1 Peter 2

1 Therefore having laid aside all evil, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envyings, and all calumniations;

לפיכך, הפסיקו לעשות מעשים רעים! אל תרמו, אל תקנאו, אל תרכלו ואל תוציאו דיבה.

2 like newly born babes, desire the pure milk of the word, in order that you may grow thereby unto salvation:

אכן, אם אתם באמת מעריכים את טוב־לבו של האדון, חדלו לכם מהרשע, וכתינוקות רכים המשתוקקים לחלב אמם השתוקקו לחלב רוחני טהור, שיעזור לכם לגדול ולהגיע לבגרות רוחנית ולישועה מושלמת.

3 if you have tasted that the Lord is good.

4 Unto whom going forth, to a living stone, indeed rejected by men, but elect with God, precious,

בואו אל המשיח שהוא אבן־פינה חיה! בני־האדם זלזלו בו, אך לאלוהים שבחר בו להיות מעל הכול, יקר המשיח מכל!

5 and you, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, into a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices, acceptable unto God through Jesus Christ.

עתה נעשיתם אבנים חיות, ואלוהים בונה בכם את משכנו הרוחני. במשכנו זה אתם כוהניו הקדושים, ובשם ישוע המשיח עליכם להקריב לו זבחים שימצאו־חן בעיניו.

6 Because it runs thus in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious: and the one believing on him can not be ashamed.

בקשר לכך אומר לנו אלוהים בכתבי־הקודש:”הנני יוסד בציון אבן פינה, אבן בוחן ויקרה, המאמין בה לא יבוש“.

7 Therefore to you who believe he is precious: but to the unbelievers, the stone which the builders rejected, the same has become the head of the corner, and the stone of stumbling, and the rock of offence,

לכם, המאמינים, אבן זאת יקרה מאוד, אך לאלה שאינם מאמינים:”האבן שמאסו הבונים הייתה לראש פינה,

8 who stumble over the word, disbelieving: unto which they indeed were appointed.

לאבן נגף וצור מכשול“. אכן, אלה שאינם מאמינים ייכשלו, שכן לא יקשיבו לדבר אלוהים, וכך יקבלו את העונש שמיועד להם.

9 But you are an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people unto conquest; in order that you may proclaim the virtues of the one having called you out of darkness unto his own marvelous light:

אולם אתם שונים מהם; אתם נבחרתם על־ידי אלוהים עצמו לממלכת כוהנים, לעם קדוש ומיוחד, כדי שתראו לבני־האדם כיצד הוציאכם אלוהים מהחשכה והביאכם אל אורו הנפלא.

10 who at one time were no people, but now you are the people of God: who had not obtained mercy, lint just now having received mercy.

בעבר התכחש אלוהים אליכם, אך עתה עם אלוהים אתם! בעבר לא הכרתם את טוב לבו של אלוהים; עתה טוב־לבו זה שינה את חייכם לחלוטין.

11 Beloved, I exhort you as pilgrims and strangers, to abstain from the carnal desire which wars against the soul;

אחים יקרים ואהובים, אני מתחנן לפניכם, אנא, התנהגו בעולם הזה כזרים, מעין תושבים ארעיים, ואל תיכנעו לפיתויי העולם הזה שמתגרים בנפשותיכם.

12 having your deportment beautiful among the Gentiles: in order that in whatsoever they calumniate you as evil doers, seeing from your beautiful works, they may glorify God in the day of his visitation.

הקפידו על התנהגות טובה עם שכניכם הלא־מאמינים. התנהגו איתם בצדק וביושר כדי שיראו את מעשיכם הטובים, וכך, למרות חשדותיהם הנוכחיים, בבוא המשיח הם יפארו את שמו על־שום מעשיכם הטובים.

13 Submit to every human creature for the sake of the Lord: whether to the king as supereminent,

היכנעו לכל שלטון אנושי למען אדוננו, בין אם למלך כראש המדינה,

14 or to governors, as those having been sent out by him unto the condemnation of evil doers, and the praise of those doing good;

ובין אם לנציגים אשר שלח להעניש את עושי הרע ולשבח את עושי הטוב.

15 because thus it is the will of God, that doing good you should put to shame the ignorance of the ignorant people:

אלוהים רוצה שתעשו אך ורק את הטוב, כדי שמעשיכם הטובים ישתיקו את הלא־מאמינים אשר, מתוך טיפשות וחוסר דעת, מחפשים סיבה לדבר נגדכם ונגד הבשורה.

16 as free, and not as having the freedom as a cover of evil, but as servants of God.

אתם אמנם חופשיים, אך הנכם עבדים לאלוהים, אז אל תנצלו את היותכם חופשיים כתירוץ לעשות את הרע.

17 Honor all people; love the brotherhood with divine love; fear God; honor the king.

כבדו את כל בני האדם; אהבו את המאמינים, כבדו את השלטונות, והתייחסו ביראה אל אלוהים.

18 Servants, be submissive to your masters with all reverence; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the wicked.

עבדים, כבדו את אדוניכם, ועשו כל מה שיאמרו לכם – לא רק אם הם טובי־לב וענווים, אלא גם אם הם קפדנים ואכזרים.

19 For this is grace, if, through the conscience of God, one bears sorrows and suffering unjustly.

אם אתם נענשים חינם על מעשה טוב שעשיתם, הללו את אלוהים!

20 For what glory is there, if, committing sin and being buffeted, you endure it? But if, doing good and suffering you endure it, this is grace with God.

אחרי הכול, אם נענשתם על מעשה רע שעשיתם, לא מגיע לכם פרס; אך אם אתם נענשים וסובלים בגלל מעשיכם הטובים, מוצא הדבר חן בעיני אלוהים.

21 For unto this you have been called: because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you may follow in his steps:

אלוהים יעד לכם סבל זה, שהרי גם המשיח סבל למענכם והשאיר לכם דוגמה ללכת בעקבותיו.

22 who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth,

המשיח לא חטא מעולם, לא רימה,

23 who, being reviled, reviled not again; suffering, he threatened not, but gave up to the one judging righteously:

לא השיב למקללים אותו ולא איים לנקום במעניו; הוא הפקיד את עצמו בידי האלוהים ששופט בצדק.

24 who himself has borne our sins in his own body on the wood, in order that we, being made free from sins, may live unto righteousness: by whose stripe you are healed.

המשיח נשא בגופו את חטאינו, כדי שנמות לגבי החטא ונחיה כדי לעשות מעשי צדקה. הכאב והסבל שנשא המשיח ריפאו אותנו!

25 For you have wandered away like sheep; but you have now turned to the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

בעבר טעיתם כצאן ההולכות לאיבוד, אך עתה שבתם אל הרועה הטוב ששומר על נפשותיכם.
