we are unfaithful, he remains faithful; for he is not able to deny himself.
If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself."
14 Remember these things, testifying before God, that they shall not fight with words, profitable unto nothing, for the overturning of those who hear.
Remind them of these things, charging them in the presence of God, not to wrangle about words, to no profit, to the subverting of those who hear.
15 Study to present yourself to God approved, a workman not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Do your best to present yourself approved by God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, properly handling the word of truth.
16 But reject the unsanctified empty talks: for they will proceed unto more of ungodliness,
But shun empty chatter, for they will proceed further in ungodliness,
17 and their word like gangrene will have eating. Of whom are Hymenaeus and Phyletus;
and their word will consume like gangrene, of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
18 who have made shipwreck concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection has already come, and they overturn the faith of some.
who have erred concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past, and overthrowing the faith of some.
19 The foundation of God stands solid indeed, having this seal, The Lord knows them that are his: and; Let every one naming the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.
However God's firm foundation stands, having this seal, "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Let every one who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness."
20 But in a great house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also wood and stone, the former truly indeed unto honor, but the latter unto dishonor.
Now in a large house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of clay. Some are for honor, and some for dishonor.
21 Therefore if any one may cleanse himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, having been sanctified, well pleasing to the Lord, having been prepared unto every good work.
If anyone therefore purges himself from these, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, and suitable for the master's use, prepared for every good work.
22 But fly from youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, divine love, peace, with those who call upon the Lord out of a clean heart.
Flee from youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
23 But reject foolish and undisciplinary questions, knowing that they gender strife.
But refuse foolish and ignorant questionings, knowing that they generate strife.
24 But it does not behoove the servant of the Lord to strive, but to be gentle toward all, competent to teach, enduring evil,
The Lord's servant must not quarrel, but be gentle towards all, able to teach, patient,
25 in meekness correcting the adversaries; if peradventure God may grant unto them repentance into the perfect knowledge of the truth,
in gentleness correcting those who oppose him: perhaps God may give them repentance leading to a full knowledge of the truth,
26 and they may escape from the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him (the Lord's servant) according to his will.
and they may recover themselves out of the devil's snare, having been taken captive by him to his will.
