1 Thessalonians 5
1 But concerning the times and seasons, brethren, you have no need that I write to you;
Men om Tid og Time, Brødre! have I ikke nødig, at der skrives til eder;
2 for you yourselves know well, that the day of the Lord is so coming like a thief in the night.
thi I vide selv grant, at Herrens Dag kommer som en Tyv om Natten.
3 When they may say, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction comes on them, as travail upon a woman in gestation; and they can not escape.
Naar de sige: „Fred og ingen Fare!” da kommer Undergang pludselig over dem ligesom Veerne over den frugtsommelige, og de skulle ingenlunde undfly.
4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day may overtake you like a thief:
Men I, Brødre! I ere ikke i Mørke, saa at Dagen skulde overraske eder som en Tyv.
5 for you are all the sons of light, and the sons of day: we are not of night, nor of darkness;
Thi I ere alle Lysets Børn og Dagens Børn, vi ere ikke Nattens eller Mørkets Børn.
6 then therefore let us not sleep like the rest, but watch and be sober.
Saa lader os da ikke sove ligesom de andre, men lader os vaage og være ædrue!
7 For those sleeping, sleep in the night; and those who are drunken, get drunk in the night:
Thi de, som sove, sove om Natten, og de, som beruse sig, ere berusede om Natten.
8 but let us, who are of the day, be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and divine love; and the helmet, the hope of salvation:
Men da vi høre Dagen til, saa lader os være ædrue, iførte Troens og Kærlighedens Panser og Frelsens Haab som Hjelm!
9 because God did not put us forth unto wrath, but unto the obtainment of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Thi Gud bestemte os ikke til Vrede, men til at vinde Frelse ved vor Herre Jesus Kristus,
10 the one having died for us, in order that, whether we are awake or asleep, we shall at the same time live with him.
som døde for os, for at vi, hvad enten vi vaage eller sove, skulle leve sammen med ham.
11 Therefore exhort one another, and edify either the other, as you indeed are doing.
Formaner derfor hverandre og opbygger den ene den anden, ligesom I ogsaa gøre.
12 But we intreat you, brethren, to know those who are laboring among you, and standing before you in the Lord, and admonishing you;
Men vi bede eder, Brødre! at I skønne paa dem, som arbejde iblandt eder og ere eders Forstandere i Herren og paaminde eder.
13 and that you yourselves esteem them exceedingly in divine love for the sake of their work. Live in peace among yourselves.
og agte dem højlig i Kærlighed for deres Gernings Skyld. Holder Fred med hverandre!
14 And we, exhort you, brethren, admonish the unruly, comfort the small-souled people, support the weak, be longsuffering toward all.
Og vi formane eder, Brødre! paaminder de uskikkelige, trøster de modfaldne, tager eder af de skrøbelige, værer langmodige imod alle!
15 See that no one may return evil for evil to any one; but always pursue good toward one another, and toward all.
Ser til, at ingen gengælder nogen ondt med ondt; men stræber altid efter det gode, baade imod hverandre og imod alle.
16 Rejoice evermore;
Værer altid glade,
17 pray without ceasing;
beder uafladelig,
18 in every thing give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus towards you.
takker i alle Forhold; thi dette er Guds Villie med eder i Kristus Jesus.
19 Quench not the Spirit;
Udslukker ikke Aanden,
20 despise not prophesying;
ringeagter ikke Profetier,
21 but prove all things; and hold fast to the beautiful;
prøver alt, beholder det gode!
22 abstain from every evil sight.
Holder eder fra det onde under alle Skikkelser!
23 And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless, in the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Men han selv, Fredens Gud, helliggøre eder ganske og aldeles, og gid eders Aand og Sjæl og Legeme maa bevares helt og holdent, uden Dadel i vor Herres Jesu Kristi Tilkommelse!
24 Faithful is the one calling you, who indeed will do it.
Trofast er han, som kaldte eder, han skal ogsaa gøre det.
25 Brethren, pray for us.
Brødre! beder for os!
26 Salute all the brethren with a holy kiss.
Hilser alle Brødrene med et helligt Kys!
27 I adjure you in the name of the Lord, that this epistle shall be read to all the brethren.
Jeg besværger eder ved Herren, at dette Brev maa blive oplæst for alle de hellige Brødre.
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
Vor Herres Jesu Kristi Naade være med eder!
