1 Timothy 3
1 It is a faithful saying, If any one desires the episcopacy, he covets a beautiful work.
Den Tale er troværdig; dersom nogen begærer en Tilsynsgerning har han Lyst til en skøn Gerning.
2 Therefore it behooves the bishop to be blameless, the husband of one wife, modest, prudent, orderly, hospitable, competent to teach,
En Tilsynsmand bør derfor være ulastelig, een Kvindes Mand, ædruelig, sindig, høvisk, gæstfri, dygtig til at lære andre;
3 not given to wine, not a controvertist; but gentle, peaceable, not a money lover;
ikke hengiven til Vin, ikke til Slagsmål, men mild, ikke kivagtig, ikke pengegridsk;
4 ruling his own house beautifully; having children in subordination with all gravity;
en Mand, som forestår sit eget Hus vel, som har Børn, der ere lydige med al Ærbarhed;
5 but if any one does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?
(dersom en ikke veed at forestå sit eget Hus, hvorledes vil han da kunne sørge for Guds Menighed?)
6 not a novice, lest being puffed up he may fall into the condemnation of the devil.
ikke ny i Troen, som at han ikke skal blive opblæst og falde ind under Djævelens Dom.
7 But it also behooves him indeed to have a beautiful testimony from the aliens, in order that he may not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
Men han bør også have et godt Vidnesbyrd af dem, som ere udenfor; for at han ikke skal falde i Forhånelse og Djævelens Snare.
8 Likewise let the deacons be grave, not double tongued, not given to much wine, not fond of filthy lucre;
Menighedstjenere bør ligeledes være ærbare, ikke tvetungede, ikke hengivne til megen Vin, ikke til slet Vinding,
9 having the testimony of faith in a pure conscience.
bevarende Troens Hemmelighed i en ren Samvittighed.
10 And let them also first be proven; then let them minister the office of deacon, being irreproachable.
Men også disse skulle først prøves, og siden gøre Tjeneste, hvis de ere ustrafelige.
11 Likewise let their wives be grave, not tattlers, modest, faithful in all things.
Kvinder bør ligeledes være ærbare, ikke bagtaleriske, ædruelige, tro i alle Ting.
12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses beautifully.
En Menighedstjener skal være een Kvindes Mand og forestå sine Børn og sit eget Hus vel.
13 For those having ministered the office of a deacon beautifully procure to themselves beautiful progress, and much boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Thi de, som have tjent vel i Menigheden, de erhverve sig selv en smuk Stilling og megen Frimodighed i Troen på Kristus Jesus.
14 I write these things to you, hoping to come to you more speedily;
Disse Ting skriver jeg dig til, ihvorvel jeg håber at komme snart til dig;
15 but if I tarry, in order that you may know how it behooves you to deport yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
men dersom jeg tøver, da skal du heraf vide, hvorledes man bør færdes i Guds Hus, hvilket jo er den levende Guds Menighed, Sandhedens Søjle og Grundvold.
16 And assuredly great is the mystery of godliness; Who is manifested in the flesh, was justified in the spirit, was seen of angels, was preached among the Gentiles, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory.
Og uden Modsigelse stor er den Gudsfrygtens Hemmelighed: Han, som blev åbenbaret i Kød, blev retfærdiggjort i Ånd, set af Engle, prædiket iblandt Hedninger, troet i Verden, optagen i Herlighed.
