Psalms 94
1 O Lord God the auenger, O God the auenger, shewe thy selfe clearely.
Dieu des vindictes, Eternel, Dieu des vindictes, apparais!
2 Exalt thy selfe, O Iudge of the worlde, and render a reward to the proude.
Lève-toi, juge de la terre, inflige un juste châtiment aux orgueilleux.
3 Lord how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?
Jusques à quand les impies, ô Eternel, jusques à quand les impies triompheront-ils?
4 They prate and speake fiercely: all the workers of iniquitie vaunt themselues.
Ils se répandent en discours, parlent avec jactance; ils font les fanfarons, tous ces ouvriers d’iniquité.
5 They smite downe thy people, O Lord, and trouble thine heritage.
Ton peuple, Eternel, ils l’écrasent, et ils oppriment ton héritage.
6 They slay the widowe and the stranger, and murder the fatherlesse.
Ils font périr la veuve et l’étranger, ils assassinent les orphelins,
7 Yet they say, The Lord shall not see: neither will the God of Iaakob regard it.
et ils disent: "l’Eternel ne le voit pas, le Dieu de Jacob n’y fait nulle attention!"
8 Vnderstande ye vnwise among the people: and ye fooles, when will ye be wise?
Ah! réfléchissez donc, ô gens stupides! Et vous, insensés, quand serez-vous sains d’esprit?
9 Hee that planted the eare, shall hee not heare? or he that formed the eye, shall he not see?
Celui qui a planté l’oreille n’entendrait pas? celui qui a formé l’œil ne verrait point?
10 Or he that chastiseth the nations, shall he not correct? hee that teacheth man knowledge, shall he not knowe?
Celui qui châtie les peuples ne demanderait aucun compte, lui qui enseigne la science aux hommes?
11 The Lord knoweth the thoughtes of man, that they are vanitie.
L’Eternel connaît les pensées des mortels, il sait qu’elles sont vanité.
12 Blessed is the man, whom thou chastisest, O Lord, and teachest him in thy Lawe,
Heureux l’homme que tu redresses, Eternel, et que tu instruis dans ta loi!
13 That thou mayest giue him rest from the dayes of euill, whiles the pitte is digged for the wicked.
Tu le mets en sûreté contre des jours de malheur, tandis qu’un abîme se creuse sous les pas du méchant.
14 Surely the Lord will not faile his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.
Car le Seigneur ne délaisse pas son peuple, et son héritage, il ne l’abandonne pas.
15 For iudgement shall returne to iustice, and all the vpright in heart shall follow after it.
Mais son jugement se ramène à l’équité: à lui se rattachent tous les cœurs droits.
16 Who will rise vp with me against the wicked? or who will take my part against the workers of iniquitie?
Qui m’assistera pour faire front aux malfaiteurs? Qui m’aidera à tenir tête aux artisans d’iniquité?
17 If the Lord had not holpen me, my soule had almost dwelt in silence.
Si l’Eternel n’était mon appui, peu s’en faut que mon âme ne séjournât dans le pays du silence.
18 When I said, My foote slideth, thy mercy, O Lord, stayed me.
Lorsque je dis: "Mon pied va chanceler", ta grâce, Eternel, vient me soutenir.
19 In the multitude of my thoughts in mine heart, thy comfortes haue reioyced my soule.
Lorsque les soucis se multiplient dans mon sein, ce sont tes consolations qui remettent mon âme en joie.
20 Hath the throne of iniquitie fellowship with thee, which forgeth wrong for a Lawe?
Se peut-il que tu tolères près de toi un trône criminel, qui forge l’iniquité et l’érige en loi?
21 They gather them together against the soule of the righteous, and condemne the innocent blood.
Qu’on s’ameute donc contre la vie du juste, qu’on prononce la condamnation du sang innocent:
22 But the Lord is my refuge, and my God is the rocke of mine hope.
l’Eternel est une forteresse pour moi, mon Dieu, un rocher tutélaire.
23 And hee will recompence them their wickednes, and destroy them in their owne malice: yea, the Lord our God shall destroy them.
Quant à ceux-là, il fait retomber sur eux leur iniquité, il les anéantit pour leur méchanceté; l’Eternel, notre Dieu, les anéantit!
