Ruth 3
1 Afterward Naomi her mother in lawe said vnto her, My daughter, shall not I seeke rest for thee, that thou mayest prosper?
Noémi, sa belle-mère lui dit: « Ma fille, je veux te chercher un lieu de repos où tu sois heureuse.
2 Now also is not Boaz our kinsman, with whose maides thou wast? beholde, he winoweth barly to night in the floore.
Et maintenant, Booz, avec les servantes duquel tu as été, n’est-il pas notre parent? Voici qu’il doit vanner cette nuit l’orge qui est dans l’aire.
3 Wash thy sellfe therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment vpon thee, and get thee downe to the floore: let not the man know of thee, vntill he haue left eating and drinking.
Lave-toi et oins-toi, mets tes plus beaux vêtements, et descends vers l’aire. Ne te laisse pas apercevoir de lui, jusqu’à ce qu’il ait achevé de manger et de boire.
4 And when he shall sleepe, marke the place where he layeth him downe, and go, and vncouer the place of his feete, and lay thee downe, and he shall tell thee what thou shalt doe.
Et quand il ira se coucher, observe le lieu où il se couche; puis entre, soulève la couverture de ses pieds et couche-toi; lui-même te dira ce que tu as à faire. »
5 And she answered her, All that thou biddest me, I will doe.
Elle lui répondit: « Je ferai tout ce que tu me dis. »
6 So she went downe vnto the floore, and did according to all that her mother in lawe bade her.
Elle descendit dans l’aire et fit tout ce que lui avait ordonné sa belle-mère.
7 And when Boaz had eaten, and drunken, and cheared his heart, he went to lie downe at the end of the heape of corne, and she came softly, and vncouered the place of his feet, and lay downe.
Booz mangea et but, et son cœur fut joyeux. Il alla se coucher à l’extrémité du tas de gerbes; alors Ruth s’approcha doucement, découvrit ses pieds et se coucha.
8 And at midnight the man was afraide and caught holde: and loe, a woman lay at his feete.
Au milieu de la nuit, cet homme eut une frayeur; il se pencha et, voici qu’une femme était couchée à ses pieds.
9 Then he sayd, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmayd: spread therefore the wing of thy garment ouer thine handmayd: for thou art the kinsman.
Il dit: « Qui es-tu? ». Elle répondit: « Je suis Ruth, ta servante; étends sur ta servante le pan de ton manteau, car tu as droit de rachat. »
10 Then sayd he, Blessed be thou of the Lord, my daughter: thou hast shewed more goodnes in the latter end, then at the beginning, in as much as thou followedst not yong men, were they poore or rich.
Il dit: « Bénie sois-tu de Yahweh, ma fille! Ton dernier amour surpasse le premier, car tu n’as pas recherché des jeunes gens, pauvres ou riches.
11 And now, my daughter, feare not: I will doe to thee all that thou requirest: for all the citie of my people doeth knowe, that thou art a vertuous woman.
Maintenant, ma fille, ne crains point; tout ce que tu diras, je le ferai pour toi; car tout le peuple de Bethléem sait que tu es une femme vertueuse.
12 And now, it is true that I am thy kinsman, howbeit there is a kinsman neerer then I.
Maintenant. c’est en vérité que j’ai un droit de rachat, mais il y en a un autre plus proche que moi.
13 Tarie to night, and when morning is come, if he will doe the duetie of a kinsman vnto thee, well, let him doe the kinsmans duetie: but if he will not doe the kinsmans part, then wil I doe the duetie of a kinsman, as the Lord liueth: sleepe vntill the morning.
Passe ici la nuit; et demain, s’il veut te racheter, c’est bien, qu’il te rachète; mais s’il ne veut pas te racheter, je te rachèterai, moi. Yahweh est vivant! Reste couchée jusqu’au matin! »
14 And she lay at his feete vntill the morning: and she arose before one could know another: for he sayd, Let no man knowe, that a woman came into the floore.
Elle resta donc couchée à ses pieds jusqu’au matin, et elle se leva avant qu’un homme pût en reconnaître un autre. Booz dit: « Qu’on ne sache pas que cette femme est entrée dans l’aire. »
15 Also he sayd, Bring the sheete that thou hast vpon thee, and holde it. And when she helde it, he measured sixe measures of barly, and layde them on her, and she went into the citie.
Et il ajouta: « Donne le manteau qui est sur toi, et tiens-le. » Elle le tint: et il mesura six mesures d’orge, qu’il chargea sur elle; puis il rentra dans la ville.
16 And when she came to her mother in law, she sayd, Who art thou, my daughter? And she tolde her all that the man had done to her,
Ruth étant revenue auprès de sa belle-mère, Noémi lui dit: « Qu’as-tu fait, ma fille? » Ruth lui raconta tout ce que cet homme avait fait pour elle:
17 And said, These sixe measures of barly gaue he me: for he sayd to me, Thou shalt not come emptie vnto thy mother in lawe.
« Il m’a donné, ajouta-t-elle, ces six mesures d’orge, en me disant: Tu ne retourneras pas les mains vides chez ta belle-mère. »
18 Then sayd she, My daughter, sit still, vntill thou knowe how the thing will fall: for the man wil not be in rest, vntill he hath finished the matter this same day.
Et Noémi dit: « Reste ici, ma fille, jusqu’à ce que tu saches comment finira l’affaire; car cet homme ne se donnera pas de repos qu’il n’ait terminé cette affaire aujourd’hui. »
