< Psalms 9 >
1 To him that excelleth vpon Muth Laben. A Psalme of Dauid. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart: I will speake of all thy marueilous workes.
“For the leader of the music; to be sung in the manner or with the voice of maidens. To the Benites, or to Ben. A psalm of David.” I will praise thee, O LORD! with my whole heart; I will show forth all thy marvellous works.
2 I will bee glad, and reioyce in thee: I will sing praise to thy Name, O most High,
I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou Most High!
3 For that mine enemies are turned backe: they shall fall, and perish at thy presence.
All my enemies are turned back; They fall and perish at thy presence.
4 For thou hast maintained my right and my cause: thou art set in the throne, and iudgest right.
For thou dost defend my right and my cause; Thou sittest upon the throne, a righteous judge.
5 Thou hast rebuked the heathen: thou hast destroyed the wicked: thou hast put out their name for euer and euer.
Thou rebukest the nations; Thou destroyest the wicked; Thou blottest out their name for evermore!
6 O enemie, destructions are come to a perpetual end, and thou hast destroyed the cities: their memoriall is perished with them.
The enemy is fallen, —a desolation for ever! Thou, O LORD! hast destroyed their cities; Their memory itself hath perished!
7 But the Lord shall sit for euer: hee hath prepared his throne for iudgement.
The LORD reigneth for ever; He hath prepared his throne for judgment.
8 For he shall iudge the worlde in righteousnes, and shall iudge the people with equitie.
He judgeth the world in righteousness; He administereth judgment to the nations with uprightness.
9 The Lord also wil be a refuge for the poore, a refuge in due time, euen in affliction.
Yea, the LORD is a refuge for the oppressed; A refuge in times of trouble.
10 And they that know thy Name, will trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not failed them that seeke thee.
They who know thy name put their trust in thee; For thou, O LORD! forsakest not them that seek thee!
11 Sing praises to the Lord, which dwelleth in Zion: shewe the people his workes.
Sing praises to the LORD, who reigneth in Zion; Declare his doings among the people!
12 For whe he maketh inquisition for blood, hee remembreth it, and forgetteth not the complaint of the poore.
As the avenger of blood, he remembereth the distressed; He forgetteth not their complaint.
13 Haue mercie vpon mee, O Lord: consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate mee, thou that liftest me vp from the gates of death,
“Have pity upon me, [[said I, ]] O LORD! Look upon my affliction through them that hate me; Lift me up from the gates of death:
14 That I may shewe all thy praises within the gates of the daughter of Zion, and reioyce in thy saluation.
That I may show forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion; That I may rejoice in salvation by thee.”
15 The heathen are sunken downe in the pit that they made: in the nette that they hid, is their foote taken.
The nations have sunk into the pit which they made; In the net, which they hid, is their own foot taken.
16 The Lord is knowen by executing iudgement: the wicked is snared in the worke of his owne handes. (Higgaion, Selah)
Thus it is known that the LORD executeth judgment; The wicked are ensnared in the work of their own hands. [[Stringed instruments. (Pause)
17 The wicked shall turne into hell, and all nations that forget God. (Sheol )
The wicked shall be driven into the underworld; Yea, all the nations that forger God. (Sheol )
18 For the poore shall not bee alway forgotten: the hope of the afflicted shall not perish for euer.
For the poor shall not always be forgotten; The hopes of the afflicted shall not perish for ever.
19 Vp Lord: let not man preuaile: let the heathen be iudged in thy sight.
Arise, O LORD! Let not man prevail; Let the nations be judged by thee!
20 Put them in feare, O Lord, that the heathen may knowe that they are but men. (Selah)
Strike terror into them, O LORD! Let the nations know that they are but men! (Pause)
