< Psalms 64 >

1 To him that excelleth. A Psalme of David. Heare my voyce, O God, in my prayer: preserue my life from feare of the enemie.
`In Ebrewe thus, To the victorie, the salm of Dauid. `In Jerom `thus, To the ouercomer, the song of Dauid. God, here thou my preier, whanne Y biseche; delyuere thou my soule fro the drede of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the conspiracie of the wicked, and from the rage of the workers of iniquitie.
Thou hast defendid me fro the couent of yuele doers; fro the multitude of hem that worchen wickidnesse.
3 Which haue whette their tongue like a sword, and shot for their arrowes bitter wordes.
For thei scharpiden her tungis as a swerd, thei benten a bowe, a bittir thing;
4 To shoote at the vpright in secrete: they shoote at him suddenly, and feare not.
for to schete in priuetees hym that is vnwemmed.
5 They encourage themselues in a wicked purpose: they commune together to lay snares priuilie, and say, Who shall see them?
Sodeynli thei schulen schete hym, and thei schulen not drede; thei maden stidefast to hem silf a wickid word. Thei telden, that thei schulden hide snaris; thei seiden, Who schal se hem?
6 They haue sought out iniquities, and haue accomplished that which they sought out, euen euery one his secret thoughtes, and the depth of his heart.
Thei souyten wickidnessis; thei souyten, and failiden in sekinge. A man neiyhe to deep herte;
7 But God will shoote an arrowe at them suddenly: their strokes shalbe at once.
and God schal be enhaunsid. The arowis of `litle men ben maad the woundis of hem;
8 They shall cause their owne tongue to fall vpon them: and whosoeuer shall see them, shall flee away.
and the tungis of hem ben maad sijk ayens hem. Alle men ben disturblid, that sien hem;
9 And all men shall see it, and declare the worke of God, and they shall vnderstand, what he hath wrought.
and ech man dredde. And thei telden the werkis of God; and vndurstoden the dedis of God.
10 But the righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and trust in him: and all that are vpright of heart, shall reioyce.
The iust man schal be glad in the Lord, and schal hope in hym; and alle men of riytful herte schulen be preisid.
