Romans 14
1 Him that is weake in the faith, receiue vnto you, but not for controuersies of disputations.
Accueillez avec bonté celui qui est faible dans la foi, sans discuter les opinions.
2 One beleeueth that he may eate of all things: and another, which is weake, eateth herbes.
L'un croit pouvoir manger de tout; l'autre, qui est faible, ne prend que des légumes.
3 Let not him that eateth, despise him that eateth not: and let not him which eateth not, condemne him that eateth: for God hath receiued him.
Que celui qui mange de tout, ne méprise pas celui qui ne mange pas de tout. Et que celui qui ne mange pas, ne juge pas celui qui mange; car Dieu lui a aussi fait accueil.
4 Who art thou that condemnest another mans seruant? hee standeth or falleth to his owne master: yea, he shalbe established: for God is able to make him stand.
Qui es-tu, toi qui juges le serviteur d'autrui? Qu'il demeure ferme, ou qu'il tombe, cela regarde son maître; — mais il sera affermi, car le Seigneur a le pouvoir de l'affermir!
5 This man esteemeth one day aboue another day, and another man counteth euery day alike: let euery man be fully perswaded in his minde.
L'un estime tel jour plus que tel autre; l'autre estime que tous les jours sont égaux: que chacun agisse avec une entière conviction d'esprit.
6 He that obserueth the day, obserueth it to the Lord: and he that obserueth not the day, obserueth it not to the Lord. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord: for he giueth God thankes: and he that eateth not, eateth not to the Lord, and giueth God thankes.
Celui qui observe tel jour, l'observe pour le Seigneur; et celui qui mange, le fait pour le Seigneur; car il rend grâces à Dieu. Et celui qui ne mange pas, le fait aussi pour le Seigneur, et il rend grâces à Dieu.
7 For none of vs liueth to himselfe, neither doeth any die to himselfe.
En effet, aucun de nous ne vit pour lui-même, et aucun de nous ne meurt pour lui-même;
8 For whether wee liue, we liue vnto the Lord: or whether we die, we die vnto the Lord: whether we liue therefore, or die, we are the Lords.
car si nous vivons, nous vivons pour le Seigneur, et si nous mourons, nous mourons pour le Seigneur. Soit donc que nous vivions, soit que nous mourions, nous sommes au Seigneur.
9 For Christ therefore died and rose againe, and reuiued, that he might be Lord both of the dead and the quicke.
Car c'est pour être le Seigneur des morts et des vivants, que Christ est mort et qu'il a repris vie.
10 But why doest thou condemne thy brother? or why doest thou despise thy brother? for we shall all appeare before the iudgement seate of Christ.
Mais toi, pourquoi juges-tu ton frère? Et toi, de ton côté, pourquoi méprises-tu ton frère? Nous comparaîtrons tous devant le tribunal de Dieu;
11 For it is written, I liue, sayth the Lord, and euery knee shall bowe to me, and all tongues shall confesse vnto God.
car il est écrit: «Aussi vrai que je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur, tout genou fléchira devant moi, et toute langue donnera gloire à Dieu»
12 So then euery one of vs shall giue accounts of himselfe to God.
Ainsi, chacun de nous rendra compte à Dieu pour soi-même.
13 Let vs not therefore iudge one another any more: but vse your iudgement rather in this, that no man put an occasion to fall, or a stumbling blocke before his brother.
Ne nous jugeons donc plus les uns les autres. Mais prenez plutôt la résolution de ne pas mettre devant votre frère une pierre d'achoppement, et de ne pas être pour lui une cause de chute.
14 I know, and am perswaded through the Lord Iesus, that there is nothing vncleane of it selfe: but vnto him that iudgeth any thing to be vncleane, to him it is vncleane.
Je sais, et j'ai cette persuasion dans le Seigneur Jésus, que rien n'est impur en soi-même; seulement, si quelqu'un croit qu'une chose est impure, elle l'est pour lui.
15 But if thy brother be grieued for the meate, nowe walkest thou not charitably: destroy not him with thy meate, for whome Christ dyed.
Or si, pour un aliment, tu affliges ton frère, tu ne te conduis plus selon la charité. N'entraîne pas à la perdition, par ton aliment, celui pour lequel Christ est mort.
16 Cause not your commoditie to be euill spoken of.
Que l'avantage dont vous jouissez ne devienne donc pas un sujet de blâme.
17 For the kingdome of God, is not meate nor drinke, but righteousnes, and peace, and ioye in the holy Ghost.
Car le royaume de Dieu ne consiste pas dans le manger et le boire, mais dans la justice, la paix et la joie par le Saint-Esprit.
18 For whosoeuer in these things serueth Christ, is acceptable vnto God, and is approoued of men.
Celui qui sert le Christ de cette manière est agréable à Dieu et approuvé des hommes.
19 Let vs then follow those things which concerne peace, and wherewith one may edifie another.
Recherchons donc ce qui contribue à la paix et à l'édification mutuelle.
20 Destroy not the worke of God for meates sake: all things in deede are pure: but it is euill for the man which eateth with offence.
Ne va pas, pour un aliment, détruire l'oeuvre de Dieu. Toutes choses, il est vrai, sont pures; mais il est mal d'en manger, si l'on devient ainsi pour d'autres une occasion de chute.
21 It is good neither to eate flesh, nor to drinke wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or made weake.
Ce qui est bien, c'est de ne pas manger de viande, de ne pas boire de vin, et de t'abstenir de tout ce qui est une occasion de chute pour ton frère.
22 Hast thou faith? haue it with thy selfe before God: blessed is hee that condemneth not himselfe in that thing which he aloweth.
Tu as une conviction: garde-la pour toi-même devant Dieu. Heureux celui qui ne se condamne pas lui-même dans le plan de conduite qu'il adopte!
23 For he that doubteth, is condemned if he eate, because he eateth not of faith: and whatsoeuer is not of faith, is sinne.
Mais celui qui a des doutes au sujet d'un aliment, est condamné, s'il en mange, parce qu'il ne le fait pas avec foi; or, tout ce qu'on ne fait pas avec foi, est un péché.
