Romans 10
1 Brethren, mine hearts desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saued.
Assurément, mes frères, le désir de mon cœur et mes supplications à Dieu ont pour objet leur salut.
2 For I beare them record, that they haue the zeale of God, but not according to knowledge.
Car je leur rends ce témoignage qu’ils ont du zèle pour Dieu, mais non selon la science,
3 For they, being ignorant of the righteousnes of God, and going about to stablish their owne righteousnes, haue not submitted themselues to the righteousnes of God.
Parce que, ignorant la justice de Dieu, et cherchant à établir la leur, ils ne sont pas soumis à la justice de Dieu.
4 For Christ is the end of the Law for righteousnes vnto euery one that beleeueth.
Car la fin de la loi est le Christ, pour justifier tout croyant.
5 For Moses thus describeth the righteousnes which is of the Lawe, That the man which doeth these things, shall liue thereby.
Aussi Moïse a écrit que l’homme qui accomplira la justice qui vient de la loi y trouvera la vie.
6 But the righteousnes which is of faith, speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heauen? (that is to bring Christ from aboue)
Mais pour la justice qui vient de la foi, il en parle ainsi: Ne dis point en ton cœur: Qui montera au ciel? c’est-à-dire pour en faire descendre le Christ:
7 Or, Who shall descend into the deepe? (that is to bring Christ againe from the dead) (Abyssos g12)
Ou qui descendra dans l’abîme? c’est-à-dire pour rappeler le Christ d’entre les morts. (Abyssos g12)
8 But what sayth it? The worde is neere thee, euen in thy mouth, and in thine heart. This is the worde of faith which we preach.
Mais que dit l’Ecriture? Près de toi est la parole, dans ta bouche et dans ton cœur; c’est la parole de la foi que nous annonçons.
9 For if thou shalt confesse with thy mouth the Lord Iesus, and shalt beleeue in thine heart, that God raised him vp from the dead, thou shalt be saued:
Parce que si tu confesses de bouche le Seigneur Jésus, et si en ton cœur tu crois que Dieu l’a ressuscité d’entre les morts, tu seras sauvé.
10 For with the heart man beleeueth vnto righteousnes, and with the mouth man confesseth to saluation.
Car on croit de cœur pour la justice, et on confesse de bouche pour le salut.
11 For the Scripture saith, Whosoeuer beleeueth in him, shall not be ashamed.
En effet, l’Ecriture dit: Quiconque croit en lui ne sera point confondu.
12 For there is no difference betweene the Iewe and the Grecian: for he that is Lord ouer all, is rich vnto all, that call on him.
Attendu qu’il n’y a point de distinction de Juif et de Grec, parce que c’est le même Seigneur de tous, riche pour tous ceux qui l’invoquent.
13 For whosoeuer shall call vpon the Name of the Lord, shalbe saued.
Car quiconque invoquera le nom du Seigneur sera sauvé.
14 But how shall they call on him, in whome they haue not beleeued? and how shall they beleeue in him, of whom they haue not heard? and howe shall they heare without a preacher?
Mais comment invoqueront-ils celui en qui ils n’ont point cru? Ou comment croiront-ils à celui qu’ils n’ont pas entendu? Et comment entendront-ils, si personne ne les prêche?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, Howe beautifull are the feete of them which bring glad tidings of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
Et comment prêchera-t-on, si on n’est pas envoyé? comme il est écrit: Qu’ils sont beaux les pieds de ceux qui annoncent la paix, qui annoncent le bonheur!
16 But they haue not all obeyed ye Gospel: for Esaias saith, Lord, who hath beleeued our report?
Mais tous n’obéissent pas à l’Evangile. C’est pourquoi Isaïe a dit: Seigneur, qui a cru à ce qu’il a ouï de nous?
17 Then faith is by hearing, and hearing by the worde of God.
La foi donc vient par l’audition, et l’audition par la parole du Christ.
18 But I demaund, Haue they not heard? No doubt their sound went out through all the earth, and their wordes into the endes of the worlde.
Cependant, je le demande: Est-ce qu’ils n’ont pas entendu? Certes, leur voix a retenti par toute la terre, et leurs paroles jusqu’aux extrémités du monde.
19 But I demaund, Did not Israel knowe God? First Moses sayth, I will prouoke you to enuie by a nation that is not my nation, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.
Je demande encore: Est-ce qu’Israël ne l’a point connu? Moïse le premier a dit: Je vous rendrai jaloux d’un peuple qui n’en est pas un; je vous mettrai en colère contre une nation insensée.
20 And Esaias is bolde, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not, and haue bene made manifest to them that asked not after me.
Mais Isaïe ne craint pas de dire: J’ai été trouvé par ceux qui ne me cherchaient pas, je me suis montré à ceux qui ne me demandaient pas.
21 And vnto Israel hee sayth, All the day long haue I stretched foorth mine hand vnto a disobedient, and gainesaying people.
Et à Israël il dit: Tous les jours j’ai tendu les mains à ce peuple incrédule et contredisant.
