Romans 10
1 Brethren, mine hearts desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saued.
Frères, le vœu de mon cœur et ma prière à Dieu pour eux, c’est qu’ils soient sauvés.
2 For I beare them record, that they haue the zeale of God, but not according to knowledge.
Car je leur rends le témoignage qu’ils ont du zèle pour Dieu, mais c’est un zèle mal éclairé.
3 For they, being ignorant of the righteousnes of God, and going about to stablish their owne righteousnes, haue not submitted themselues to the righteousnes of God.
Ne connaissant pas la justice de Dieu, et cherchant à établir leur propre justice, ils ne se sont pas soumis à la justice de Dieu.
4 For Christ is the end of the Law for righteousnes vnto euery one that beleeueth.
C’est qu’en effet la fin de la Loi c’est le Christ, pour la justification de tout homme qui croit.
5 For Moses thus describeth the righteousnes which is of the Lawe, That the man which doeth these things, shall liue thereby.
En effet, Moïse dit de la justice qui vient de la Loi: « L’homme qui mettra ces choses en pratique vivra par elles. »
6 But the righteousnes which is of faith, speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heauen? (that is to bring Christ from aboue)
Mais voici comment parle la justice qui vient de la foi: « Ne dis pas dans ton cœur: Qui montera au Ciel » Ce qui signifie en faire descendre le Christ;
7 Or, Who shall descend into the deepe? (that is to bring Christ againe from the dead) (Abyssos g12)
ou: « Qui descendra dans l’abîme? » Ce qui signifie faire remonter le Christ d’entre les morts. (Abyssos g12)
8 But what sayth it? The worde is neere thee, euen in thy mouth, and in thine heart. This is the worde of faith which we preach.
Que dit-elle donc? « Près de toi est la parole, dans ta bouche et dans ton cœur. » C’est la parole de la foi que nous prêchons.
9 For if thou shalt confesse with thy mouth the Lord Iesus, and shalt beleeue in thine heart, that God raised him vp from the dead, thou shalt be saued:
Si tu confesses de ta bouche Jésus comme Seigneur, et si tu crois dans ton cœur que Dieu l’a ressuscité des morts tu seras sauvé.
10 For with the heart man beleeueth vnto righteousnes, and with the mouth man confesseth to saluation.
Car c’est en croyant de cœur qu’on parvient à la justice, et c’est en confessant de bouche qu’on parvient au salut,
11 For the Scripture saith, Whosoeuer beleeueth in him, shall not be ashamed.
selon ce que dit l’Ecriture: « Quiconque croit en lui ne sera pas confondu. »
12 For there is no difference betweene the Iewe and the Grecian: for he that is Lord ouer all, is rich vnto all, that call on him.
Il n’y a pas de différence entre le Juif et le Gentil, parce que le même Christ est le Seigneur de tous, étant riche envers tous ceux qui l’invoquent.
13 For whosoeuer shall call vpon the Name of the Lord, shalbe saued.
Car « quiconque invoquera le nom du Seigneur sera sauvé. »
14 But how shall they call on him, in whome they haue not beleeued? and how shall they beleeue in him, of whom they haue not heard? and howe shall they heare without a preacher?
Comment donc invoquera-t-on celui en qui on n’a pas encore cru? Et comment croira-t-on en celui dont on n’a pas entendu parler? Et comment en entendra-t-on parler s’il n’y a pas de prédicateur?
15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, Howe beautifull are the feete of them which bring glad tidings of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
Et comment seront-ils prédicateurs, s’ils ne sont pas envoyés? selon qu’il est écrit: « Qu’ils sont beaux les pieds de ceux qui annoncent le bonheur! »
16 But they haue not all obeyed ye Gospel: for Esaias saith, Lord, who hath beleeued our report?
Mais tous n’ont pas obéi à l’Evangile; car Isaïe dit: « Seigneur, qui a cru à notre prédication? »
17 Then faith is by hearing, and hearing by the worde of God.
Ainsi la foi vient de la prédication entendue, et la prédication se fait par la parole de Dieu.
18 But I demaund, Haue they not heard? No doubt their sound went out through all the earth, and their wordes into the endes of the worlde.
Mais je demande: n’ont-ils pas entendu? Au contraire: « Leur voix est allée par toute la terre, et leurs paroles jusqu’aux extrémités du monde. »
19 But I demaund, Did not Israel knowe God? First Moses sayth, I will prouoke you to enuie by a nation that is not my nation, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.
Je demande encore: Israël n’en a-t-il pas eu connaissance? Moïse le premier a dit: « J’exciterai votre jalousie contre une nation qui n’en est pas une; j’exciterai votre colère contre une nation sans intelligence. »
20 And Esaias is bolde, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not, and haue bene made manifest to them that asked not after me.
Et Isaïe pousse la hardiesse jusqu’à dire: « J’ai été trouvé par ceux qui ne me cherchaient pas, je me suis manifesté à ceux qui ne me demandaient pas. »
21 And vnto Israel hee sayth, All the day long haue I stretched foorth mine hand vnto a disobedient, and gainesaying people.
Mais au sujet d’Israël il dit: « J’ai tendu mes mains tout le jour vers un peuple incroyant et rebelle. »
