Ruth 4
1 Then went Boaz vp to the gate, and sate there, and beholde, the kinsman, of whome Boaz had spoken, came by: and he sayd, Ho, snch one, come, sit downe here. And he turned, and sate downe.
Booz monta à la porte de la ville et s’y assit. Or voici que celui qui avait droit de rachat et dont Booz avait parlé, vint à passer. Il lui dit: « Arrête-toi, assieds-toi ici, toi un tel. » Cet homme s’arrêta et s’assit.
2 Then he tooke ten men of the Elders of the citie, and sayd, Sit ye downe here. And they sate downe.
Alors Booz prit dix hommes parmi les anciens de la ville, et il dit: « Asseyez-vous ici. » Et ils s’assirent.
3 And he said vnto ye kinsman, Naomi, that is come againe out of ye countrey of Moab, wil sell a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelechs.
Il dit à celui qui avait le droit de rachat: « La portion de champ qui appartenait à notre frère Élimélech, a été vendue par Noémi, qui est revenue des champs de Moab.
4 And I thought to aduertise thee, saying, Buy it before the assistants, and before the Elders of my people. If thou wilt redeeme it, redeeme it: but if thou wilt not redeeme it, tel me: for I know that there is none besides thee to redeeme it, and I am after thee. Then he answered, I wil redeeme it.
Et j’ai dit: je veux t’en informer et te dire: Achète-la en présence de ceux qui siègent ici, et en présence des anciens de mon peuple. Si tu veux racheter, rachète; si tu ne veux pas, déclare-le-moi, afin que je le sache; car il n’y a personne avant toi qui ait le droit de rachat; moi, je viens après toi. » Il répondit: « Je rachèterai. »
5 Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou mnst also buy it of Ruth the Moabitesse the wife of the dead, to stirre vp the name of the dead, vpon his inheritance.
Et Booz dit: « Le jour où tu acquerras le champ de la main de Noémi, tu l’acquerras en même temps de Ruth la Moabite, femme du défunt, pour faire revivre le nom du défunt dans son héritage. »
6 And the kinsman answered, I can not redeeme it, lest I destroy mine owne inheritance: redeeme my right to thee, for I can not redeeme it.
Celui qui avait le droit de rachat répondit: « Je ne puis pas le racheter pour mon compte, de peur de détruire mon propre héritage. Fais usage de mon droit de rachat, car je ne puis racheter. »
7 Now this was the maner beforetime in Israel, concerning redeeming and changing, for to stablish all things: a man did plucke off his shooe, and gaue it his neighbour, and this was a sure witnes in Israel.
C’était autrefois la coutume en Israël, en cas de rachat et d’échange, pour valider toute affaire, que l’homme ôtât son soulier et le donnât à l’autre cela servait de témoignage en Israël.
8 Therefore the kinsman sayd to Boas, Buy it for thee: and he drew off his shooe.
Celui qui avait le droit de rachat dit à Booz: « Acquiers pour ton compte. » Et il ôta son soulier.
9 And Boaz sayd vnto the Elders and vnto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I haue bought all that was Elimelechs, and all that was Chilions and Mahlons, of the hand of Naomi.
Et Booz dit aux anciens et à tout le peuple: « Vous êtes témoins aujourd’hui que j’ai acquis de la main de Noémi tout ce qui appartenait à Elimélech, et tout ce qui appartenait à Cheljon et à Mahalon,
10 And moreouer, Ruth the Moabitesse the wife of Mahlon, haue I bought to be my wife, to stirre vp the name of the dead vpon his inheritance, and that the name of the dead be not put out from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.
et que j’ai acquis en même temps pour femme Ruth la Moabite, femme de Mahalon, pour faire revivre le nom du défunt dans son héritage, afin que le nom du défunt ne soit point retranché d’entre ses frères et de la porte de son lieu. Vous en êtes témoins en ce jour! »
11 And all the people that were in the gate, and the Elders sayd, We are witnesses: the Lord make the wife that commeth into thine house, like Rahel and like Leah, which twaine did build the house of Israel: and that thou mayest doe worthily in Ephrathah, and be famous in Beth-lehem,
Tout le peuple qui était à la porte et les anciens dirent: « Nous en sommes témoins. Que Yahweh rende la femme qui entre dans ta maison semblable à Rachel et à Lia, qui toutes les deux ont bâti la maison d’Israël! Sois fort dans Ephrata, et fais-toi un nom dans Bethléem!
12 And that thine house be like the house of Pharez (whom Thamar bare vnto Iudah) of the seede which the Lord shall giue thee of this yong woman.
Puisse ta maison être semblable à la maison de Pharès, — que Thamar enfanta à Juda, — par la postérité que Yahweh te donnera de cette jeune femme! »
13 So Boaz tooke Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in vnto her, the Lord gaue that she conceiued, and bare a sonne.
Booz prit Ruth, et elle fut sa femme, et il alla vers elle. Yahweh donna à Ruth de concevoir, et elle enfanta un fils.
14 And the women sayd vnto Naomi, Blessed be the Lord, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, and his name shalbe continued in Israel.
Les femmes dirent à Noémi: « Béni soit Yahweh, qui ne t’a point laissé manquer aujourd’hui d’un rédempteur! Que son nom devienne célèbre en Israël!
15 And this shall bring thy life againe, and cherish thine olde age: for thy daughter in lawe which loueth thee, hath borne vnto him, and she is better to thee then seuen sonnes.
Il restaurera ton âme et sera le soutien de ta vieillesse! Car ta belle-fille, qui t’aime, l’a enfanté, elle qui vaut mieux pour toi que sept fils. »
16 And Naomi tooke the childe, and layde it in her lap, and became nource vnto it.
Noémi prit l’enfant, le mit sur son sein, et elle lui servit de nourrice.
17 And the women her neighbours gaue it a name, saying, There is a childe borne to Naomi, and called the name thereof Obed: the same was the father of Ishai, the father of Dauid.
Les voisines lui donnèrent un nom, en disant: « Un fils est né à Noémi! » Et elles l’appelèrent Obed. Ce fut le père d’Isaï, père de David.
18 These now are ye generations of Pharez: Pharez begate Hezron,
Voici la postérité de Pharès: Pharès engendra Esron;
19 And Hezron begate Ram, and Ram begate Amminadab,
Esron engendra Aram; Aram engendra Aminadab;
20 And Amminadab begate Nahshon, and Nahshon begate Salmah,
Aminadab engendra Nahasson; Nahasson engendra Salmon;
21 And Salmon begate Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,
Salmon engendra Booz; Booz engendra Obed;
22 And Obed begate Ishai, and Ishai begate Dauid.
Obed engendra Isaï: Isaï engendra David.
